Yardwork: Stealing Everything
Baseball April 28th. 2009, 11:45am
Rockies 12, Padres 7: Rockies rookie center fielder Dexter Fowler stole five bases, seemingly taking off the second he reached base each time. Believe it or not, that’s not a team record. Eric Young, who’s now dazzling us as an analyst on Baseball Tonight, owns the record with six.
Red Sox 3, Indians 1: Jason Bay is quickly becoming Mr. Clutch for Boston. Manny’s albino replacement hit a 3-run shot off closer Kerry Wood, his second huge ninth inning homer in four games. Papelbon worked a shaky ninth to pick up the save, making it 11 straight for the Sox. Toronto’s run in first place is officially over.
Phillies 13, Nationals 11: Shairon Martis vs. Joe Blanton never exactly screamed pitcher’s duel anyway. Ryan Zimmerman, Elijah Dukes, Nick Johnson and Adam Dunn all homered for Washington, while Ryan Howard and Raúl Ibañez hit grand slams, the latter putting the Phils up for good. Bad words to read for Philly fans and fantasy owners: Brad Lidge’s knee.
Rays 7, Twins 1: Carlos Peña (2-for-4, triple, HR, 3 RBI) continues to carry the load for Tampa and Dave Chappelle’s little brother continues to be a mess. He’s on a 1-for-20 skid and was picked off first base.
Tigers 4, Yankees 2: Justin Verlander had given up a total of 12 runs in his last two starts but fortunately for him, the Yankees were in town. He went seven innings and struck out nine, looking a lot like he did back in the 2006 playoffs. CC went eight innings, his lone bad frame coming in the sixth, when Curtis Granderson’s bunt single kickstarted a four-run inning.
Brewers 10, Pirates 5: Trevor Hoffman worked a perfect ninth in his first appearance as a Brewer. Ryan Braun went yard for the 5th time, causing Bernie Brewer to cop a feel.
Royals 7, Blue Jays 1: Brian Bannister is 2-0 with 0.69 ERA since being called up from AAA.
Giants 5, Dodgers 4: Anything could’ve happened in this game because all we know is Barry Bonds was there!

“There’s a lot more interesting stuff going on right now,†he said. “They should have something else on the cover. Playoff basketball or something else.
“So it’s a mistake. They’ll probably sell their least amount of magazines in a long time — except when NASCAR was on the cover.€
Zach Greinke on being on this week’s cover of SI.

That’s awesome, Greinke with a massive ego.

BJ Upton needs to wake up

Self deprecating humor + shot at NASCAR = awesome.

Right up there w/ Royals legend George Brett, talking about his hemorrhoids: “All of my problems are behind me.€

causing Bernie Brewer to cop a feel
what is wrong with the other woman in the pic?

For starters, the fanny pack and that Rangers jersey.

Hope you stuck with Justin like I told you to, Hernia! He really had it all working last night.
CC was good, but not good enough.
Tigers win + Indians and Twins lose = awesome night.

Greinke has been a beast this year. 4-0, 0.00 ERA, and a 6-1 k-bb ratio.
April 28th, 2009 at 12:08 pm
HA, I did actually, so I at least got something out of the game.

You think Greinke is going to be able to handle the national coverage?
April 28th, 2009 at 12:11 pm
CC – I was there last night, sitting in the section directly behind home plate – Verlander was dealing – nice to see. It got a little uneasy in the 9th with Rodney on the hill, though.
April 28th, 2009 at 12:11 pm
Greinke is everything they thought he would be coming out of the minors. glad to see he has battled through his personal demons and is doing what he loves most as well as he is.
April 28th, 2009 at 12:18 pm
tkmsu – awesome that you got to see Justin. i went on 4/13 against the Shit Sox and had to suffer through a loss with Miner starting. Miner was dealing minor league stuff.
Fernando has had two rocky outings in in the last week. but he has not blown a lead yet. that 5-4-3 double play in the 9th inning saved his ass. what a turn by Inge and Polanco.

Freakin’ Posada.
April 28th, 2009 at 12:21 pm
These are the Royals. There won’t be any national coverage.

SI Cover, Triston.
April 28th, 2009 at 12:26 pm
TSH- did you hear Cone say it was posada’s old legs? i’m sorry, watching the replay it looked like he just figured he was getting doubled up no matter what and didn’t even try to run hard. kills me when i watch guys turn their head to see where the ball is. run it out!!!
April 28th, 2009 at 12:27 pm
That double play was huge. That could’ve gotten really ugly. 5 pitches in Rodney had already given up a run and had runners on 1st and 3rd with no outs.
April 28th, 2009 at 12:28 pm
SI Cover isn’t what it used to be. When ESPN, and Fox start televising games he’s starting. Then I’ll believe there’s coverage. I’m still pissed his scoreless innings streak was broke by 2 bad throws on 1 play.

Point taken. I guess they’d have to be on a national telecast since no one reads SI anymore.

I guess they’d have to be on a national telecast since no one reads SI anymore..
Well, they’d have to play either the Sawx or Yankees on a Saturday to play on Fox.
April 28th, 2009 at 12:38 pm
YES, terrible. He didn’t bust it there at all.
April 28th, 2009 at 12:59 pm
Do the Marlins have a 10 game lead over the Phillies yet?
April 28th, 2009 at 1:05 pm
+1 powder
April 28th, 2009 at 1:46 pm
