How’d Jay Cutler complete his first 24 hours on the trading block? By taking in UFC 96 Ultimate Fight Night in Nashville. There, he bumped into the indefatigable Jay Glazer of Fox Sports, who probably was in town filming another Subway commercial.

“I was surprised they decided to trade me this soon,” Cutler told Glazer in his first comments since the statement was released. “I didn’t want to get traded. This wasn’t me. (The Broncos) had been going back and forth saying things, wanting me to be their quarterback and then they didn’t. I really didn’t want this. I love Denver. I really like my teammates. I didn’t want it to get this far.”

Is Cutler feigning surprise, or did Bowlen’s comments really catch him off guard? What if Bowlen realized how dire the situation had become, and that the last bullet in his gun was to drop this edict? If McDaniels or Bowlen called Cutler this morning, don’t you think he’d be more apt to pick up the phone and who knows, maybe work this out?

Guess what is driving most of our speculation is that there doesn’t seem to be a team that can come close to offering something legit for Cutler. On Sportscenter last night, Mort said that the Broncos would want Detroit’s No. 1 this year and next year. WHAT?

It seems like the Redskins are (understandably) hot and heavy for Cutler, but they’re going to give up Jason Campbell and what, exactly? Is Campbell and the No. 13 pick too much for a bratty, mouthy punk with talent? Then again, Snyder overpays for everything, and it rarely works out, so perhaps this is the perfect landing spot for Cutler.
