so when ussin bolt gets busted for taking PEDs will everyone still vote for him?
March 17th, 2009 at 6:33 pm
I don’t like this bracket.
March 17th, 2009 at 6:35 pm
Take that, Chris Brown!
March 17th, 2009 at 6:39 pm
I really thought one of these said Matt Ufford.
March 17th, 2009 at 6:42 pm
I’m amazed that there isn’t more outrage about what happened and the fact that she’s getting back with the guy. With all the entourages, agents, managers, celebrity friends, etc., no one told her how stupid and bad this makes her look? Not to mention to message it sends to little girls everywhere.
March 17th, 2009 at 6:42 pm
Mark Stafford would take Usain Bolt down.
March 17th, 2009 at 6:44 pm
stay in the kitchen and dont back talk?
March 17th, 2009 at 6:45 pm
Tebow down 14-0 at the end of one? Rihanna looks like Utah, Tebow Alabama.
off to the playoff hoops game. we’re going to get wrecked, unless the other team goes out boozing for st. patty’s day
March 17th, 2009 at 6:47 pm
Your laundry machine is in the kitchen?
March 17th, 2009 at 6:49 pm
Women have a really hard time getting out of abusive relationships. It’s not as easy as just taking off, the dudes often times have a mental hold on them. Plus, they typically destroy their self esteem to the point the girl thinks she actually deserves it. Fucking sickening.
March 17th, 2009 at 6:50 pm
Man, one of TBL’s teammates is sure going to get it tonight.
March 17th, 2009 at 6:50 pm
nope but thats where sammich mix is.
March 17th, 2009 at 6:52 pm
I understand that part, but not every girl is Rihanna. But then again, I guess not every girl is Britney Spears. I just figured that she’d have smart enough people around her to have prevented her going back. From every perspective–personal, professional, whatever–it’s a horrible decision.
March 17th, 2009 at 6:52 pm
Your ironing board is in your kitchen?
March 17th, 2009 at 6:56 pm
Soccer drew LeBron? I thought SVP had it rough…
March 17th, 2009 at 6:59 pm
does rihana have any brothers that can fuck chris brown up? that why im glad my sisters date complete pansies. they know that unless my sisters come up to them and blast them in the face like a dude and that there is visible proof that she did that then there is no excuse to hit them. god help the poor fool that ever lays his hands on my sisters in anger. the abused women who keep going back to dude cant go back if that dude is dead. i would happily go to jail if the dude hit my sister.
March 17th, 2009 at 7:18 pm
Really? Matt Stafford rated #6? I barely know who that guy is and I watch college ball every Saturday. Well, barely is a bit of an exaggeration but still. You’re ranking some dude at Georgia who never won anything or was ever near the Heisman 8 spots higher than the fastest person in the history of the world??
March 17th, 2009 at 7:20 pm
I can’t think of anything on Earth I’m less afraid of than mrej trying to fight me
March 17th, 2009 at 7:22 pm
yeah let me get your sisters # mrej, if only so I can fight you somewhere down the road.
March 17th, 2009 at 7:22 pm
fetch you’re such a internet badass. you’re right you would mop the floor with me. please spare me from your wrath.
March 17th, 2009 at 7:23 pm
no farvicodin you are also a badass that i want no part of.
March 17th, 2009 at 7:24 pm
farv, did you just indirectly say that you’d beat his sister?
March 17th, 2009 at 7:27 pm
through the transitive property yes, i think he did.
March 17th, 2009 at 7:31 pm
While TBL is at his bball game let’s all say stuff that we’d never be able to get away with otherwise. Mrej, would you like to contribute an n-bomb or two? Since you’re so good at it and all.
March 17th, 2009 at 7:33 pm
It being St. Patty’s day and all, maybe farv is trying to embrace his Irish roots.

