Pirates 7, Marlins 4: The Pirates sweep. Brothers LaRoche combined for five hits and 3 RBI and Pittsburgh is 9-6, off to their best start since 2002. Matt Capps got his fifth save of the year and has yet to give up a run. However, Dave Littlefield is sorley missed at PNC Park, and so is painfully suave lifeguard Jason Bay.

Blue Jays 8, Rangers 7: B.J. Ryan has already blown two saves this year (including one last night) and his fastball is only topping out at 86 mph, but Toronto keeps winning. Last night it was Kevin Millar’s double off Darren O’Day in the bottom of the 11th. A stat that might help Toronto sound more legit: They’re 20 games over .500 with a record of 60-40 since Cito took over.

Yankees 9, A’s 7: Among the five home runs hit at Yankee Stadium yesterday, four came from slugging behemoths Kurt Suzuki, Derek Jeter and Melky Cabrera, who had two; his second being a walk-off two-run shot in the bottom of the 14th. CC was a sloppy mess (6 ER), coughing up leads three different times.

Brewers 3, Phillies 1: Braden Looper shut out the Phillies for six innings. That’s three straight great starts from Looper, who’s now 2-0 with a 2.12 ERA. If you currently have this expression, you’re not alone.

Red Sox 10, Twins 1; Red Sox 7, Twins 3: Boston was all over the Twins in the doubleheader with Tim Wakefield and Brad Penny picking up the wins. Big Papi is still without a home run, which will no doubt come against the Yankees this weekend.

Royals 2, Indians 0: Brian Bannister got the call from AAA and outdueled Cliff Lee. You may now pick him up off the waiver wire.

Giants 1, Padres 0: Bengie Molina’s pinch-hit double in bottom of the 10th won it for the Giants. A completely incoherent conference call with all five of his brothers surely followed.
