what if the eternal answer is neither?
March 13th, 2009 at 4:29 pm
two shitty games producing potentially-good finishes:
FSU 61, GT 60 70 seconds left
the Big 10 game is a 1-pointer, too (Wisky 55, OSU 54 i think)
March 13th, 2009 at 4:32 pm
what a bad turnover by FSU, and GT will have another chance to take the lead, 47 seconds left
March 13th, 2009 at 4:32 pm
I just got back from work, turn on the tv, and bam, GaTech’s up
March 13th, 2009 at 4:33 pm
peacock turnaround j and GT leads! 62-61 with 26 seconds left!
March 13th, 2009 at 4:33 pm
Landry hits one FT, tied at 55, 82 seconds left. OSU could use this
March 13th, 2009 at 4:34 pm
I think a 2-15 upset would make my week.
March 13th, 2009 at 4:35 pm
great move by turner, scores in the lane, 57-55
March 13th, 2009 at 4:36 pm
then landry missed a 3, and turner collected the rebound
FSU has 9 seconds left and hte ball, down 1. douglass time …
March 13th, 2009 at 4:36 pm
Matt Sanchez? Im confused.
March 13th, 2009 at 4:36 pm
Douglas hurt…still thinks he hits it here.
March 13th, 2009 at 4:36 pm
wow, some guy on FSU hits a reverse layup and the foul, 7.7 seconds left.
March 13th, 2009 at 4:36 pm
horrible defense right there…horrible…FSU leads by 1 with a FT on the way.
March 13th, 2009 at 4:38 pm
I’m pulling for Usain Bolt. Also, I’d like to choose neither hockey or soccer…but I’ll go with hockey because I’m less indifferent toward it and it’s actually entertaining to watch in person.
March 13th, 2009 at 4:38 pm
shumpert (freshman on my fantasy team) missed the shot for the tie in the lane
FSU survives
March 13th, 2009 at 4:38 pm
game over, FSU moves on.
If you’re looking for a first round upset…FSU is going to be overseeded
March 13th, 2009 at 4:38 pm
I hope Usain Bolt’s away with the upset.
(I miss reading CPSL’s puns over at Deadspin)
March 13th, 2009 at 4:39 pm
choking dogs wisconsin about to lose. OSU going to the line, up 3, 17 seconds.
two shots for OSU, i think they’ve got it
March 13th, 2009 at 4:40 pm
Wisco’s out now, right?
March 13th, 2009 at 4:41 pm
Wow, I’ll be shocked if Bolt pulls off this upset.
March 13th, 2009 at 4:42 pm
Matt Sanchez must be the left handed
March 13th, 2009 at 4:45 pm
I can’t believe soccer is winner. Tiddleywinks should beat soccer.
March 13th, 2009 at 4:47 pm
Dirty Sanchez>Mark Sanchez>Matt Sanchez
March 13th, 2009 at 4:48 pm
If you’re looking for a darkhouse, FSU is it.

I’m pretty aghast at those results, to be honest. Some EPL blog commenters must have made their way over.
March 13th, 2009 at 4:49 pm
Soccer’s winning because there are a bunch of idiots on this site that love to mock hockey even though it’s far superior to the NBA.
March 13th, 2009 at 4:50 pm
I can’t believe soccer is winner. Tiddleywinks should beat soccer.
Soccer gets 3 posts/day on this site. Hockey gets one/month
Look at the post count on the sidebar
Soccer: 405 posts
Hockey: 57
not a fair fight

March 13th, 2009 at 4:52 pm
Calm down.
March 13th, 2009 at 4:53 pm
NickP must be using a alot of different browsers to put LBJ over Oak high and Usain Bolt over the best player in the NBA.
March 13th, 2009 at 4:53 pm
I just hope it’s not because people actually like soccer. That would be quite sad.
March 13th, 2009 at 4:53 pm
Of course Usain is gonna win – he had the most impressive performance of the Olympics.
March 13th, 2009 at 4:55 pm
He runs track…just like Michael Phelps and swimming, its irrelevant.
The redeemed team clearly had the better performance.
March 13th, 2009 at 4:56 pm
Yep, god forbid people have differing tastes.
March 13th, 2009 at 4:57 pm
soccer vs. NHL is a 97-97 tie right now. That sucks for hockey. Watching grass grow would kill soccer in most polls.
