Lost: Miles and Hurley Rock
TV April 2nd. 2009, 9:00am
How about that ending? The Other tells Richard Alpert: “… we should be asking Ellie …” and “… if Charles finds out …” we took that to mean the old bat in the church (Eloise Hawking – Farraday’s mother … right?) and Charles Widmore. Then Richard said he doesn’t answer to them, meaning he answers to … the island? The temple he took Ben to? Smokey?
Sawyer’s baby momma is also currently playing a white-trashy role on Friday Night Lights. She’s Saracen’s mom.
Why everyone came back: Kate: “To find Claire.” (So Claire is alive? Thought she was dead?) Sayid: to kill Ben. Sun: for her husband, Jin. Hurley: No clue. Jack: he doesn’t know yet. Juliet surmised: “You came back for you.” Our wife offered up “guilt.”
So do the Dharma folks go after Ben, which triggers the “war” that Widmore spoke of, or do the Others mess with Ben’s head and get him to go back to his camp and wipe everyone out?
The exchanges between Hurley and Miles were the best we’ve seen out of either character this season. It was as if two die-hard fans were talking to one another. “You’re an idiot.” Excellent usage of dingbat, too.
As painfully-boring as some of the Jack-Kate scenes can be, when she said, “I don’t like the new you, Jack,” and he shot back, “You didn’t like the old me, Kate,” we laughed.

Maybe alpert answers to jacob.
April 2nd, 2009 at 9:02 am
Yup, she was also the young blonde who had Farraday at gunpoint in the 50’s in that jughead episode.
April 2nd, 2009 at 9:03 am
This is hilarious
April 2nd, 2009 at 9:05 am
Did not like last night’s episode – for once, it was very predictable. However, the ending gave me great hope for next week.
April 2nd, 2009 at 9:13 am
Hurley and Miles were great
Don’t think “THE WAR” is with Dharma and the others, as this stuff has already happened. I think the war is more in the future (ajira people time)
I think Alpert is the smoke monster…explains the guyliner, entering the temple, not answering to them, and that he has “always been there”
Next week, or soon after, Ben kills Penny
Great episode!

I think that Claire look alike in the grocery store was actually trying to take Ben. She was walking towards the exit.
April 2nd, 2009 at 9:16 am
I hope you’re postulating and not being a spoiling spoiler.
April 2nd, 2009 at 9:16 am
me too cracker.
April 2nd, 2009 at 9:17 am
Kate cannot carry an entire episode. The entire flashback was terrible.
Hmmm.
April 2nd, 2009 at 9:17 am
WORST EPISODE EVER!
I hated 99.9999% of that episode. The writing sucked, I didn’t believe the storyline very much, and it seemed like a soap more than anything.
I hate Kate more and more and despise every storyline about her. Her character sucks and she just annoys the shit out of me. I can’t be alone here on this one am I?
April 2nd, 2009 at 9:19 am
Are we ever getting a Miles-centric episode? I think that would be very interesting.
April 2nd, 2009 at 9:19 am
i hate kate too. whenever she is featured its always a big whaaaaa fest cuz she so fucked up.
April 2nd, 2009 at 9:20 am
Roeth – yes I think we are. Him and Farraday are overdue for their own episodes.
April 2nd, 2009 at 9:20 am
What we need is an Alpert-centric episode.
And Desmond back, immediately.
April 2nd, 2009 at 9:21 am
Does Kate and Sawyer realize that Ben was/is/will be responsible for the genocide of the Dharmans? I assume not, but I can’t remember that part of the story from seasons past.
April 2nd, 2009 at 9:22 am
She did look smoking last night, however.
April 2nd, 2009 at 9:25 am
Yeah, I hate Kate episodes. Especially because whenever she’s involved she completely neuters Jack’s character, who I find to be the most interesting character on the show (yes, I know most people despise Jack). It’d probably help if they had a stronger actress in the Kate role. She reminds me of Katie Holmes in Batman Begins, just not on the same level as the people around her.
April 2nd, 2009 at 9:26 am
Thanks for link Bsanders…pretty funny.
April 2nd, 2009 at 9:27 am
Ay, brother.
April 2nd, 2009 at 9:27 am
We all hate Kate, but was banging last night with the long hair and heels.
Something you want to tell us TBL?
April 2nd, 2009 at 9:29 am
Maybe we’ll see Desmond next week, the previews showed Ben confronting someone at the docks, so we’ll see what he did before he got on the plane.
April 2nd, 2009 at 9:30 am
@ Mike, yes she did
@ Jimmy, of course I don’t know…but yes it is def happening, hence the ‘Ben being judged, and him breaking the rules.’