March 17th, 2009 at 7:36 pm

March 17th, 2009 at 7:37 pm
see you have me soooo scared fetch. i can barely type. ok we were having this stupid discussion at mlj about racist jokes ro sayings it was ok to rip in to migrant aztec day laborers and our asian friends but i asked if it was ok to say the n-bomb(but i spelled it out) everyone flipped out because apparently its ok to rip on every other race except for african americans. so thats what happened and fetch is tough.
March 17th, 2009 at 7:40 pm
// racist
//sincere
March 17th, 2009 at 7:41 pm
i got no problem with racial humor but the N-word has a long history of pure hatred behind it. its like that south park episode when Stan says to Token “I get it Token, I don’t get it.”
March 17th, 2009 at 7:42 pm
thats not how that whole incident transpired
March 17th, 2009 at 7:43 pm
Oh…I’m sorry…the word we were looking for was nagger…
March 17th, 2009 at 7:44 pm
Anyone have a link to this whole incident?
March 17th, 2009 at 7:45 pm
Anyone else think the play-in game is kinda degrading?
March 17th, 2009 at 7:45 pm
No ruck clown went and edited all the comments. I think we eventually deleted the post but I’m not sure, you’d have to ask one of the two bosses.
March 17th, 2009 at 7:45 pm
I’m looking to add another blog into my daily routine. Should I go with MLJ or Sparty and Friends?
March 17th, 2009 at 7:47 pm
Wow, it got that bad?
March 17th, 2009 at 7:47 pm
mlj is good …bsanders blog is good. today is the first time i have ever went to sparty’s site.
March 17th, 2009 at 7:48 pm
you could just read them both for awhile.
/never read much on either
March 17th, 2009 at 7:49 pm
yup and it was just me. all me.
/fallguy
March 17th, 2009 at 7:50 pm
Yeah it was pretty bad. Sadly none of us were around for it so it kinda spiraled out of control. As far as the Sparty/MLJ debate….unless you’re the president of the US I think you’d have time to read both. MLJ top 100 prospects is tomorrow if you’re interested.
/teaser!
March 17th, 2009 at 7:51 pm
As an uniterested observer it made me cringe. mrieere initially spelled it out, started throwing out asian epitaphs and then the last comment was something like “fine, i’ll just say it, BAD WORD”. I’m glad they deleted the comments.
Ruck, go to em both, I do. Also check out EHOWA.com (Erns house of woop ass) nswf
March 17th, 2009 at 7:51 pm

can i show up too?
March 17th, 2009 at 7:52 pm
oh, and Fetch is right, none of the authors were there
March 17th, 2009 at 7:53 pm
I don’t know if I’m ready to increase my Internet grab ass by two folds, but I guess I can find a way.
March 17th, 2009 at 7:54 pm
yup as max said i showed up with my white hood and just started going to town.
March 17th, 2009 at 8:00 pm
Absolutely. The committee couldn’t make a decision? I’d like it if the game wasn’t to decide who plays the overall #1 in the 1st rd. Its like fighting to see who gets to vomit on space mountain and leave Disney World early.

God sometimes I hate being a Duke fan…I know they aren’t going to win, but I still can’t pick against them. If only I were a State fan, then I’d be able to be objective.
/losing every single bracket
March 17th, 2009 at 8:26 pm
I actually picked MSU to not make it to the Final Four. Last time I did that was in 2005 and then they made it.
/Big time homer.
March 17th, 2009 at 8:27 pm
tallguy i picked illinois to get beat by gonzaga. its hard but i dont think about who my team is and i just pick. dont give yourself too much time to thin about it.
March 17th, 2009 at 8:27 pm
I solved that problem by not doing a bracket last year. I also didn’t watch or read any NCAA analysis. Worst March ever.
March 17th, 2009 at 8:28 pm
by the way nice site sparty and congrats.
March 17th, 2009 at 8:29 pm

I’m looking to add another blog into my daily routine. Should I go with MLJ or Sparty and Friends?
I would say Sparty and Friends. I don’t really like MLJ. Not my style, but unless you read it you won’t know. Seems like a lot of stuff I don’t care about.
you basically got 8 guys who trash each other, as well as tbl all day. They read this site voraciously and then mock anything anyone says.
It’s like going back to Junior High
March 17th, 2009 at 8:37 pm
This play-in game is terrible. 29-18 at half? Yikes. Louisville has to be licking their chops.
March 17th, 2009 at 8:38 pm
does anything stand out in regards to the Yankees lineup tonight?
March 17th, 2009 at 8:42 pm
Look at Ransom’s OPS! Shit, he’s better than A-Rod! Even if it is a small sample size…

Inasmuch as Louisville played Morehead during the season, and beat them by 50…I’d say yes.

