Anaheim Angels Pitcher Nick Adenhart Killed in Car Accident
Baseball, Death April 9th. 2009, 11:16am
“TMZ has learned Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Nick Adenhart was killed in a felony hit-and-run car accident in Fullerton, California early this morning — hours after he pitched in a game last night. Cops say someone driving a minivan blew through a red light, causing the Mitsubishi that Adenhart was riding in to hit a light pole. Three people were killed in the crash, including Nick.” (TMZ)
More can be found here. Adenhart pitched six scoreless innings last night in only his fourth career start.

I’m sure the major outlets are trying to confirm it first themselves, and TMZ.com doesn’t exactly qualify as a legitimate source.
They don’t want to have a PFT/Bradshaw moment on their hands, I’m sure.
April 9th, 2009 at 11:29 am

also, the major outlets can’t really do anything without the AP story.
i suppose they could put up one re-written paragraph of the TMZ story. but i guess it’s on the radio or being talked about somewhere, because he’s already at the top of google trends

They usually go to break immediately following these kinds of stories, no outro music, just shuffling their papers solemnly. Then they go back to telling each other which female intern jerked them off the night before.

Ok, this is f’d up. I picked him up for one of my fantasy teams this morning. Apparently, he was already dead. I also had Kile on my team when he died, and had Lidle on my team the year he died.
Nobody wants to be on my fantasy teams.

One of my first thoughts: “odd to see a pro athlete be the victim of a DUI fatality, and not the perp.”
April 10th, 2009 at 1:13 am
Joba wishes he was just wasn’t hurt. This is what happens with DUIs. Other people suffer. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family and to the Anaheim organization. I have lost a best friends (all teammates in parts of my life) to gettin hit by a car, bad blood transfusion, and a driver who was drunk and my friend being thrown from the vehicle. Can’t explain any of it but none of them were older than 30 (tainted blood) and it is very difficult to deal with when it happens suddenely.
