Da Bears: Pass on Plaxico or Pursue Him?
NFL April 8th. 2009, 4:00pm
Rashied Davis. Devin Aromashodu. Earl Bennett. Brandon Rideau. John Broussard. Those are the Bears WRs going into this season, minus Devin Hester, the only name in that motley fleet that you’d recognize (but still not a No. 1 receiver). Before anointing Chicago the NFC North champs, ask yourself whether or not these guys (total NFL TD catches: six) are going to be enough to help Jay Cutler get to the playoffs.
The first name to be tossed into the mix: recently-released Giants star Plaxico Burress. Worth the trouble? Other names worth considering: ancient Torry Holt, annoying Chad Johnson, plodding Amani Toomer, strange Marvin Harrison, and a couple former Jacksonville druggies, Matt Jones and Reggie Williams.
Next move: Plaxico (Sun-Times)

Brandon Rideau will be a star, I tell you.
I haven’t been following this story much… how many games is Plax likely to get? And I thought jail was almost a certainty.
April 8th, 2009 at 4:10 pm
Fuck it. Get that bitch. Torry Holt too.
April 8th, 2009 at 4:11 pm
Ill take Matt Jones too.
April 8th, 2009 at 4:11 pm

browns will trade braylon to da bears…i was reading earlier today BEasy want fitzgerald money (contract is up after this season)
April 8th, 2009 at 4:14 pm
pass. you don’t know if he will be able to play this season (or next).
April 8th, 2009 at 4:15 pm
I’d take Torry Holt as a solid, if old, #1 on the opposite side of Hester with Olsen and Clark filling the seam.
April 8th, 2009 at 4:15 pm
Why not?
April 8th, 2009 at 4:16 pm
He is delusional.
April 8th, 2009 at 4:16 pm
It all depends on his jail sentence and how many games Goodell suspends him for. If he can play more than half the season I say it is an excellent pickup.
@mmonast – I am hoping the Giants can nab Edwards. It probably won’t happen and they will draft Hakeeem Nicks.
April 8th, 2009 at 4:19 pm
Just trade the rest of this year’s picks for Anquan, since it’s pretty much fact that Angelo will fuck them up anyway.
April 8th, 2009 at 4:19 pm
very much so
G Men offered a 1st and a 5th and i think the browns want a 1st and a 3rd at least
April 8th, 2009 at 4:20 pm

shouldnt the browns just let him go for a 5th round pick? i mean they could draft god and that team would still be horrible. at least if they fuck up a measly 5th rounder no one would notice.
April 8th, 2009 at 4:33 pm
I don’t know if the Bears really need someone of Plax’s dimensions. Cutler has a more accurate arm than Eli, so you don’t need a skyscraper to catch all his passes thrown two feet too high. I guess it depends on how confident the Bears are that their secondary will bounce back this season. If so, sign Holt and try and win now. If not, take one of the many receiving options in this year’s draft with your second rounder.
April 8th, 2009 at 4:34 pm
bsanders where you been?
April 8th, 2009 at 4:34 pm
Personally, I’d trade down and grab Satan and the Grim Reaper in the middle rounds. Maybe try and claim a warlock or two on waivers.
April 8th, 2009 at 4:35 pm

Daniel Cabrera. Guys throws at everyone. Glad he’s out of the AL. From Sportsline:
Cantu left shortly after getting hit in the left hand by a Cabrera offering in the fifth. X-rays were negative.

Side note- Since they were mentioned in back to back posts, Josh Pastner and John Broussard went to the same High School. Kingwood High School in Kingwood, TX.
