Thankfully, Tiger’s Back
Golf February 20th. 2009, 1:50pm
Anyone else get the clubs out last night when word of Tiger’s return surfaced? Anyone else take inventory of tees and balls, and locate that golf galaxy gift card you got for Christmas? The first sunny day that tops 55 next month, we’ll be at the range.

Is it just me, or is his wife kind of overrated?
February 20th, 2009 at 1:55 pm
she just popped out a kid like a week before that photo was taken, man.

but maybe you’d kick a swedish nanny out of bed for chewing too loudly, i dont know …

This photo will not be complete until the Woods family purchases a Labrador Retriever.
February 20th, 2009 at 1:56 pm
she’s nothing special as far as judging someone i’ll never meet and can only oogle online.
February 20th, 2009 at 2:01 pm
In person, she is a beautiful woman. Is she the flashy, model type that makes head spin off axis? Nope.
She has no flaws. Looks good in sweats or a formal dress; with make-up or without make-up; with or without clothes. She’s just stunningly fantastic.

This is what America looks like under Barack Obama. Are you dirty liberals happy?

That dog is gonna eat that baby.
February 20th, 2009 at 2:03 pm
I dont know, man. She’s not aging well. Dude could do better.
February 20th, 2009 at 2:04 pm
Swapping the dogs would’ve truly hit that liberal high note.

February 20th, 2009 at 2:13 pm
Fair point about Federer, but his chick is at least a tennis player, and theyre from the same country. Seems like a normal relationship. Tiger married a SWEDISH NANNY/MODEL, who probably has nothing in common with him and an IQ of about 70. If that’s the deal, she needs to be way hotter than she is.
February 20th, 2009 at 2:13 pm
After boarding out west last week, I began to think about golf this Monday. My lunch breaks will be spent at the range when the temp begins to increase.
February 20th, 2009 at 2:13 pm
Why wood Tiger coming back make you want to get your clubs out? Do you have a tee time with him?
February 20th, 2009 at 2:18 pm
So because she’s from the same country, it’s normal? so Tiger Woods and Elin’s relationship isn’t normal because she’s Swedish? This has to be one of the most asinine things ever written by someone on this site.

I’ve been to the driving range twice in the past few weeks. It’s been nice. Spence, you ever think about leaving Ohio for civilization?

February 20th, 2009 at 2:37 pm
was gonna hit the range this afternoon, but 72 is a wee bit chilly for my blood.
February 20th, 2009 at 2:39 pm
Clown, that was just downright rude. I would like… no, demand an apology for that type of insensitive remark.
February 20th, 2009 at 2:42 pm
5 weeks until my golf trip to Florida.
I have a 50° minimum to play golf.

72 would be perfect. It’s the 90+ in the summer that I hate. I can put more layers on in the winter, but I can’t take enough off in the summer to cool down. Plus, I sweat a lot for a fat guy.
February 20th, 2009 at 2:54 pm
Who cares? Did anyone miss him? I mean really… honestly… did anyone miss Tiger Woods?
February 20th, 2009 at 2:56 pm

There is a golf season? Doesn’t everyone play every day????

to be honest…golf was more entertaining without him.
not that anyone watched.