March 17th, 2009 at 8:45 pm
Just has to be entered incorrectly. There is no way Posada was leadoff.
March 17th, 2009 at 8:46 pm
Sparty: Did you see the Yanks had to borrow $105 million to pay for their stadium?
Thanks for the kind words jpq!
March 17th, 2009 at 8:48 pm
Posada leading off is what jumps out at me.
March 17th, 2009 at 8:50 pm
Sparty according to Newsday he is leading off, Maybe Girardi plans on yanking him after Sabathia is done ans wants him to get some ABs
March 17th, 2009 at 8:50 pm
Completely agree. I wouldn’t mind seeing the last at large berth being settled this way. Or make it the last 4 and have 4 games today with the winners playing as 13 seeds. Gives the 4s a slight unfair advantage, but not by much. But it really sucks that one of these two teams won’t experience the dance eventhough they earned their way in by getting their conferences automatic bid just so theses major conferences can get 7 teams in or whatever. The little man always get screwed.
March 17th, 2009 at 8:51 pm
i loved junior high. i had my growth spurt before almost 90% in my grade i was like godzilla. when i hit hs they all made me look like mini-me.

Yes.
I just think he developed some wheels while he was on the DL with his shoulder injury.
March 17th, 2009 at 8:54 pm
Fetch- what’s the word on Jose Tabata. Is he going to be playing in Pittsburgh this year?
March 17th, 2009 at 8:56 pm
Nah Sparty he’ll probably start in AA and move to AAA later in the year. Maybe he’ll be a September callup. The guy is younger than I am and he’s played 4 pro seasons. Unreal.
March 17th, 2009 at 8:58 pm
Are the Yanks going to regret giving up on him?
March 17th, 2009 at 9:01 pm
29-16? that was the halftime score of our rec league playoff game. We played the only unbeaten team - they weren’t around last season, but the season prior, they won it all.
we got smoked. the ref joked to me prior that the spread was 22. at halftime we were only down 13 and i told him we’d cover. i started the second half on the bench (not by choice), and they went on a 14-1 run. ballgame.
pretty sick team they had. 4 guys who could really play - one 6-7 guy who hit like 3 three’s - and then an older guy who was decent. they pressed full court the whole time and we ended up rushing shots and turning it over a lot. i played poorly.
March 17th, 2009 at 9:02 pm
Well it depends. I think he’d be a good long term guy in CF. They definitely didn’t need to give him up for Xavier Nady and Damaso Marte. But I don’t think he’ll ever be a superstar or anything.
March 17th, 2009 at 9:03 pm
I am okay with that. They said he was untouchable for awhile.
March 17th, 2009 at 9:04 pm
tbl…you are growing up before our very eyes. you didnt throw one person under the bus.
March 17th, 2009 at 9:06 pm
Sounds like he threw 5 of them under the bus, instead of just one. That’s growing, all right!
March 17th, 2009 at 9:07 pm
ah good point wally .but he did say he played horribly.
March 17th, 2009 at 9:07 pm
I’m probably in the minority in this, but I think he could be a decent leadoff or 2 hole type. He just hasn’t developed any power yet. Of course, he is only 20 and has had a broken hammate bone so who knows. I wouldn’t call anyone in that farm system untouchable right now.
March 17th, 2009 at 9:10 pm
The demon chick on Reaper is really really hot…and the episode was actually somewhat decent unlike the rest of this season.
The play in game is fucking terrible…I kinda don’t feel that sad for these guys now.
March 17th, 2009 at 9:10 pm
Well, the Manny comparisons were being made the moment he showed up at rookie ball. i didn’t get it, because each time I checked his numbers, there was a lack of run production and power.
March 17th, 2009 at 9:20 pm
Cavs just finished off the Magic, 97-93… A couple of very shady calls late helped the Cavs complete the win.
LeBron was ho-hum. 41-11-8. Superman had 13 and 15.
March 17th, 2009 at 9:21 pm
thank god obama made dan rooney the irish ambassador. the dude probably needed the money. and the job.
March 17th, 2009 at 9:22 pm
actually, now that you mention it … i didnt play my best game offensively, but i was pretty strong on D. at any rate, I am upset that our weakest player refused to come out in the second half. he knows he’s a bad player. just not an athlete. doesn’t grasp fundamentals - take away the guy’s right hand, pick and roll, one eye on your defender, another eye on the action, etc. nice kid, though.
