Matt Millen To ESPN
ESPN, NFL April 19th. 2009, 1:30pm
Yesterday, in the midst of a banner day at Deadspin, AJ took time out from his usual weekend activities to report that Matt Millen will fill the vacancy left by Emmitt Smith on Monday Night Countdown. Why would they want someone who most recently ran Ty Duffy’s favorite football franchise into the ground? Who knows, but they do.
Millen’s stint with the Lions was memorable if nothing else. Detroit won’t soon forget.
Millen did a decent job on NBC last year after his time with the Lions was done. It’s always fascinating when people seem so knowledgeable, yet, aren’t. You need to be able to apply that knowledge to the real world. I guess as long as Millen isn’t in charge of anything he’ll be fine.

When did Matt Millen play for the Cowboys? I thought that was a mandatory requirement to be an ESPN football analyst

CRM, before his work with the Lions, you remember that Millen was a play-by-play guy at CBS right? As I remember he was above average as a play-by-play guy.
Shortly after the move to the Lions everything went downhill and Millen was exposed as a poor sports manager. Furthermore in this overdue age of blogs and the internet to expose all the crap like we were fed by ivory tower types in Manhattan for too long, and like many media types before the mass (not just techie so shutup you dudes out there) use of Youtube ~2005, Millen is exposed as not a good studio analyst like most of his peers anymore if not always before too.
Millen will probably suck on MNF Countdown, which already sucks major ass anyway as does the whole MNF operation on ESPN, but he would be good again as a play-by-play guy on Fox or CBS. For now work is work.

The rest of the PFT story was interesting too. Especially the part where they mention that Mr. Mackey (John Clayton) may be out because they are presumably grooming Schefter to replace Mort.

Wow, an ESPN move that makes sense. Nah, it won’t happen.
