Who Wants Crybaby Jay Cutler?
NFL March 16th. 2009, 11:30am
The once-mighty 2006 draft class has fallen on hard times – the Cardinals have so much faith in Matt Leinart that they gave a 38-year-old $23 million. The Titans have are unhappy with unstable Vince Young and are ready to rely on 36-year-old, error-prone Kerry Collins. And the Broncos hired a new coach, who promptly tried to ship Jay Cutler out of town, a move the mouthy kid from Vanderbilt will not soon forget.
“I went in there with every intention of solving the issue, being a Bronco, moving forward as a Bronco,” Cutler said. “We weren’t in there but about 20 minutes, [McDaniels] did most of the talking and as far as I’m concerned, he made it clear he wants his own guy. He admitted he wanted Matt Cassel because he said he has raised him up from the ground as a quarterback. He said he wasn’t sorry about it. He made it clear that he could still entertain trading me because, as he put it, he’ll do whatever he feels is in the best interest of the organization.
Nice scoop, Mort. Cutler isn’t showing up to today’s first team meeting, and one of his Denver houses – and his parents’ house – are up for sale. Welcome to Denver, Josh McDaniels. Owner Pat Bowlen says he’s behind his new coach and disappointed in Cutler’s reaction, but you know he’s got to be privately stewing that a division rival got strong (Kansas City), the Raiders could be improved, and he’s got to deal with a pissy QB and a WR with off-the-charts talent who can’t avoid the law.
Oh, and free agency? Three DBs, three RBs, a WR and five other signings later … and they’re still not a playoff team.

Everything will be fine once his blood sugar levels off.
March 16th, 2009 at 11:34 am
the nerve of that guy…putting the needs of the team over the needs of one person. who does he think he is, some sort of organizational leader?
March 16th, 2009 at 11:35 am
I still can’t think of one plausible trade scenario for him, though.
March 16th, 2009 at 11:36 am
all you need to know about cutler is his parents moved to within three miles of his denver house.
translation: spoiled little brat. “wwwhhaaa. my team tried to trade me. wwwhhhaaa.”
is this guy that good that he’s worth the soap opera drama sideshow? i don’t think so.
maybe cutler needs to monitor his blood sugar a bit more closely?

If the AFC West disappeared tomorrow, would anyone notice?

bsanders do you really want to anger Raider fan?
Do you have a death wish?

The Broncos, the Jets, the Lions and whatever team Gruden is coaching in 2010.
March 16th, 2009 at 11:41 am
They can put the Raiders on the Double Dutch Bus and usher them out of the NFL for all I care.

“If Cutler is dealt, his preferences figure to be the Tennessee Titans, who play in Nashville, or the Chicago Bears, his favorite childhood team who would seem to be in need of a quarterback upgrade. Other possibilities could be Cleveland, whose coach, Eric Mangini, was formerly McDaniels’ colleague on Bill Belichick’s staff in New England; Tampa Bay; Minnesota; Detroit and Arizona.”

Tampa Bay needs a QB
March 16th, 2009 at 11:45 am
Cutler is from Fat Man in Red Suit, Indiana and we was a Bears fan? Bitch.
March 16th, 2009 at 11:45 am
I see nothing wrong with that.

Cleveland fans and radio personalities seem to think they have a chance to land Cutler.
March 16th, 2009 at 11:56 am
Cleveland fans and radio personalities seem to think they have a chance to land Cutler.Don’t they already have a QB of the future? I wonder if there is a chance they try to send Cutler and a Pick for Quinn. Maybe the fact Quinn was tutored by Weis is appealing to Denver.
March 16th, 2009 at 11:59 am
Wouldn’t it more likely be Cutler for Quinn and a pick?
Interesting idea, though.

I don’t care how much a baby Cutler is being, the one who is failing here is McDaniels. It is his job to get the most out of his personnel. Doesn’t matter who is right, who is wrong, who is being baby or whatever, the Denver Broncos are in a significantly worse position than they were before this happened and the buck stops with the coach who is paid to do “whatever he feels is in the best interest of the organization.”

Jeff George’s Mommy running out on the field when he was injured at Purdue would like to debate this with you.
Come to think of it, George and Emo Leitch Jr. seem to be a little alike: guns for arms, rocks for brains, a little too over-sensitive, a little too cocky
March 16th, 2009 at 12:11 pm
As long as he stays out of Tampa, I am fine. I don’t want to have to deal with him two games a year.
March 16th, 2009 at 12:15 pm
The reason why I say Cutler and a pick is because Denver is going to have to sweeten the pot. There would be no benefit for Cleveland in swapping 1st round QBs unless they can come out of the deal with something extra.
March 16th, 2009 at 12:17 pm
every team (non-Brady,Manning) should be interested in Cutler he’s one of, if not the best, young QB in the league right now. Broncos probably want 85 tons of platinum for him though. And it does appear he is a bit of a baby. Perhaps he needs a cookie or something.
March 16th, 2009 at 12:19 pm
If you consider Quinn to be Cutler’s equal, then sure.
But I don’t.
March 16th, 2009 at 12:20 pm
I totally agree with this. Yes Cutler is handling this situation well, but Josh McDaniels is messing this up big time. He’s going to be left with no QB and a huge mess on his hands from the way he dealt with it. He should have went to Cutler first and said we’re trying to get Cassel rather thatn doing it after the fact. I think thats courtesy.
Another smarmy New England coach? I don’t believe it.
March 16th, 2009 at 12:23 pm
+1 to Chitwood
March 16th, 2009 at 12:24 pm
McDaniels isn’t worried about losing Cutler because he thinks the Broncos will have a decided schematic advantage against other teams in the league.
March 16th, 2009 at 12:24 pm
I agree with Sponge. Every team that does not have an entrenched starter should be salivating over the prospect of a Cutler trade.
March 16th, 2009 at 12:31 pm
Get Julius Peppers to put the Broncos on his teams to be traded to list.
Peppers for Cutler…
Don’t watch the Broncos, but haven’t they desired a pass rusher since forever?
March 16th, 2009 at 12:33 pm