i know everyone pays to be in the league, and it just so happens that he paid the ref tonight ($15 - each team pays) so i guess he figured that meant more PT for him. we’re at our best with him off the floor.
two other guys tried to tell him to sub out at the start of the 2nd half, but that’s not my style. im not going to tell someone to get out in favor of someone else. but if we wanted a chance to win, it would have been best with him spelling everyone else for a couple minutes here and there, not playing THE ENTIRE SECOND HALF.
March 17th, 2009 at 9:24 pm
well see that guy you should kick in the nuts in front of everyone. carmelo anthony would be proud though.
March 17th, 2009 at 9:25 pm
Thanks for the kind words jpq!
fetch and roman: I know you guys are involved in the site (roman more, I believe). You guys, tampa and spencer (and others) I have no real issue with. There are others though that I do. I just don’t like all the tbl or various tbl commentors (or soon to be me, probably) trash talked by people who used to post here but don’t now but who seem obsessed w/ this site.
I do go to your site every day or three, read some of the posts, and do enjoy it. I just don’t know if I’d post there & deal w/ the shit.
TBL & sparty have the back and forth bs (fun and sometimes serious), but it’s not the same as at MLJ. Sorry, but it’s just my opinion.
March 17th, 2009 at 9:26 pm
This rec league sounds intense. Rec league football can get pretty nasty from time to time. It’s really hard to ask a bunch of ex-football players to just “touch” someone down. One dude last year got his face opened up pretty good.
March 17th, 2009 at 9:29 pm
nah, not that intense … i just hate losing. i’m the type of guy that if someone on our team is getting dominated, ill come over and maybe deliver a hard foul on the opponent to let him know all his shit won’t be easy.
not a cheap shot, mind you - just something to make him think twice next time he was down low. i’ve never “hurt” anyone.
nice green suit, musburger
March 17th, 2009 at 9:31 pm
There is no excuse for not being able to play defense…that’s why I don’t understand how UNC can be so terrible at it. The fundamentals are so easy to learn (ball-you-man is pretty fucking simple, the stance is easily taught), it all comes down to effort.
March 17th, 2009 at 9:32 pm
that’s what happened when a bunch of us went and played in a flag football league after high school. first time the other team went over the middle, I timed it and dropped my shoulder into the guy. Lucky I didn’t separate it. But it was instinct.
March 17th, 2009 at 9:33 pm
jpq: no worries. I’m sure it gets on everyone’s nerves. It gets on mine too sometimes so no worries. I don’t know about the other guys but I appreciate constructive criticism. Key word being constructive of course.
March 17th, 2009 at 9:33 pm
tbl i know what you mean i cant stand losing in spades(the card game. calm down). i play everything to win.madden against my 10 yr old nephew i dont care. eat it kid! your the reason why your mom and dad got divorced! yeah i can get a little intense
March 17th, 2009 at 9:33 pm
arms extended. palms up. beat the man to the spot.
March 17th, 2009 at 9:36 pm
fetch: I would email you directly exactly my thoughts, if you want. if not, on my second email I did try to be constructive (at least a little-lol)
March 17th, 2009 at 9:36 pm
TBL, you should make your team run the shell drill until their defense is up to snuff.
March 17th, 2009 at 9:37 pm
Yeah, flag football is a tough adjustment to make. I’m still learning. It’s basically like seven-on-seven, but even when we used to play in seven-on-seven tournaments back in the day the refs used to let all sorts of shit go.
March 17th, 2009 at 9:39 pm
Musberger and Lavin are really struggling to fill this last minute of airtime. “The Zips and the Zags, the Zips and the Zags!”
March 17th, 2009 at 9:39 pm
yeah but sometimes when you see guy about to make a catch over the middle its just fun to put a good hit on him.
March 17th, 2009 at 9:40 pm
