Still No Takers For Pudge Rodriguez
Baseball March 8th. 2009, 5:05pm
Opening day is less than a month away and 14-time All-Star catcher Pudge Rodriguez is still without a major league club.
In the World Baseball Classic yesterday, he homered twice, doubled, singled and drove in four runs in Puerto Rico’s 7-0 win over Panama. Sadly, that performance matches his entire home run output during his pathetic 33-game tenure with the Yanks last year.
We know Pudge isn’t been the same player he once was. He’s 37 years old now, and ever since he magically shrunk following the 2004 season, his output has dwindled significantly.
But still, nobody wants this guy? Not even the Mets? Sure, he looks like a lesbian, but then again he does wear a mask.
It doesn’t matter that his agent is Scott Boras, Pudge had zero leverage six months ago. At this point he’d be happy just to know he’s playing baseball beyond the WBC.
Pudge’s stock rises with win over Panama (NY Post)

He beat up on a pitching staff whose marquee players are Bruce Chen and Ramiro Mendoza. At least he has proven that he can play in Double-A.
Speaking of Panama, how is this guy on their roster?

Pedro was lights out yesterday, too. Granted, it was against a bunch of craptastic kids from the Netherlands, but those craptastic kids did win the game.
Pedro would look good in the middle of the Baltimore rotation, or at the end of the Milwaukee rotation, or, dare I say it … throwing 5 and a third innings every day for the Mets …

The Mets have Ramon Castro/Brian Schneider platoon at catcher and Dan Murphy/Fernando Tatis in left. Thats a winning combination.

I thought Bruce Chen was Swedish.

Jay: He’s not I dont think.

He was on the worldbaseballclassic.com roster

He didn’t have a number by him, so I’m assuming he had to pull out. I don’t know how he was eligible though. The WBC rules are so lax, I’m probably eligible to play for South Africa somehow.

What the fuck is Davey Johnson doing? There’s no way he should be managing this team.
March 8th, 2009 at 7:25 pm
Davey left Jeter out of the starting lineup, though. so far, so good.

i’m surprised you guys are into the WBC. haven’t seen a minute … what’s interesting about it?

I just like baseball, mainly. It might not be great as it is the start of the season, but it’s potentially good baseball in March, so it’s better than a lot else on.

Yesterday’s game was pretty cool. Guys were fired up and it was awesome to see the SkyDome come to life again.

When two good teams are involved it is like watching an All Star game that is actually competitive
March 8th, 2009 at 8:20 pm
Bill Hendrickson certainly has his work cut out for him here.
March 8th, 2009 at 8:25 pm
Bill’s pretty good in the big spot though.
March 8th, 2009 at 8:37 pm
But lest we forget, Bill’s on PED’s.

Jesus H, Tuco is the last man on Earth I would ever want to piss off..
This show has the most macabre sense of humor I’ve ever seen. Getting rid of dead bodies seems to be a running theme. AMC, the new HBO.

Davidson loses! TBL is crying because they are out. Not getting to the finals of their conference tourney..not good.
March 8th, 2009 at 9:35 pm
Curry is probably coming back now I would say.
March 8th, 2009 at 10:58 pm
I predicted on here CoC would take them out in the SoCon tourney at the beginning of the year, I am so happy about this. They do not deserve a bid.
March 8th, 2009 at 11:10 pm
Should probably explain the dislike for Davidson. During my four years at App I had to watch Davidson destroy them in basketball twice a year, it sucked. I always pull for the SoCon team in the tourney, but damned if I’m not pulling against Davidson during the regular season.
Though at least I did get to see Kevin Martin playing for Western, fuck Western, and there ain’t no way in hell Curry is replicating his success in the NBA.
