Rockies 12, Padres 7: Rockies rookie center fielder Dexter Fowler stole five bases, seemingly taking off the second he reached base each time. Believe it or not, that’s not a team record. Eric Young, who’s now dazzling us as an analyst on Baseball Tonight, owns the record with six.

Red Sox 3, Indians 1: Jason Bay is quickly becoming Mr. Clutch for Boston. Manny’s albino replacement hit a 3-run shot off closer Kerry Wood, his second huge ninth inning homer in four games. Papelbon worked a shaky ninth to pick up the save, making it 11 straight for the Sox. Toronto’s run in first place is officially over.

Phillies 13, Nationals 11: Shairon Martis vs. Joe Blanton never exactly screamed pitcher’s duel anyway. Ryan Zimmerman, Elijah Dukes, Nick Johnson and Adam Dunn all homered for Washington, while Ryan Howard and Raúl Ibañez hit grand slams, the latter putting the Phils up for good. Bad words to read for Philly fans and fantasy owners: Brad Lidge’s knee.

Rays 7, Twins 1: Carlos Peña (2-for-4, triple, HR, 3 RBI) continues to carry the load for Tampa and Dave Chappelle’s little brother continues to be a mess. He’s on a 1-for-20 skid and was picked off first base.

Tigers 4, Yankees 2: Justin Verlander had given up a total of 12 runs in his last two starts but fortunately for him, the Yankees were in town. He went seven innings and struck out nine, looking a lot like he did back in the 2006 playoffs. CC went eight innings, his lone bad frame coming in the sixth, when Curtis Granderson’s bunt single kickstarted a four-run inning.

Brewers 10, Pirates 5: Trevor Hoffman worked a perfect ninth in his first appearance as a Brewer. Ryan Braun went yard for the 5th time, causing Bernie Brewer to cop a feel.

Royals 7, Blue Jays 1: Brian Bannister is 2-0 with 0.69 ERA since being called up from AAA.

Giants 5, Dodgers 4: Anything could’ve happened in this game because all we know is Barry Bonds was there!
