Report: Isiah Thomas Close to Taking Coaching Job at Florida International University
College Basketball April 13th. 2009, 5:15pm
From the Big Apple to the Sun Belt, with (maybe) a pit stop at the psych ward in between. In what Marv Albert would eloquently call a “stunning turn of events,” Fox Sports is reporting that the Hall of Fame point guard is close to accepting the head coaching job at Florida International University.
Hmmm. Is this his agent’s way of saying, “Last call to any NBA owners thinking of hiring Isiah.” From coaching the Knicks to coaching in the Sun Belt? Would Thomas deign to take such a lowly job?

First class player on the court, yet first class jerk always off the court. I said that back in his days with the Pistons and not much has changed with this jerk. Like this news comes as some sort of surprise and was not due years ago!
Has there ever been a guy with a more friendly face and smile that turned out to be a bigger jerk at the core? I’m all ears for other candidates.

So, FIU will be bankrupt in 2 years, right?
All joking aside, Issiah is a pretty decent judge of talent draft wise, he just doesn’t have any concept of getting value for your draft position (and he sucks at free agent evaluation). The best place for him would be a scout for a team with the main focus on identifying potential diamonds in the rough for second round choices/free agent pickups.

other than T-Mac, what great picks has he made?
And early on, i sadly admit that i thought he was doing some good things with the knicks (GM days)

Wilbon just said that Ray Allen was just trying to get up, no elbow was thrown. Wilbon shouldn’t be allowed to talk on TV for at least a week for that.

People say the same thing about Mickeltits.

+1 Mak
Wilbon and all others ought to be ashamed if he said that about Ray Allen. That’s akin to that jerk at Houston in college ball saying he did not know he was stepping on a guy’s face, high-fiving his teammates, and then “apologising” for it. It’s easy for such onlookers to say it looks like it was an accident when you are not the one getting decked or seeing it a few feet away along with the grunts of pain.
I wonder if this is not Wilbon’s real opinion and he just said it to shill for that show? I would not put that stuff past those two who can pull off such a great April Fool’s act.

He said he knows Jesus, and Jesus wouldn’t do that.

hours late .. but Stoudamire was a star at Arizona. Camby was a POY, i believe. Lee was a highly-routed recruit going into FLa. Frye was a stud at ARizona. it’s not like any of these guys were diamonds in the rough – like tmac.