@ Roeth, Some Miles stories are coming, the producers said in a podcast that we will find out some answers about him and the 3.2 mil he needs.
April 2nd, 2009 at 9:30 am
So Claire is alive? Thought she was dead?)
Pretty sure Kate was selling BS, but Claire’s supposed death wasn’t really fawned over like a lot of the other characters. I always thought that was strange.
Kate sucks. Jack sucks. Please give us a Locke episode next week.
April 2nd, 2009 at 9:32 am
“I’m a little concerned,” first lady Michelle Obama was overheard saying at a fundraising event Tuesday. “When Firefly was canceled, he walked around like a zombie for a week, and Serenity was the only thing that snapped him out of it. Last night he said he felt like he had just discovered David Axelrod was one of the Final Five, whatever that means.”
April 2nd, 2009 at 9:32 am
Jack went back because he was supposed to. He is the Jesus character. Ultimately, he is going to be the hero character. Jack’s story is the most interesting, and is heading in the right direction. There was a long time where he got real weak, but it is good now.
April 2nd, 2009 at 9:33 am
Claire never died, she just starting seeing Christian Shepherd and started following him like she was in a trance..
April 2nd, 2009 at 9:35 am
I think she is dead due to a house collapsing on her ass. I think she was just a ghost or something. Remember Miles was acting all weird towards her after the spolsion?
April 2nd, 2009 at 9:36 am
Hurley had a red shirt? Not good.
I like Jack, he’s the only character thats maintained a backbone for the entire series (for better/worse).
April 2nd, 2009 at 9:37 am
I think Locke’s letter profoundly changed Jack. He was talking to Kate at some point last night and I remember thinking, he sounds a lot like Locke right now.
April 2nd, 2009 at 9:38 am
The Ben memory erasure issue is most interesting. Have to assume that the Losties bounce pre Ben’s return to Dharmaville and the purge.
April 2nd, 2009 at 9:42 am
how are the people from 1977 going to fight the people in 2007?
April 2nd, 2009 at 9:46 am
I’m sure this was covered in last week’s recap (which I missed), but how does a trained killer like Sayid not make sure lil’ Ben is dead before running off?
April 2nd, 2009 at 9:49 am
b/c if he did that, the show would be over.
April 2nd, 2009 at 9:49 am
I don’t really read Lost stuff on the inet except for here and darkufo, but somewhere other than those two spots I saw something that grabbed my attention. “The War” might not be what one would think a typical war is. It might be a metaphor. For the sake of my enjoyment, I sure hope war means violence.
April 2nd, 2009 at 9:49 am
@ TBL…I would assume that at some point our losties will go from 1977 back to 2007, could be wrong though. Seems like Locke is important to this war, and he is in 2007. Eventually they are all going to meet back up, not sure when. They are all chess pieces being used by Widmore and Ben for the most strategic attack.
Maybe this war repeats itself over and over. Once in the big statue time, once with Dharma and the others, maybe in the future. Time is a tricky thing on this show.
April 2nd, 2009 at 9:52 am
but how does a trained killer like Sayid not make sure lil’ Ben is dead before running off?
haha, I agree with wilhelmreems. Long answer… Sayid missed a kill shot on purpose because Ben had to be shot so he’d be taken to the Others so blah blah blah. I have no clue.
April 2nd, 2009 at 9:57 am
Sayid shot Ben, and he would have died if it weren’t for magic Other power. I don’t think he was aware of that. Plus, Ben grows up, so it wouldn’t matter what he did, Ben wasn’t dying. He could have shot him between the eyes, Ben is going to grow up.
April 2nd, 2009 at 10:01 am
Last night’s episode was typical Lost filler garbage. Soap opera shit with Kate, Jack, and Sawyer that is just painful to watch. All the more painful and hilarious when it is happening while they are carrying a dying child in their arms like it is no big deal. Really really bad episode.
The ending showed some promise, but that’s typical.
April 2nd, 2009 at 10:02 am
But Sayid doesn’t know that. I think him not pumping Ben full of bullets is a pretty big departure from his character. The writers should have shown him trying to shoot Ben multiple times but not being able to because the gun malfunctioned or *something*.
April 2nd, 2009 at 10:04 am
Sawyer’s Baby Mama = Joanie Stubbs. end of story. :>
Last five minutes saved a horrible episode.
April 2nd, 2009 at 10:06 am
I think him not pumping Ben full of bullets is a pretty big departure from his character.
Yeah, you would have thought one in the chest, two in the head would have applied.
All the more painful and hilarious when it is happening while they are carrying a dying child in their arms like it is no big deal.
Yep.