March 13th, 2009 at 4:58 pm
/ Wants to throw another hat into the ring
// Suggests NASCAR
/// Used to love hockey when I could watch it on basic cable
March 13th, 2009 at 5:00 pm
Analogy: Pedofiles have “tastes” that differ from most people – does that make it OK? Same reasoning applies to soccer.
March 13th, 2009 at 5:00 pm
can we wait until bolt is retired and doesnt ever get caught taking PEDs? because to compare bolt to kobe bryant on the athletic resume’ side, bolt’s resume’ is nowhere near kobe’s.
March 13th, 2009 at 5:00 pm
Torry Holt got cut.
March 13th, 2009 at 5:01 pm
Torry Holt got cut.
is he bleeding?

March 13th, 2009 at 5:04 pm
I went to a minor league hockey game for the first time this year, damn that was a lot of fun. This matchup shouldn’t be close. There is no good qualities about soccer what so ever.
March 13th, 2009 at 5:04 pm
100% agreed Sportsgal… Let’s fall over backwards for guys who don’t have to jump to dunk… yea, that’s pretty difficult. Only sport in history where the players have outgrown the court. Even The Wizard of Westwood suggests raising the rims in the preseason.. just to se what would happen.
Cycling/MMA/Indycar(so basically Versus network)>>>>>>>>NBA
March 13th, 2009 at 5:05 pm
The WAGs would like a word with you, in the back office
/ Puts on Barry White record
March 13th, 2009 at 5:06 pm
NBA with taller rims = WNBA
March 13th, 2009 at 5:06 pm
i picked hockey because mostly white people play it.
/racist’d
March 13th, 2009 at 5:07 pm
Yes, that’s totally a reasonable analogy…comparing the world’s most popular sport to pedophilia.
Oh wait, it’s not; it just makes you sound like an ignorant redneck.
March 13th, 2009 at 5:07 pm
Soccer is #1 youth sport in America
/fact
March 13th, 2009 at 5:09 pm
No – it makes it seem as if you’re defending pedophilia. Hope you’re not a babysitter.
March 13th, 2009 at 5:09 pm
SM, it’s only a fact because the kids just wasn’t good enough to play actual sports.
Are people voting for Bolt to prevent the Lebron vs. Kobe debate part 12,323,032,843,221.1?
March 13th, 2009 at 5:10 pm
without question the most overrated play in sports: a dunk in basketball. friggin yawn.
i remember seeing 6-2 farm boys dunk in high school so a 6-7 man in the nba slamming it in doesn’t do anything for me.
i’m hearing on raadio that the nba is going to relax the already insulting “traveling rule.”
i’m irritated that i can’t watch enough college hoops (or even high school hoops) due to work responsibilities. but if the nba was being played across the street from where i work or live i wouldn’t walk over if admission was a nickel.
March 13th, 2009 at 5:11 pm
i’m irritated that i can’t watch enough college hoops (or even high
f’n racist
March 13th, 2009 at 5:11 pm
Because worried moms won’t let their kids play football.
March 13th, 2009 at 5:12 pm
i will admit nba players may be the best athletes of all sports but that tripe some call basketball played on the pro level still insults me.
March 13th, 2009 at 5:14 pm
I’d argue with you, but simply reading your “arguments” is draining my IQ. I guess that’s to be expected from someone in flyover country.
March 13th, 2009 at 5:15 pm
i love soccer people; hate how soccer people try to act as if one doesn’t like the sport one is a lesser human being.
i don’t hate nor like soccer. sadly, soocer attitudes (i.e. mouthy steve rushin) are slighly less annoying than the golf heads.
March 13th, 2009 at 5:15 pm
I can’t wait until LeBron unveils his unstoppable one-dribble coast-to-coast dunk.
March 13th, 2009 at 5:16 pm
How about a 5′9 guy? Or at least root for a guy like this to get more playing time in the NBA.
If you don’t like dunks they also have the WBNA
March 13th, 2009 at 5:16 pm
updated jaric – no charges will be filed
March 13th, 2009 at 5:17 pm
Ha! Now that was funny. Here is my concession: if soccer were to have gone head to head with pedophilia, I would definitely have picked soccer, and would expect others to do the same.
March 13th, 2009 at 5:17 pm
evidence to my previous post.
all too common soccer mentality;
don’t like soccer? then you’re too dumb to breathe.
ppppfffftttt.
March 13th, 2009 at 5:18 pm
if flyover country means you don’t have to deal with the soccer snots, give me the cornfields!