haven’t played around here in Jersey. In MI, we played with blockers, you could jam the receivers, so there was a little more contact. When I was in Florida, you weren’t allowed to touch anyone at all, and you played with 7 apples to rush the QB. I thought that was quite ghey.
March 17th, 2009 at 9:41 pm
Lovely…Lavin thinks Texas is going to handle Duke. Ignoring that Texas just isn’t that good this year, K versus Barnes is a bigger mismatch than Louisville versus Morgan State.
March 17th, 2009 at 9:42 pm
EA loves interviewing this nebbish hobbit.
March 17th, 2009 at 9:43 pm
jpq: if you want to its thecollegehockeyblog at gmail
tallguy: does duke have anyone down low who can handle pittman and james though? If Abrams can get his shot off enough I could at least see it.
March 17th, 2009 at 9:43 pm
7 apples? psssh! we played with one blitz every four downs and you could blitz after 3 apple and it was always 1apple2apple3apple all one word never 1 apple 2 apple 3 apple.
March 17th, 2009 at 9:44 pm
and we just received our first late inning Derek Jeter clutch comment of the year. Thank you, HR.
March 17th, 2009 at 9:44 pm
Kentucky’s not playing in Rupp? Why?
March 17th, 2009 at 9:45 pm
because rupp was racist?
March 17th, 2009 at 9:45 pm
Fetch - Lower seed? I dunno. Haven’t paid much attention to the CBI this year.
March 17th, 2009 at 9:46 pm
mrejr- that is why i liked the blocking. the rush was always on, and you could blitz as often as you like. the center was an eligible receiver.
March 17th, 2009 at 9:47 pm
If you haven’t signed up for TBL’s Tourney Pick ‘Em, here’s the number.
Group ID #141649
March 17th, 2009 at 9:47 pm
They said there was a conflict in Rupp Arena tonight, but didn’t specify what is was. Man, UK looks like shit so far. Turnover crazy.
March 17th, 2009 at 9:49 pm
Ha, the Kentucky state HS boys b-ball tournament kicked them out of Rupp. That’s a kick to Gillespie’s balls.
March 17th, 2009 at 9:49 pm
after the blitz happened we played uyou could pass it to whoever.
March 17th, 2009 at 9:52 pm
At what website?
March 17th, 2009 at 9:52 pm
Rupp has prior engagements…UK doesn’t plan on playing in the NIT.
March 17th, 2009 at 9:53 pm
You play spades mrejr? That game brings out the best and worst in me.
March 17th, 2009 at 9:53 pm
Is Memorial Coliseum full for the UK game? That will help tell the tale on whether Billy Clyde will survive to next year. Looks like it is, so the people haven’t completely turned him off. Of course, it might be the interest in going to a game in the old place too.
March 17th, 2009 at 9:54 pm
is it a coincidence that there is a anti-steroid commercial on the mlb network? or are they just hypocrites? or are they saying to kids wait until you’re in the majors to start juicing?
March 17th, 2009 at 9:54 pm
if they lose tonight, he’ll probably be fired tomorrow and then they will hire Travis Ford shortly thereafter.
March 17th, 2009 at 9:57 pm
sponge i hate having a shitty partner or opposition that just doesnt know how to play by the no over or underbidding rules or if your partner doesnt recognize that you are trumping certain cards and he/she refuses to throw that card. i could go on and on.
March 17th, 2009 at 9:58 pm
If they fire Gillespie, they have to eat $6 million. How will that look to the people on the UK campus enduring cutbacks in this shitty economy? God, I wish I could sign a deal with work where if they fire me they have to pay me for the next four years.
March 17th, 2009 at 9:59 pm
Fetch: Duke hasn’t had trouble defending down low recently, and I don’t see Abrams getting many good looks over Elliot Williams and Henderson, 2 guys that have 5 inches on him (at least) and are just as quick as he is. Nova is a much worse matchup because Zoubeck can’t play at all, leaving us with Thomas, Singler and McClure as the only postmen (Plumlee fouls too much). That said, Nova will have to pick either Singler or Henderson to shut down, because they don’t have any way to effectively guard both at the same time, AND Duke is one of the few teams that can effectively defend against Nova, because the team defensive speed allows Duke to switch on every screen without creating the mismatched post on guard that Nova thrives against.
/duke loses in the first round.

