Florida Will Do Anything to Try and Wedge Tebow’s “Mississippi Speech” Into Gipper Territory
College Football, Video March 24th. 2009, 5:30pm
Missed this last week, while obsessing over the NCAA tournament:
Florida recently put up a plaque outside the front entrance to the new football facility at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium with Tebow’s speech inscribed on it.
Just so we’re clear - it’s no Gipper speech. Never will be. It’s not even as moving as the one below. Not seen in that Gainesville Sun photo of the plaque - Verne Lundquist and Thom Brennaman stopping by to pay homage. Anyone know Tebow’s summer plans? And do they involve foreskin, politics, or this girl?

i think it is pretty cool. he could have said “as long as i got my stats so what?” or “well if so and so would have made that catch ” he didnt though and in this day and age of selfish me me me me athletes i found this speech rare and cool.

I can’t wait until Texas beats the Gators next year.

I think it’s cool too. Why does every single thing have to be compared to the greatest in history? I didn’t hear anyone compare it to Schmidt or Gipper before you, TBL. Just let it be what it is, a bad ass speech for Florida to have fond memories of

backing it up is pretty bad ass, no doubt

I’d like to thank the University as a whole for providing such great bulletin board material. Even Jeff Capel couldn’t have come up with something better.
And it’s not the fact that he made the speech and was lucky enough to have his teammates help him pull through, but it’s such short-sighted dbaggery (clearly not tebow’s fault) that leads to them putting up a plaque within just a few months and before he even graduates.

They’re not trying to wedge it into anything. They lost a game, and he said that he would do whatever he could to make sure they didn’t lose any more. He did exactly that and took them to a national championship. That’s pretty bad ass.
If Steph Curry made a speech like this and delivered on it you’d have built a cathedral in his honor.

TBL hates Tebow more than he hates Hansbrough.

he should have just yelled ” i’m a soldier!” and stepped away from the mic.

Don’t really have an opinion on the plaque, I’ll just choose to ignore it. Really ready for him to graduate already.

Power to the MEple
Tim Tebow’d
I mean in all seriousness, the choad is still in school. People weren’t framing Michael Jordan or David Thompson gear before those guys left. It seems these days all you have to do is pull a Joe Namath and people sweat your dong. I think Tebow’s crown is going to get a little bit heavier every time he sees that plaque.

I don’t see anything wrong with the plaque, its an epic moment in their football history and its on a football/sports building. They didn’t etch it in the most historic school building or anything. It may have been better to wait until after he graduates but either way its not like the national championship is going anywhere.
