He’s So Valuable: Shane Battier
1-liner, NBA February 16th. 2009, 9:45amShane Battier: There is a formula to help you fully understand Shane Battier’s dominance, but the Houston Rockets won’t share it with anyone. Battier, you may have forgotten, was a ridiculously accomplished high school player, and won a title at Duke, too. “I remember trying to add some flair to his game,” [his AAU coach] says, “but it was like teaching a classical dancer to do hip-hop. I came to the conclusion he didn’t have the ego for it.” Terrific profile. (New York Times Magazine)

You might want to add either the word “understand” or “comprehend” to this post.

Battier won the Oakland Country dunk contest is sophomore year in high school. It was him and David Bowens (the Jets linebacker) in the finals. Battier’s dunks were weak, but everyone loved the guy, so he won.

That was a great article.. There are very few guys like that in the NBA… Probably several theories as to why…

This is why Daryl Morey is a freakin’ genius.
Rick Adelman is f–king it all up though.

Morey is a genius because he took a chance on a former National Player of the Year and lottery pick?
February 16th, 2009 at 10:51 am
yes, clown.

other National Players of the Year and lottery picks that Morey did *not* gamble on: J.J. Redick, Adam Morrison… and I’ll just pencil in “Tyler Hansbrough” now.

Still say that 2001 title team was the best team ever.
Remember when Coach K could recruit? Man those were the days.