March 13th, 2009 at 5:20 pm
his common sense has been restored.
of course, i feel bad for him now. wifey probably isn’t all too thrilled these days.
March 13th, 2009 at 5:20 pm
that wind gust you feel is the state of tennesse letting out a collective sigh of relief.
March 13th, 2009 at 5:21 pm
In flyover country, soccer debates you!
March 13th, 2009 at 5:21 pm
jimmy – in tallguy’s defense, I did analogize soccer fans to pedophiles… so his response was probably reasonable.
March 13th, 2009 at 5:23 pm
Those idiots in flyover country just can’t appreciate the complexity of our gentlemanly game.
March 13th, 2009 at 5:24 pm
Did you read his arguments? They compared soccer to fucking pedophilia after I said this.
You’re going to say I’m the one thinking less of people for not liking soccer? I did nothing of the sort…just one person that apparently thinks if you like soccer, you like pedophilia.
March 13th, 2009 at 5:25 pm
i really love the “if you dont live on one of the coasts your stupid” attitude that is on most sites on the internet where most of the pansy mouthy would never act like that to someone face to face people tend to hangout.
March 13th, 2009 at 5:25 pm
boy, the last half hour of TBL on Friday has been fun. Let’s recap:
politics and yelling at new commentators on other post
hating soccer
hating hockey
racism
pedophilia
sexual assault
thought I was at MLJ for a minute
/time to start drinking
March 13th, 2009 at 5:26 pm
1-Not everyone is tall enough to play basketball
2-Not everyone has good enough hand-eye coordination to be good at baseball, besides t-ball of course
3-Not everyone’s parents will allow their kids to play football and some kids aren’t strong enough to handle it
4-Everyone can run around a 100-yard field with nothing to do(=soccer)
March 13th, 2009 at 5:27 pm
pedophilia = soccer fan analogy is a bit much.
but in my twisted sense of humor i did get a laugh out of that.
hey, i love howard stern, jackie martling and artie lange. so my tastes are a bit twisted and not for all either.
March 13th, 2009 at 5:27 pm
What language do you think they speak at home? Can’t be English right?
March 13th, 2009 at 5:28 pm
Any idiot with no skills can strap on the shin guards and run around a soccer field and call themselves a soccer player. It’s like the Wal-Mart of sports, anyone can do it. Not everyone can shop at gucci.
I’m willing to bet there are more NBA posters on the “youths” walls than there are soccer.
March 13th, 2009 at 5:31 pm
soccer players are far worse athletes as a whole than soccer players.
and i’m a baseball fan.
in my eyes the three (team) sports with the best athletes are:
nba (i’m not a fan)
hockey (i am a fan)
soccer (neither a fan nor hater).
some football players are fantastic athletes though i wouldn’t put linemen in that category.
only a handful of really fine athletes in baseball (some middle infielders, some outfielders maybe a pitcher here or there).
March 13th, 2009 at 5:31 pm
Nate Robinson and Isaiah Thomas beg to differ.
March 13th, 2009 at 5:33 pm
what form of venacular did “white chocolate” try to communicate in?
March 13th, 2009 at 5:33 pm
curling: the home of the best athletes in the world.
March 13th, 2009 at 5:33 pm
When you’re a youth, I don’t think height matters as much.
March 13th, 2009 at 5:34 pm
man, those people can sweep a mean sidewalk.
March 13th, 2009 at 5:35 pm
You guys are struggling; Poker has the greatest athletes on Earth
March 13th, 2009 at 5:35 pm
I don’t want to dis the athetic ability of professional soccer players – they are faster than me, can run forever, can kick far, etc. My problem is that the sport is, to me, quite boring. I try to watch every sport – means less time I am forced to converse with the wife. But soccer is unwatchable.
March 13th, 2009 at 5:37 pm
doing tasks like that did create a all valley karate tournament champion
March 13th, 2009 at 5:38 pm
Are you kidding? Apart from Andre Smith, there are OLineman putting up faster 40 times than you can dream of, and they are doing at 300+ lbs.
If you consider HS kids as a youth it does.
Two people out of over 308 million? good odds
March 13th, 2009 at 5:40 pm
I don’t. I consider youth sports as community sports like AYSO, little league, pop warner, etc. High school doesn’t count. In fact, I think junior high is borderline.
