Gus Johnson can even make a first round Minnesota-Northwestern game seem exciting
March 12th, 2009 at 1:52 pm
John Daly might pull off the huge upset.
March 12th, 2009 at 1:53 pm
best golfer, most fierce competitor ever vs. biggest waste of talent ever…
AND IT’S TIED?1?!?!?!
faith in humanity is disappearing.
March 12th, 2009 at 1:53 pm
Gus is the runaway best thing about the abysmal big ten this season.
March 12th, 2009 at 1:54 pm
looks like northwestern isn’t going to be able to hang on
March 12th, 2009 at 1:55 pm

March 12th, 2009 at 1:58 pm
How can there be hockey in a culture bracket?
March 12th, 2009 at 1:59 pm
KU is getting booty spanked.
March 12th, 2009 at 1:59 pm
So which teams from the Big 10 are for sure getting in? Michigan State, Illinois and Purdue? Or is Ohio State an automatic bid team too?
March 12th, 2009 at 2:01 pm
SG - all of them. every team in that league is getting an invite. the corpse of ND and Georgetown weep for march.
kansas white guy bangs a triple from the corner, KU 54, Baylor 51
March 12th, 2009 at 2:02 pm
As much as I like the Morris twins, they shouldn’t be on the floor at the same time. Especially when Tyrel Reed is with them.
March 12th, 2009 at 2:03 pm
Are you being serious? I have the hangover from hell and can’t handle sarcasm right now.
March 12th, 2009 at 2:03 pm
nice.
March 12th, 2009 at 2:03 pm
racist.
March 12th, 2009 at 2:04 pm
admitted bball geek here - i just rewound that Kansas 3 to turn on surround sound. the sound of the ball clanging in the rim and the eruption of the crowd … love it.
the proximity of the crowd to the court i think makes these moments the best (and loudest) in all of sports.
i wish i had the chalmers 3 on my TV
March 12th, 2009 at 2:04 pm
Someone has to spell Aldrich, but yeah, the front court play goes south in a hurry. They were getting beat up.
That white guy is Fetch’s favorite player.
March 12th, 2009 at 2:05 pm

March 12th, 2009 at 2:06 pm
wednesday night boozing because lost wasn’t on?
MSU, Purdue, Illinois, Minnesota, Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State, Wisky
a michigan loss today could knock them out; ditto PSU
March 12th, 2009 at 2:07 pm
TBL -
I have a copy of last year’s Final 4. Want it? Some guy tivoed it and erased the commercials. Most excellent.
March 12th, 2009 at 2:07 pm
VT wins by 18 … if VT can beat UNC, it’ll steal a Big 10 bid.
Maryland gets two wins and it enters the conversation
i’m also pulling for UF and kentucky HARD
March 12th, 2009 at 2:08 pm
Watch Kelly for Iowa if you want to see a good white player.
March 12th, 2009 at 2:12 pm
KU is getting abused down low.
March 12th, 2009 at 2:12 pm
PSU would definitely be out with a loss to Indiana, but, that shouldn’t happen. I’m not entirely convinced that they are in unless they get a win over Purdue.
ESPN just compared Providence and PSU. Both are 10-8 in Conference with weak overall schedules and the thought seems to be Providence is out since they lost to Louisville…the same should probably follow for PSU. But, I don’t think PSU would have gone 10-8 against Providence’s conference schedule.
March 12th, 2009 at 2:13 pm
I think the Cleveland State win already knocked Michigan out.
March 12th, 2009 at 2:14 pm
PSU would have gone 12-6? Look at who Providence has played, the only 2 legit wins are Pitt and Syracuse. Those are the ONLY wins over teams going to the tourney.
March 12th, 2009 at 2:14 pm
all of a sudden KU not looking good at all. down 4,
433 left
March 12th, 2009 at 2:14 pm
i can’t believe im saying this but…
how does michigan get knocked out if they have a better resume than ohio state, who’s considered in?
/god fucking damnit
March 12th, 2009 at 2:16 pm
dunn hits like his 9th three, KU down 7!!!!!
March 12th, 2009 at 2:16 pm
Well that’s the game. I guess KU could use the days off.
March 12th, 2009 at 2:19 pm
Collins = Money.
March 12th, 2009 at 2:19 pm
I’m not at all impressed with Kansas. I doubt I’ll have them going past the Sweet 16 in my bracket.
TBL, I went to the Blackhawks game last night. I had, like, 10 beers too many.
March 12th, 2009 at 2:21 pm
yeah I’m not impressed with a team that lost 5 starters and won their conference either.
March 12th, 2009 at 2:22 pm
Sweet 16 is about right. Hard to imagine them getting by a 1 or 2 seed in a game not played at Allen Fieldhouse.
March 12th, 2009 at 2:23 pm
I’m not going to go through it game by game, but I think Providence is a better team than PSU is. PSU has one impressive win, Michigan State. Granted, if Providence had beat ND or G’Town this would be a lot easier of a case. I just don’t think PSU stacks up well to the Big East. Cincy would probably be a good comparison in terms of how good I think they are.
March 12th, 2009 at 2:23 pm
nice baylor cheerleaders
nicer BU block on the collins layup attempt
March 12th, 2009 at 2:24 pm
KC- I think if their one is a team with just one big guy and maybe a suspect PG they could do it. A team with good wings though will kill them.
March 12th, 2009 at 2:25 pm
Why is Aldrich on the bench?
March 12th, 2009 at 2:25 pm
collins just had a bad game. nothing would fall. had the looks, didn’t fall. he’s probably like 5-15 or something
still, KU has a chance
March 12th, 2009 at 2:26 pm
How are you guys watching this game. Do you guys fucking work!? I guess a recession has its perks.