spencer: rolled around your site for the first time today. nice work!
I was in the car earlier and I heard Cowherd say the Buick’s ratings were down 60% w/out Tiger this year, so you’re right, no one has been watching. The other interesting stat is that even having not played in 8 months, he’s still ranked #1 in the world. Pretty telling of his previous domination and no one’s ability to dominate while he was off.
February 20th, 2009 at 3:02 pm
I can say that I miss watching him. I love witnessing greatness. It’s rare to see someone that great just thoroughly dominate everyone…
February 20th, 2009 at 3:03 pm
I didn’t clarify that I mean outside of anything TBL posts or comments.
HEY-OH!
February 20th, 2009 at 3:03 pm
went golfing last weekend. shot 100+
February 20th, 2009 at 3:04 pm
But he only missed the PGA. I’m not a golfhead so I usually don’t watch unless it’s a major, but I kind of liked not having to hear that he’s the greatest golfer of all time every single day. Then again, I guess that would have been better than FavreFavreFavreFavreFavreFavreFavreFavreFavreFavreFavreFavreFavreFavreFavreFavreFavreFavreFavre
February 20th, 2009 at 3:05 pm
jpq…thanks.
the buick’s ratings might have also had to do with the fact that the golf played that afternoon, aside from nick watney, was some of the most disgusting golf played so far this season. it was terrible to watch.
i wouldn’t go that far…people love to bash sergio, but what he did last season was remarkable. starting off outside the top 10 and ending the season ranked no. 2 WITH A SHOT TO GET NO. 1 (if he wins and tiger loses in the first round) is simply amazing, and the reason that golf nuts were going apeshit after the end of his season.
but yea…he got that lead in the first place and it’s incredible. he’s the best.
February 20th, 2009 at 3:06 pm
Otter…he missed the british too and the FedEx Cup and Ryder Cup…that’s a lot to miss.
and even tho he wasn’t there, 50% of the fucking coverage was still about him…i hated that.

Really amazing about Sergio, especially since he SUCKS.
/Cal Ripken revenge
February 20th, 2009 at 3:14 pm
i wish i was as bad as sergio then…
name another under-30 player with as many top 10’s in majors, a players win, and over 10 european victories. here’s a hint…there isn’t one. all sergio’s criticism comes from the fact that he’s SO talented people expected a lot more. this just in…GOLFERS UNDER 30 RARELY WIN MAJORS.
just because tiger did it doesn’t mean every kid will.

spencer: you need to get that Sergio man-crush checked out. it could be fatal. I heard he spent the entire winter season working on his excuses
February 20th, 2009 at 3:18 pm
if man-crushing sergio is wrong, i don’t wanna be right.
at least he’s contended this year despite a (surprise) balky putter and not fallen to shit like anthony kim.

Admission time: For 29, he is very good, and doesn’t suck…
But, last year, on the PGA Tour, he won 1 time, finished 2nd 3 times. He was in the Top 10 6 times total out of 19 tournaments, meaning he was only in contention 30% of the time.
I fully admit to not knowing how the ranking system works, but it makes no sense that he should have rocketed up to #2 for a nice, not spectacular, season.
He does have the waggles cured, so he’s got that going for him. His putting looks to be average, which is up from horrific. IF there was no Tiger, he would be “The Guy That Everyone Watches”. As is, he is one of the Top 10 players in the world and has a load of potential.
However, his window for hitting that potential shrinks every year. His game has not progressed over the past 5 years as it should have to become an all time great…
February 20th, 2009 at 3:31 pm

spencer: I know it’s Friday afternoon, but are already doing the “Phelps”?
Sergio hasn’t even played a PGA event this year (as far as I know), and Kim has only played TWO EVENTS and came in 2nd in one of them (The Mercedes, w/ a decent field) and made 500 large for the effort. Wish I could fall in shit like that.
February 20th, 2009 at 3:31 pm
If putting were not required in golf, Sergio would have won half a dozen majors by now. Unfortunately for him, it will always be an important part of the game.
I realize his stats improved last year, but I have a difficult time believing he can hold his putting stroke together for 4 days on major course greens. Obviously, his best chance is the British, but he choked that away 2 years ago to Harrington.
February 20th, 2009 at 3:34 pm

