Plaxico Done with the Giants, Iverson Done with the Pistons
1-liner, NBA, NFL April 3rd. 2009, 6:39pmPlaxico and Iverson: While we were away from our computer in the last few hours, the Giants released Plaxico and the Pistons said Allen Iverson’s done for the season with a sore back. Likely story, Dumars. Less than 24 hours later, Iverson said, “I’m in a position now that I’ve never been in my whole life. It’s harder than I thought it would be. With the back injury, I have to sit out at the start, then go in, then sit again. It’s tough to really get going. I take my hat off to the guys who can come off the bench and be effective. It’s tough for me. I’m struggling with it. I’d rather retire before I do this again.”

Plaxico gets half a line and Iverson gets a whole paragraph.
That seems to make sense. One guy caught a championship winning TD pass to beat an unbeaten team 15 months ago and one guy has barely played this season.
I’m shocked the Giants released Plaxico without trading for a number one reciever. Any leverage they had is now gone. If they try to make a move for Edwards or Boldin, those teams are going to ask for a ton and can sit and wait.

Come on, you know basketball outranks football in TBL-dom.

You know, I understand why Dumars made the move, to clear up the cap space. But how can AI really wonder why people make him out to be a dick all the time? I don’t give a shit if he doesn’t like coming off the bench-if he was really concerned about being a team player and doing whatever it takes to win, then he’d keep his mouth shut and play. It’s no surprise that the guy hasn’t won anything. I love the way that he’s played his career, but he’s done a lot of stuff to make himself look like shit.

Or, you know, maybe it’s because one person is playing a sport that’s in progress, and the other person’s sport doesn’t have a game until September (not to mention that plexiglass being cut is hardly unexpected).
/doesn’t give a damn about american football until august

Next time you blow your nose, go ahead and pin a rose on it, too.

SpartanFan-it’s about to get really ugly in Detroit. I think Sheed is going to retire, not that they would re-sign him. That is two huge roster spots gone. McDyess is probably gone as well. Detroit enters with these guys Stuckey, Prince, Hamilton, Maxiel, Affallo and Amir Johnson. Not good.

The nerve of AI to actually want to play when he could just sit back and collect a paycheck. I don’t know why he won’t just sit back and accept playing behind players he’s better than.

he might be better than those players one on one but in case you havent noticed he does not play well when he isnt the only one chucking up shots.

I still stand by the Iverson move 100 percent. Dumars will never be fired, so he has the freedom to plan four to five years ahead.
We are clearly drifting into the LeBron era in the East, whatever team he plays for. The Pistons will not be able to compete unless they get one of those big pieces in 2010. Shedding Billups’ contract alone was worth it. It was worth taking the risk to see if the Iverson thing panned out.
The bottom line, as I’m sure Dumars realized, was that that team was not good enough to win the title. Lesser GMs would have sent them for a comfortable, but assured second round exit.

Sparty-It is gonna be ugly for awhile-especially if we don’t get one of those free agents. At the same time, I’m going to be glad to see some guys (Rasheed) go. He’s done alot for the franchise, we wouldn’t have won the title without him, but his time has come.

tyduffy-i agree with the logic of Dumars, but those big names aren’t heading to Detroit. Name me one BIG name FA that went to Auburn Hills. Rememember, even hometown boy Chris Webber said no when he was one of the best in the league.
The Pistons have built both of their championship eras through the draft and trades, and low-profile FA signings. They have never hit the jackpot.
