Another Night, Another Point Guard Elimination
NBA April 29th. 2009, 6:43pm
Monday the NBA playoffs lost Deron Williams. Tuesday, Tony Parker bit the dust. Tonight, will it be ciao, Chris Paul? The Nuggets are only 10.5 point favorites after blitzing the Hornets in New Orleans Monday by 58. If Paul can’t energize the lifeless Hornets, the NBA’s top four assist leaders will have all been jettisoned from the playoffs, and only four will remain (Kidd, Rondo, Wade, James). Two of those guys aren’t even point guards.
Also, Atlanta hosts Miami in a series tied at two.

This was entertaining. Three of the top 10 are from the Pac-10, and 6 Pac-10 teams get mentioned. No other conference has more than 2. Just sayin’.
Favorite part of the article (Pac-10 superiority aside) was the Florida bit:
April 29th, 2009 at 7:04 pm
Shane Matthews?
Star.
April 29th, 2009 at 7:07 pm
In my senior government class our teacher had us write a letter to ourselves that he would send back to us in 5 years. My parents just told me it came in the mail, can’t wait to read that drivel.
April 29th, 2009 at 7:09 pm
But Cass, those pac 10 qb’s didn’t have to go up against SEC defenses!
April 29th, 2009 at 7:10 pm
Purdue should be ahead of almost half the teams on that list (Nebraska, florida, Florida State, Oregon, Washington) and it’s 50/50 on Michigan and BYU. One great guy and 5 complete stiffs do not equal a couple real good ones and all who were servicible.
Also, if Len Dawson and Mike Phipps counted (as they said), they would have easily made it.

Hey sponge. Post that thing so we can comment on it. I’ll bet it’s genius.
April 29th, 2009 at 7:14 pm
I know for a fact I go on and on about the girl I was interested in at the time but never got anywhere with, very pathetic.
April 29th, 2009 at 7:14 pm
i sent my first link to TBL today. Hot chick I’ve never seen on a round. It will be my proudest day if he posts her for me.

April 29th, 2009 at 7:16 pm
I thought you were making an argument FOR Purdue…

My mother-in-law just gave my wife a box of stuff she had kept for years, and in it was a letter my wife wrote to her parents during her freshman year in college.
It was so melodramatic and went on and on about the path she will follow in life and in her career. She and I were laughing our asses off at how self-important it sounded.
April 29th, 2009 at 7:19 pm

no, more like Warren moon and the United Nations of stiff QB’s that followed him, as well as Oregon & Fouts
April 29th, 2009 at 7:24 pm
The list was labeled as college + pro success. Clearly the writer wanted to put USC as #1. Miami is clearly #1 if just going by pro success.
April 29th, 2009 at 7:26 pm
Brunell and Chandler both had very good pro careers.
And like the article says, here’s a list of the players who have gone for 300/200 in a game:
Marques Tuiasosopo. And he won a Rose Bowl and was a Heisman finalist.
But no, you’re definitely right. Mike Phipps and his 1:2 TD:INT rate are superior.
April 29th, 2009 at 7:33 pm
what about MIchigan – Brady and Griese?
Tennessee? Tee Martin, Erik Ainge and that Manning guy? Andy Kelly was decent, too
April 29th, 2009 at 7:34 pm
Also, can’t ignore the fact that all those Purdue QB’s have won a combined 0 Rose Bowls.
April 29th, 2009 at 7:37 pm

I think if you you look at his, the immortal Sonny Sixkiller, Brock Huard, Steve Pelleur, and Cary Conklin’s career NFL stats, that 300/200 figure probably looks pretty good. None of them did shit in the NFL.
re: Rose Bowls:
That has more to do with Michigan and Ohio State having better teams than Purdue having better QB’s , but you’re right, being a great QB means you have to have won the Big game