/Fuck work, its holding me back from going to the LSU game tomorrow.
March 12th, 2009 at 2:26 pm
airball?????
March 12th, 2009 at 2:27 pm
Collins = Zimbabwee currency.
March 12th, 2009 at 2:27 pm
Penn State and Michigan win, the Big 10 is sending 8. Stop trying to argue it.
except for when they also beat Purdue, and went into Champaign and knocked off Illinois.
March 12th, 2009 at 2:27 pm
Resume includes head to head… OSU 2, scUM 0. Michigan, while beating Duke and UCLA, also lost to some really bad teams.
Tough for the committee to decide which is better. Steady and consistent, beating all the teams that you should… or Inconsistently good and bad, beating the best and losing to the sisters of the poor.
I think OSU and Wisconsin are in no matter unless the loser lays a complete egg tomorrow and loses by 25-30. scUM and Penn State need to win today and not get blown out tomorrow.
Cleveland State did some damage. A non-invitee winning one of the weekend tournaments could throw things as well. It looks like there are about 10-15 teams playing for about 6-7 spots. Those teams are virtually interchangeable depending on what you deem to be more important (record, conference record, SOS, who you beat, who you lost to, Top 50 record, last 10 games, head to head with other bubbles, etc…).
March 12th, 2009 at 2:27 pm
Well PSU did beat Illinois twice, Purdue, Minnesota, and Michigan. You may think the B10 is bad, but look at the non-conference wins all those teams had.
March 12th, 2009 at 2:27 pm
1. Waaaah. You lost 5 starters. Fucking cry about it.
2. You only won your conference because the best player in the country had to sit out due to a concussion.
March 12th, 2009 at 2:31 pm
hope baylor wins the b12 tourney
March 12th, 2009 at 2:32 pm
penn state’s non-conference wins, please.
March 12th, 2009 at 2:35 pm
So does Fetch have a pulse?
March 12th, 2009 at 2:35 pm
TBL-yep, their non-conference was pretty shitty, but you can’t fault them for knocking off the big dawgs in the Big 10.
March 12th, 2009 at 2:36 pm
Would have no problem if Cleveland St took Ohio Sts bid. Not that they will. But Lighty’s injury ended any chance Ohio St had at making a deep run.
Erin Andrews and Charissa Thompson in the same building….
March 12th, 2009 at 2:37 pm
Oh good, I get to see the Hawkeyes lose! This will be fun.
March 12th, 2009 at 2:37 pm
TBL: Best one was against Ga Tech.
KU plays to their competition all the time. I hope they play the best 14 seed in history in the first round.
Sportsgal it’s cute when you *try* to talk sports. Please continue.
March 12th, 2009 at 2:38 pm
Baylor and OkSU were the only teams I didn’t want to see KU play this weekend because of what just happened. Other team gets hot from behind the arc and the KU perimeter defense isn’t good enough to prevent that.
March 12th, 2009 at 2:39 pm
which means they really aren’t that good.
March 12th, 2009 at 2:39 pm
I don’t think too highly of Illinois or Purdue with Hummel out. They certainly were better than average wins, just not sure I’d go with the label of impressive. And really, to put the win at Champaign into a positive column would be silly as that game was terribly played all around, someone had to win it.
Ohio State beat ND, lost to WVU. Wisconsin lost to UCONN and Marquette. Minnesota beat Louisville. Michigan lost to UConn. Northwestern beat DePaul. Iowa lost to WVU.
That’s just a quick glance at it so I certainly could have missed something and I assume if Indiana played a Big East team that they lost and did not check. Minnesota beating Louisville was an impressive win for them. I’d also think that it would be silly to say that that win, or any of these games for that matter, really give any indication of strength of conference.
Michigan State got dominated by UNC, it certainly isn’t indicative of what team MSU has become. Cherry picking non-conference games would just seem to gloss over the entire body of work.
March 12th, 2009 at 2:40 pm
Of course Penn Sts non-conference is bad, thats the whole reason they are on the bubble.
March 12th, 2009 at 2:41 pm
Oh yeah they’re not Sparty. I was just hoping they’d make the tourney this year. I don’t think anyone saw this coming.
March 12th, 2009 at 2:44 pm
Joboo-i agree that cherry picking non-conference games are week, especially those that took place in late november early december. that is what makes Penn State’s wins in conference against MSU, Purdue, and Illinois more impressive.
MSU’s double digit win over Kansas took place in January, and I think that along with their “road” game against Texas was more indicative as to what a completely healthy Michigan State team can do.
March 12th, 2009 at 2:45 pm
WHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
March 12th, 2009 at 2:46 pm
Fetch, I kid. They are a good team, but the youth and inexperience got them.
March 12th, 2009 at 2:50 pm
PSUs win over MSU was a big deal, not really trying to downplay it, but it’s on the same level as the Providence win over Pitt. I really don’t see the Purdue win as all that big of a deal. Purdue with Hummel is a solid team, but that was one of their first conference games, on the road, without Hummel. A bubble team really should beat Purdue under those circumstances.
The first Illinois game counts for nothing, I’ll stick with that. It was just an awful game and should be written off. The second one was good and maybe I am downplaying it a bit, but, to have that win and follow it up with the performance against Iowa kind of stings a bit.
March 12th, 2009 at 2:54 pm
the committee won’t. they will see it as a conference road win, at one of the tougher venues to win at.
March 12th, 2009 at 2:55 pm
I’m sure Jon Lester really appreciated Papelbon’s comment.