I have a better analogy for you: if passing were not required in football, then Michael Vick, Vince Young and Terrelle Pryor (a Buckeye reference for ‘ya) would be good quarterbacks.
February 20th, 2009 at 3:38 pm
it’s weighted…meaning his 2nd in the 2007 Open and 2008 PGA go a long way, just like his players win went a long way. plus he finished incredibly strong, and internationally had a ton of success late in the season.
his window for potential is shrinking? a golfer’s prime is 32-36…he’s 29. phil didn’t win on until he was 34 or 35. ben hogan didn’t win one until his mid 30’s either and was considered to have an equally balky putter as sergio relatively speaking and he did just fine.
his game HAS progressed. he’s an infintely more consistent ball striker than he was at the beginning of his career, tho the putting thing is beginning to freak me out a bit.
missing the cut at the FBR? taking 39 putts in malaysia and blowing in Perth, Australia all while skipping out on PGA events he SHOULD be at? the second at the benz was nice, but his round was a house of cards, he could’ve easily shot a 75 that day.
February 20th, 2009 at 3:40 pm
fixed for accuracy.
February 20th, 2009 at 3:46 pm
Kim was a party boy for years, and finally got his act together. maybe he’s meeting up w/ John Daly??
Anyway, this early in the year, only Johnny Miller ever made a career out of the first 2 months of the season. I used to watch and think he won every other tournament in CA & AZ.
We’ll know by June 1st who’s for real the rest of the year. You’ll have the Florida swing, then the Masters, then the TPC, Texas, and the Memorial.
February 20th, 2009 at 3:48 pm
phil too…at least 20 wins of his came in cali or ‘zona.
florida swing is going to be a zoo…tiger, AK, sergio, phil and veej (and i guess that queer, camillo) along with ryo ishikawa and rory mcillroy is gonna make for a fuckton of media.
February 20th, 2009 at 3:49 pm
spencer: I didn’t know after a few games, Pryor already made the show? I purposely left out the word “NFL” to include Pryor, so let’s see how he is in a couple of years before we all get him shoved down our throats like the other two busts
February 20th, 2009 at 3:50 pm
Went to the range last week. Hit ok, but it was off a mat so who the hell knows. Spring can’t come soon enough.

They used to play the Honda a mile from my house (one of it’s 10 locations in the last 12 years-lol). I may hit Doral this year (haven’t gone in a couple of years), or even Honda. Nicklaus is running it at PGA National, which is a nice track.
February 20th, 2009 at 3:54 pm
PGA National is a fucking torture chamber, especially if jack inputs his opinion. last year, the rough at memorial was reportedly 7 inches high and the greens were rolling at 12 on the stimp. that’s rough.
and i only included that “NFL” thing because of the other two…tho if pryor ever gets turned into a qb at the next level, i fully expect him to suck too.
February 20th, 2009 at 4:00 pm

He did two years ago (his first year running it), and, predictably, they bitched. But they also said it was fair, and the “ambiance” (perks, accomodations, etc) were stepped up, so now everyone is OK w/ it. Funny how a Mercedes courtesy car and a free suite at PGA National for your family somehow makes a guy not care about the rough as much.
February 20th, 2009 at 4:04 pm
so basically, they said they weren’t happy with it, but they were happy with it? and they really don’t even care because they got some nice toys?
sounds about right for a PGA pro…
/spoiled bitches…if i were commish the only course we’d play is oakmont
//shakes fist
February 20th, 2009 at 4:13 pm
Oakmont?? They would form a strike. They need a -25 at the bum fuck Open every now and then for their egos.
and they really don’t even care because they got some nice toys?
you know how it works: ALL pro athletes become so oblivious to the real world that the most minor inconvenience/disruption to their life is looked at like a major travesty. I have met, drank with, partied with, played golf with (PGA, NHL, NFL) many athletes over my years and I can honestly say that, as a general rule, hockey players are the most down to earth, coolest people of all of them. For the most part, the rest of them are kinda douchy.
February 20th, 2009 at 4:17 pm
like greg norman and fred couples flipping out because they had to play a pro-am (you know…gratitude towards the guys lining your pockets) and so they sulked through the whole event and got pissed if they were talked to? yep…that’s the way it works.