April 2nd, 2009 at 10:07 am
Sayid has proven himself a ruthless killer, but after he shot Young Ben we all saw his remorse. He put his head down and wimpered. The agony of shooting a child ate at him – regardless if it was Ben. And maybe Sayid was still a little fucked up from his LSD excursion earlier in the day?
Loved when Jack refused twice to operate on Young Ben. He’s turning into a man of fate, not the science man he used to be. As someone said on here, he’s starting to sound like Locke. His three years back on the mainland and finally that “suicide” note was what changed Jack.
I’m very curious to see how Juliet, Sawyer and Kate explain giving Young Ben to the Others. This came just as Ben’s father, Roger, seemed to want to reconnect with his boy.
And as TBL’s headline reads, the Miles and Hurley stuff was golden. It was like two message board nerds (like some of us are) bantering back-and-forth about this “what happened, happened” shit. Great stuff.
April 2nd, 2009 at 10:07 am
i have an odd feeling kate might try to be the mother figure in Ben’s life. It’s a stretch, but there was some weird foreshadowing in the episode that made me think she met Roger with that purpose in mind. especially since they show her leaving aaron and actually being upset by it.
April 2nd, 2009 at 10:17 am
This show has two very distinct dichotomies. I love it when it deals with the island and it’s storylines and so forth (Locke, Alpert, Others, Dharma, Desmond, etc.), and I freaking hate it when it’s about Sawyer, Kate, Juliet, Ben, Jack, etc., or the personal storylines. It’s a really bad soap opera in the latter case and it really bores the hell out of me.
April 2nd, 2009 at 10:19 am
Ben obviously returns to camp at some point in order to carry out the purge. It’ll be interesting to see how his return is explained as well as what happens to Kate & Sawyer since they let him get away.
April 2nd, 2009 at 10:19 am
I’m really late to the party, because I literally just finished watching it, but didn’t that grandmother of Aaron seem pretty GILFy to anybody besides me? They only showed her briefly from the neck down, but it looked all right. She also had some quality lips, for a granny.
April 2nd, 2009 at 10:23 am
Ha, exactly.
April 2nd, 2009 at 10:23 am
I think that Claire look alike in the grocery store was actually trying to take Ben. She was walking towards the exit.
Agreed. She was trying to take him away from Kate and coughed up a good excuse when Kate caught her.
April 2nd, 2009 at 10:28 am
do we think the thwarted kidnapper was of any importance to the show? like was it ben trying to get kate to return to the island?
April 2nd, 2009 at 10:33 am
I think the Claire look a like just symbolized how Kate is destined to lose Aaron. She isn’t his, no matter how hard she tries, something is going to happen that he is taken away from her (fate).
That episode was great, it did a lot to advance the plot of the show. Anyone that can’t see that, and think it was just soapy, that is just silly.
April 2nd, 2009 at 10:40 am
jacks going back to confront his father
April 2nd, 2009 at 10:46 am
Also, is it just me or has Hurley gotten just insanely huge this season? Like when he is wearing that Dharma gear, he looks like he is pushing 400 lbs. Like he’d be on Jerry Springer. Yikes.
April 2nd, 2009 at 11:08 am
Where the hell is Faraday?
April 2nd, 2009 at 11:12 am
In the episodes that matter.

Back when Locke and company flashed to the 50’s (Jughead), didn’t Locke say something to Richard about Jacob, and Richard either acted like he didn’t know who that was or really didn’t know what that meant? Probably was playing dumb though. Wondering how that fits in to the Temple and all. I’m guessing we’ll get more info about that before the year is over.
Faraday is off working on the Orchid station area during this time or whatever it is, if you recall from one of the earlier episodes this season, they showed him down there running into the Dharma video guy when they found the “Donkey wheel”/energy/time travel whatever it was while building the Orchid. Didn’t that guy Caesar find some of his notes or something in the Hydra station too?
April 2nd, 2009 at 1:30 pm
Faraday in the Orchid, I believe, was the opening scene in this season’s first episode.
Caeser did find some time travel/space-time notes in that run-down station (was it Hydra?) after Ajira 316 crashed. I don’t recall if they were Faraday’s, but I do know Faraday kept that notebook (from his Oxford physics days) in his bag. They showed him on a few occassions flipping through it and I remember that one time it said, “If anything bad ever happens, Desmond Hume is my constant.”

Messed up my reply above, tried to quote, screwed that up…
April 2nd, 2009 at 3:55 pm
Is it possible that Ben’s memory doesn’t get erased? That he knows so much about the 815ers because he remembered them and knew they were coming in 2007, but just didn’t tell them that?