This is the second group since Yahoo can only find a way to accept 500 entries per group. It is close to 700 entrants.
the arrogant Kentucky basketball community won’t care. so dumb for firing Tubby.
I agree with this, but they just have to sit back. I’m still amazed he made aTm hoops what they still are today. They made the tourney again. Go back and see how many time aTm made the tourney prior to Pompous Billy. He’s a shmuck, sure, but lay off. All the negative shit hurts recruiting. aTm was nothing before he got there. The UK boosters are scaring off recruits with this shit.

I’m a lefty and I’m totally down with that shit. I’m down with killing lots of people: molesters, rapists, murderers, people who run meth labs, etc.

Woah, woah, woah…you’d kill Walter H. White?

Yea I would, dealing meth to me is crossing the line. He should sell dope with Mary Louise Parker.
March 17th, 2009 at 10:28 pm
Has anyone ever seen this Ultimate Gamer show on SciFi? These people are nuts, and there’s a hot blonde gamer with huge fake cans.
March 17th, 2009 at 10:29 pm
The government should never, ever kill anyone. I don’t care what they did, it’s not right and it doesn’t have any deterrent effect at all. Just make life without parole truly life without parole, and be done with it. That way, there’s no possible chance of killing an innocent person.

March 17th, 2009 at 10:33 pm
With the accuracy ratings of our justice system, I support this. For every obviously guilty person they put to death, there are cases that are clouded in uncertainty. I just don’t think it can be that cut and dry.
March 17th, 2009 at 10:34 pm
its not a deterrent when you are sentenced to death but then you get to live for 35 years on the tax payers dime. the average cost it takes to house scumbags is like 35,000+ a year. and they get free medical. free education. how is that right? and i almost forgot they also have a public defender working on their appeals that is also on the tax payers dime.
March 17th, 2009 at 10:36 pm
Tallguy -
Wow, totally agree. And I think a worse death is sitting behind bars for the rest of your life rather than having the easy way out by dragging out appeals over 10 to 20 years and torturing the victim’s family with drawn out appeals. Nobody understands this until they have been in jail. Losing freedom is something that is nothing approaching fun. Far from it.
/Spent a night in jail on two different occassions. Not. Fun. At. All. At least I knew I was getting out on minor violations after the sun came up.
March 17th, 2009 at 10:36 pm
I’m not convinced there’s NO deterrent effect, but basically I agree. And @Ruck: Put them in jail, where at least they have a chance to get out on DNA evidence if they’re actually innocent, and stop jailing small time weed users.
March 17th, 2009 at 10:36 pm

Where would you put everybody? The prisons are impacted as is.
Ruck
Death penalty cases are a very small minority. If we’re looking at overcrowding, get the small time drug cases out.
mrejr brings up a good counter-point to my arguement.
March 17th, 2009 at 10:40 pm
Mrejr, capital punishment costs more than life without parole, due to the mandatory, lengthy appeals process. Plus the fact that there’s a severe racial bias in determining who actually gets the death penalty, and the fact that innocent people have been killed, and it just doesn’t make sense in either a moral or a financial fashion.
As for prison population…well, if we’d stop jailing non violent weed offenders, we’d have plenty of room. In all seriousness, average stay on death row is what, 9+ years? So they’re already there for what is likely to be half of their time in jail, plus the fact that deathrow inmates are a small percentage of inmates of a total, life without parole wouldn’t have any significant impact on prison populations.
March 17th, 2009 at 10:40 pm
But..Shawshank made it look so fun.
gfunk, I agree on the weed and petty drug charges. That’s stupid. As for putting them in jail, I’m not sure I follow.

I spent eight hours in the Springfield, IL jail because my lawyer forgot to send in some paperwork and their was a warrant out for my arrest when I got pulled over for speeding on my way to STL. Jail sucks. I will do everything in my power to never again be incarcerated with methheads.
March 17th, 2009 at 10:41 pm
i worked at a prison you may have heard of, stateville. john wayne gacy was put to death there and richard speck stayed there until he died. i would rather die than be locked up.
March 17th, 2009 at 10:41 pm
Wait, I think i agree with Mrejr. Are you talking about how much more expensive it is to house death penalty cases because of the costs associated with appeals? Studies have shown those can cost millions of dollars.
March 17th, 2009 at 10:42 pm
@ Ruck: I mean, put the potential death penalty people in jail for life. If there’s eventually DNA evidence that gets them off, they get off. Whereas when people on death row get killed and then they find the DNA gets them off, they’re already dead.
March 17th, 2009 at 10:43 pm

after the first appeal doesnt pass kill ‘em dont give them a billion appeals. and do not start the only certain races get the death penalty argument. either way like i said before i respect your opinion but i disagree and there is no way you can change my mind.

