Hayden Panettierre as Beth Cooper is a solid casting choice. Decent enough airplane read, but I doubt Hayden gives the kid a handie in the movie. That’d be Hathaway in Havoc surprising.

You need a realtor to tell you that you can’t afford a $1.5MM home while making $20k per year?

Steve Sarkisian should have to pay for that hot dog vendor’s condo.

Didn’t watch a second of the Oscars, but surprised Penelope Cruz won for “Vicky Cristina Barcelona.” She was only in the movie for about 45 minutes and she wasn’t very good, except for the 10 seconds she was making out with Scarlett, that was ok.

It wasn’t the realtor. Realtors don’t make financial decisions. They don’t ask/don’t want to know how you get the money. That part of the puzzle is the lender, in this case it was Chase.
It’s a two-fold problem… 1. Chase should have NEVER approved the loan, which is why banks are in deep shit. Chase, and every other bank, lent too much money to too many people that couldn’t afford it. There were no short term repercussions. 2. Mr. Limo Driving Hot Dog Server HAS to know that paying that mortgage is impossible. I hate the “America! Land of Dreams!” speeches that come from people who make a bad decision and are screwed because of it. THIS was a bad decision.
The least responsible person in this decision is the realtor, whose job is to find a home for the client, based on what they are qualified for. Realtors are sales folks, not financial wizards. The decision on how much to spend is on the customer (and their lender).

Cruz was great in Vicky Christina Barcelona, but she was even better in Volver a couple years back. Judi Dench won Best Supporting Actress for Shakespeare in Love for about six minutes of screentime and even Viola Davis’s nominated performance this year was for just two scenes.
Jon Gruden just said his favorite sports movie of all time is The Longest Yard. “Adam Sandler, good lineup…”
I think Chucky needs to get out of the film room once in a while. Oy.

At least the hot dog vendor has a hot, big-titted wife to console him.

realtor steered the people toward chase. realtor should have checked to see if the family qualified (they didn’t). blame is to be shared here, but the realtor gets some of that. what is 3% of $1.5 million? That’s the cut the realtor took from that deal.

Sounds like a reasonable excuse.
So … Harrison to the Eagles?
February 23rd, 2009 at 9:11 am
That’s the rumor. He gets seven million from the Colts this year whether he plays or not, so anything on top of that he can get from the Eagles is gravy for him. He wouldn’t be a bad fit in their offense as a third option. Still feels weird to say that.

Amen to that, brother. Life can’t be too bad with access to a rack like that.

Chase has the skin in the game on that loan, though. The realtor does not. Back when banks made loans based on common sense, Chase would have said NO CHANCE on that loan and told the realtor to guide the couple towards a starter home. In today’s bizarro finance world, where compensation is based solely on the short term, the mortgage broker got the loan pushed through and made his massive compensation (and thusly got the realtor paid as well). The real breakdown from the bank’s perspective came when the underwriters got in bed with the origination side of banks. The UW’s are supposed to be the credit check to make sure that the bank isn’t making a bad loan. That stopped happening in most banks about 7-8 years ago when the money got to be too great.
Sure, the realtor should feel some guilt about the process, but it isn’t their job to ask where they got the money to qualify… I don’t particularly care for realtors, but they are worthless in a situation like this if the bank does their job and turns down the loan.

I think to pay off the $75K, most of the men in Seattle will have access to that rack at the local “dancing emporium”.
Has any individual ever accepted responsibility for being an idiot and making a mistake? This guy should go back to selling hot dogs and realize that doesn’t qualify for a $1.5 million “American Dream”

Not in the past eight years, no.

That’s Oscar-worthy material!

Nationalizing the banks is completely unnecessary. Just revoke the fair value accounting rules for banks that was implemented with Sarbanes-Oxley.