March 13th, 2009 at 5:42 pm
I’m not saying the elite European players aren’t athletic, but on the whole I consider soccer players’ athleticism like that of a cross country runner’s. One of my best friends played D1 soccer, and can run forever without getting tired, but that’s about the only athletic skill he really has. That’s probably an unfair assessment, but what the hell, at least I’m not comparing it to NAMBLA.
March 13th, 2009 at 5:42 pm
Right. Because there are only two people who have played basketball successfully without being over six feet tall. Keeping in mind that those two players played at the same college, within four years of each other.
Think.
March 13th, 2009 at 5:43 pm
ok,then i get you
but these days, you’ve got some monstrous 4th graders
March 13th, 2009 at 5:44 pm
They’re pretty agile too. Basically, anything that doesn’t require contact.
March 13th, 2009 at 5:45 pm
I’d put the over under at 150 NBA players…i’d take the under.
March 13th, 2009 at 5:47 pm
Mugsy and A.I. were pretty good too, IMO. Spud was decent…
March 13th, 2009 at 5:48 pm
What does this even mean? Soccer players are superb athletes becase they can run a lot, but also incredible body control, because the Never use hands. Catching a football (or baseball) is more impressive the juggling a soccer ball? Really?
March 13th, 2009 at 5:49 pm
So you’re just gonna jump right from youth sports to the NBA. Makes sense to me.
March 13th, 2009 at 5:49 pm
john stockton is hof’er.
March 13th, 2009 at 5:51 pm
is juggling a hackey sack more impressive than catching a football?
/fucking hippies
March 13th, 2009 at 5:52 pm
do the comments ever stick to the same topic on this site?
March 13th, 2009 at 5:55 pm
MVP voting in order right now,
Lebron, Wade, Gasol, D Howard
March 13th, 2009 at 5:57 pm
Let me spell it out for you:
You: “You need to be tall to play youth basketball”
Me: “No you don’t”
You: “Yes you do, because there aren’t a lot of short players in the NBA.”
Do you see why that’s idiotic?
March 13th, 2009 at 5:57 pm
howard, we went from “Matt” Sanchez to Usain Bolt to Hockey vs. Soccer to soccer isn’t a real sport all in one post. What do you think?
Damon Stoudamire was pretty good..
March 13th, 2009 at 5:58 pm
i’m really enjoying these little debates on some of the culture posts
a bit surprised Kobe is losing

/fixed
March 13th, 2009 at 6:02 pm
winner…thecassino!
March 13th, 2009 at 6:02 pm
Why play youth basketball if you don’t want to go to the next level? Therefore if you are a short kid(assuming they don’t have a ridiculous growth spurt), you have less than a 1% shot at be successful professionally.
March 13th, 2009 at 6:05 pm
You have got to be kidding me.
March 13th, 2009 at 6:06 pm
wow some kids play it because they enjoy to play it. thats why i did anyway. if you are playing sports as a kid because you think it ensures that you will play it when you grow up i have a wake up call for you jr. not a lot of people make a living as a pro athlete…probably less than you think anyway.
March 13th, 2009 at 6:06 pm
That’s why I love TBL commenters.
March 13th, 2009 at 6:06 pm
for fun? Only 60 people get drafted every year in the NBA, tall or short. You have MUCH less than a 1 percent chance regardless.
March 13th, 2009 at 6:07 pm
keep in mind everyone howardryan6 is only 15.
March 13th, 2009 at 6:09 pm
That’s no excuse. You can’t just bring idiotic arguments just for the sake of it.
March 13th, 2009 at 6:09 pm
Me too, Ruck. ADHD kicks ass!!
March 13th, 2009 at 6:10 pm
You have less than a 1% shot in all pro sports combined. Hell you have a less than 1% chance if you are a above average college player in a sport.
March 13th, 2009 at 6:11 pm
Forget the pedophilia thing. If you want to know why people hate soccer, start with this quote.
March 13th, 2009 at 6:54 pm
I’m a laker fan and I still had a hard time voting for him, he’s just not that likable. Plus Usian Bolt was pretty freaking cool this summer, that was a tough draw for Kobe.
March 13th, 2009 at 6:55 pm
RE: hockey vs. soccer. I have little to no interest in both, but I voted for soccer because of the wags.
March 14th, 2009 at 3:53 am
I voted Hockey, only because they use skates. Both are easily played by a dog. Chase the circle back and forth and hope it slides into the net. Tiddlywinks would have been a much more amusing, and deserving, entry into the tournament.