March 17th, 2009 at 10:46 pm
That stat is a little skewed since UConn was up in a bunch of games and were thusly fouled more at the end of them but I agree, Duke isn’t the only team who gets calls.
March 17th, 2009 at 10:48 pm
has any of the dude gamers heard of proactive?
March 17th, 2009 at 10:48 pm
Wow I missed a good discussion. And one with no name calling. Interesting. I suppose it’s because a couple certain people whom I won’t name weren’t involved. I would call myself a moderate, although I lean left. I think certain people should be put to death but for the most part I’d rather avoid it.
bsanders: That chick isn’t bad, but “all about her?” FTH?
March 17th, 2009 at 10:51 pm
Well, maybe not “all about her.” But need a new online obsession.
March 17th, 2009 at 10:51 pm
Economics aside, if there’s no reasonable doubt regarding guilt, I believe there should be a death penalty. I mean there are some real monsters out there. Remember when TBL posted that link of those four people who kidnapped this couple and did unspeakable acts on them? Or have you heard about the father who locked his daughter up for 24 years in the basement only to repeatedly rape her and father seven kids that way? He never let them see the day of light and they’re permanently messed up.
So, I don’t know. I think the death penalty should exist for certain extreme cases such as these.
March 17th, 2009 at 10:54 pm
I can totally understand thinking certain people should be put to death. For example, I’m from OK and it is hard for me to reconcile NOT putting Timothy McVeigh to death. But I just don’t think it’s right.

March 17th, 2009 at 11:49 pm
late to the party on this, I’m against the death penalty for all but one offense… the people who protest the war at the funerals of the men and women who died while in service of this country deserve to be shot on sight. I thought Bush signed a law (one of the few intelligent things he did while in office) prohibiting that public behavior within some decent yardage of the funeral site. That distance needs to be upped to like 500 miles and include the death penalty as an accepted form of punishment.
Otherwise, protest of any other kind is all right with me.
The injustices with regards to race and inaccurate and faulty evidence are great arguments against the death penalty . Just my opinion

No federal law but many states have passed laws requiring a certain distance from funerals. They are all from a certain anti-homosexual church and beleive war dead is God’s way of punishing America for its substandard morals

Is Memorial Coliseum full for the UK game? That will help tell the tale on whether Billy Clyde will survive to next year. Looks like it is, so the people haven’t completely turned him off. Of course, it might be the interest in going to a game in the old place too.