Cutler is handling this situation well? You’re nuts.
McDaniels and Cutler are both at fault here, but one person no one is talking about is Cutler’s agent. I think Bus Cook is a bigger problem right now than anyone is saying. When McDaniels asks Cutler to call him, he doesn’t and Cook calls the GM instead. When McDandiels says Jay, just you and I meet, no one else, Cook says he won’t allow it, and also does all the talking in the meeting.
He won’t let Cutler do anything without him there, and we all saw how well he maneuvered Favre in Green Bay last spring and summer.
March 16th, 2009 at 12:40 pm
Josh McDaniels is what, 32 years old? There’s some big time ego clashing going on with he and Cutler. Don’t forget where McDaniels comes from…ego central HQ.
Last I checked, Cutler led the NFL’s 2nd ranked offense last year with absolutely no running game. Dude had a different RB behind him every week.
When your new hotshot in-over-his-head 32 year old coach tries to trade you and then lies to your face about it, you bet your ass feelings and ego are going to be bruised. Yes it’s a business, but there’s an art to it, and McDaniels is 0-for-1 so far in how he goes about it. All players have egos, nothing they do should surprise you, but the coach is held to a higher standard.
Denver’s loss = Detroit or Tampa’s gain
March 16th, 2009 at 12:43 pm
Somewhere Phillip Rivers, douche that he is, is laughing his ass off over this Cutler stuff.
Send Cutler to Detroit. Now. Today.
March 16th, 2009 at 12:49 pm
I agree Maxwell, rs27 and cheeseburger… McDaniels looks worse here for all the reasons previously mentioned. Cutler would do well in Detroit (if someone can actually do well there!) with CJ. What would a trade look like between those two teams? Cutler for two picks? Maybe the late 1st and a third?
March 16th, 2009 at 12:53 pm
I think they are both being bitches…. but I’m on Cutler’s side here. If the dude is good enough to run Mike Shanahans offense, he’s good enough to run Josh F’n McDaniels offense. Just my opinion, but who the fuck is Josh McDaniels. The former Offensive Cord. for the Patriots, who hasn’t accomplished shit, except coaching a Tom Brady lead offense to a perfect REGULAR season. And the fact that he said he raised Matt Cassel from the ground up as a QB, WTF???? Never mind playing for Pete Carroll behind Carson Palmer and behind Brady for the last 5 years. Seriously, who does he think he is.
March 16th, 2009 at 12:53 pm
Cutler AND a pick for Brady Quinn? Even Spence wouldn’t suggest such a trade.
March 16th, 2009 at 1:09 pm
I agree with the notion that Cutler comes off looking childish, but McDaniels comes off looking in over his head. Take Cutler off of Denver and that is a 4 win team at best. I love how people rip his int numbers. If you knew, with certainty, that your defense was going to give up points on 75% of their drives than you would try to squeeze throws into small windows too. I have never heard of a new coach coming in and telling his young, pro bowl QB that he didn’t want him. It just doesn’t make any sense to me.

I remember those clips of Bradshaw telling John Elway to shut the f up and go play baseball when he forced an organizational issue. Turned out well for Elway and the Broncos.
March 16th, 2009 at 1:20 pm
I think he is saying this because before he was coordinator, he was the Quaterbacks coach since they drafted Cassel.
And it didnt take long for people to blame Bill Belichick for this. Kudos, commenters.

Good Call. Totally forgot he was the QB coach before getting bumped up.

I stand by my earlier comment about Bus Cook being the problem. I just found this, and it’s pretty interesting

March 16th, 2009 at 1:30 pm
no, but if the broncos offered it, id take it in a heartbeat.
cutler >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> quinn
im not sure what people expect in a QB, but cutler is as good as any young QB in the league. he’s miles better than roethlisberger.
March 16th, 2009 at 1:33 pm
Spence- Agreed. Cutler souds like a biatch, but I can’t think of more than a handful of QB’s I’d rather have… Brady, Manning, Roethlisberger, Brees, Rivers, Ryan, Cassel?? Without looking it up, it seems like he’s top-10, and McDaniels is digging a big hole here…
March 16th, 2009 at 1:40 pm
I meant isn’t. Me no good at English.

i mean bus cook?

March 16th, 2009 at 1:52 pm
You’re right, despite only being a year younger, he has 2 less Super Bowls and needs to win his next 34 in a row and go 8-2 in the playoffs to match Ben’s current win totals.

Whoa whoa whoa, a cocksucker sports agent being a prick negotiator, driving up the market for over-valued players, holding up training camp and stunting the growth and evolution of a rookie player? I’ve never heard of such a thing.
Throw Cook, Rosehaus, Condon, Steinberg, Boras and all those other boils on the ass of sports into a blender and hit frappe. Driving prices up to increase their cut, making salaries a news item and actually developing some pseudo-persona in the sports world…freakin disgusting.

i GUARANTEE that if cutler had big ben’s defense, he’d have a much better record. i love how big ben gets credit for being an amazing QB when he can barely put up 14 points per game.
he’s the last guy on the list who should take credit for the steelers’ success.
March 16th, 2009 at 4:41 pm
Romo for Cutler. Best wash out there. both teams will start off great and tail off in December.