March 18th, 2009 at 12:03 am
here is the thing about the race issue and the death penalty. if people of certain races werent responsible the majority of our crimes (which there are many of studies that says the certain races are responsible for the majority of crimes) then the the majority of people on death row owuldnt be of a certain race. but i know its not their fault somehow someway it isnt their fault right?
March 18th, 2009 at 12:06 am
i p.c.’d the hell out of that.
March 18th, 2009 at 12:07 am
I used to think this, I’m not exactly sure when I stopped thinking this, but right now, as a recent law grad my attitude has definitely changed.
The process is such a game that one appeal doesn’t seem to be enough for a death penalty case. There are too many cases that go through tons of appeals that get nothing then finally get an appeal that exonerates someone.
March 18th, 2009 at 12:10 am
so if a guys leves dna is video taped doing the crime and is witnessed doing it he still gets the appeal after appeal after appeal. and i dont give a fuck if your insane the dude will always be insane kill him and put him out of his and our misery.
March 18th, 2009 at 12:16 am
how many of the anti-death people are pro assisted suicide? i am pro assisted suicide i have watch a few of my family members suffer thorugh cancer if i get cancer and im on my last legs just put me to sleep for fucks sake.
March 18th, 2009 at 12:18 am
how many death penalty cases are going to have the crime video taped or otherwise be that cut and dry?
March 18th, 2009 at 12:25 am
that was a extreme but seriously sometimes the dude is just guilty. plain and simple. end him quickly. now the pre-dna cases i believe should be backed the fuck up and combed through but. now adays with people like gil grissom and horatio cane doing their shit every week on cbs it is almost impossible to get away with shit. i mean those guys are the shit and they are real arent they?
/i know gil and horatio are fake
March 18th, 2009 at 12:29 am
Education. Pursue it.
March 18th, 2009 at 12:30 am
Oh, I know that dudes are guilty. And, it’s way more than just “sometimes the dude is just guilty.” Most times, the dude is just guilty. It’s just that, to me, that rare time where the dude is not guilty, I don’t want him to lose his life unless everything possible is done.
March 18th, 2009 at 12:46 am
i want everything to be done as well but unfortunately there will be fuck ups in the system no matter how “perfect” it is. would you rather be wrongly convicted of a crime and spend 25 to 30 yrs in prison or would you rather just die? im sorry but i would rather just die than be locked up for 25 to 30 yrs for something i didnt do. your life is fucked beyond that point i dont care how much money you get when you get out. sorry thats the way i feel. and cassino i know im stupid because i’m not college educated but some things you can learn without going to college.
believe it or not.
March 18th, 2009 at 12:58 am
I don’t know if I would rather die or take 25-30 in prison, and I also don’t want to take that choice away from someone. Having read a lot of things about people who were innocent and the one thing that kept them going while in prison was the possibility of their innocence being found out, I think some people wouldn’t agree with taking the quick death over the long wrongful imprisonment.
March 18th, 2009 at 1:09 am
i know some people wouldnt agree. but in the end how many guilty people have been to death compared to the innocent? sometime people just get fucked and is that wrong but no matter what thats just they way it goes.
March 18th, 2009 at 1:11 am
and im not saying shoot me as soon as the guilty verdict is read but give it 10 yrs max that you are on death row. spending 35 yrs for the axe to drop is more torture than anything i could imagine.
March 18th, 2009 at 1:15 am
Sorry, but the sociology of minorities versus the majority in the United States (or any country) is not a simple issue.
March 18th, 2009 at 1:19 am
i never said the issues that minorities face are simple. but do certain minorities committ(or i should say get caught) more crimes than the majority? yes or no?
March 18th, 2009 at 1:20 am
mrejr - The problem with race is the death penalty is this. It’s been proven statistically that juries are more likely to approve the death penalty for a minority defendant. They are also more likely to approve the death penalty when the victim is white. It’s not that there are more minorities on death row that is the problem. It is that they have a far more likely chance of being put there based on the color of their skin.
March 18th, 2009 at 1:25 am
could it be that there is more of chance that they are put there because certain minorities commit more of the crimes that would be considerd for the death penalty? until there is a time when the majority commits as many crimes as the minority i say that you cant really have accurate statistics.
/by the way im just totally liking this discussion and im not the racist ass that i sound like.
March 18th, 2009 at 1:52 am
That’s the disconnect. Because so many people from minorities are not on equal footing they’re more likely to commit crimes. Once they do, they’re more likely to be arrested (rightly or not) for them. Once they’re caught, they’re more likely to be convicted (due to racial bias and socioeconomic issues - most minorities cannot hire top flight legal counsel). And once convicted they’re more likely to be given the death penalty. It’s not simply “they’re committing more crimes.”
March 18th, 2009 at 2:14 am
but equal footing is earned. money is color blind(o.j. anyone?) and alot of it has to do with that alot of the minorities believing just because the color of their skin and stuff that happened in the past that things should be given to them or they believe that because the color of their skin that they are being “held down” i dont believe that is the case now adays. being poor and part of the majority is the same as being poor and being part of the minority. i grew up poor and can support that claim. now if you averaged how many people got sent to death row based on avg income and it was insanely high in one direction then i would say you have a point. buut im willing to bet the number of majority on death row that is poor match(or very close to) the number of minorities on death row. keep in mind the percentage of the poor minority that committs death row level crimes are probably higher than what majority committs.(i dont have the figures in fronnt of me so if im wrong please prove me wrong.) than its more of a class battle than a race battle in my opinion.