any loser mets fans in the house?
wtf is up with every mets fan on the planet calling the radio today saying wright is a bust and sucks and should be gone. REALLY??????
i suppose if Greinke can be THE BEST PITCHER IN BASEBALL based on four starts, david wright can be garbage due to 20 bad games.
April 29th, 2009 at 7:41 pm
Hey, what’s Obama speaking on tonight?
April 29th, 2009 at 7:41 pm
But the non-Brees Purdue guys did? I’d take you seriously if you would actually show where your guys are good, rather than trashing the UW guys. But you can’t do it, because as the UW/Purdue comparison goes, there is no comparison.
April 29th, 2009 at 7:41 pm
wtf is up with every mets fan on the planet calling the radio today saying wright is a bust and sucks and should be gone. REALLY??????
I guess if you strike out 50% of the time and bang doodes (allegedly), your popularity wanes a little bit
April 29th, 2009 at 7:43 pm
Also has something to do with Brees getting there, and losing to UW and Player of the Game Marques Tuiasosopo.
April 29th, 2009 at 7:51 pm
Oklahoma being mentioned is beyond insulting. Current success would be Purdue, USC, and BC.

I don’t know why I’m bothering w/ this, because discusing things with you is like dueling with a one-armed man, but here goes…
Danielson: played for 11 years/started 60 games/13,764 yards. decent career for a mostly back-up
http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/D/DaniGa00.htm
Jim Everett: 11 years/started 153 games/34,837 yards/5 playoff games (one conference championship)

Kyle Orton: 3 years in league/33 games started/5,319 yards
http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/O/OrtoKy00.htm
should I go on? Also, Curtis Painter got drafted by the Colts last week, so another QB is in the league

Clown, I will not have you running Steven’s name through the mud. He’s a confirmed marijuana smoker, assaulter, reckless driver, hit and runner, nursing home crash into-er and “extreme” DUI-er, but he is not a rapist. He’s an alleged rapist.

Thats what makes it relevant. How many players should have been in jail instead of playing in the game?

nah. the yankees? in april? who cares. they’ll be fine. sometimes, it’s fun to pick a point and dig your heels in for a good, solid discussion.
moderated, jpq. watching 90210 from last night that i missed as a warmup to lost
April 29th, 2009 at 8:28 pm
LSU has Russell, Rohan Davey, Matt Mauck, and Josh Booty, all get drafted by NFL teams. Tell me that’s not QB U. Russell started more games last year than all the big 12 QB’s combine. think about that…
April 29th, 2009 at 8:28 pm
Awwwwwwwwww….. Dwyane Wade is hurt. Boo fucking hoo. You flop every time you go to the hole and usually get every call to get to the line. Now you took a legit shot, fans are booing, and you and the TNT broadcasters are wondering why. Uhh… DUH.
April 29th, 2009 at 8:30 pm
TBL – YOU JACKED FOR LOST TONIGHT?!?! AS YOU CAN TELL BY MY CAPS LOCK, I AM!
April 29th, 2009 at 8:37 pm
it’s fun to pick a point and dig your heels in for a good, solid discussion. TBL
Agreed on that. Rain delay is over it will be interesting to see how Greinke handles this attention.
April 29th, 2009 at 8:38 pm
Ndub – As am I. Bonus points… it is a Sawyer episode. Hopefully, a re-reformed Sawyer.
April 29th, 2009 at 8:39 pm
I am excited about tonight’s episode. It sounds like it should be a good one.
April 29th, 2009 at 8:41 pm
fuckin right on lost. im pumped. and a sawyer episode? fucking sweet.
April 29th, 2009 at 8:42 pm
yes. eager for lost. remember, im the guy who said that if hurley and miles played checkers for an entire episode, i’d still rave about the shit.
my entire wednesday schedule revolves around the show. loser? damn right.
April 29th, 2009 at 8:42 pm
I think we’ll get some Faraday, too. Figure out where the hell he was from 74-77 and get some insight into this time travel ish that’s thrown us all into a loop (no pun intended).
April 29th, 2009 at 8:45 pm
Because you are incapable of looking at both sides of the issue at once. Ok so you named two guys who had good pro careers, but they’re not any better than Brunell’s (15 years, 32000 yards, 1 AFC Championship appearance) and Chandler’s (17 years, 29000 yards, 1 Super Bowl Appearance) were. You’re also not taking into account their college careers, where Washington quarterbacks have won 5 Rose Bowls and 1 National Championship to Purdue’s 0 and 0 since 1970.
April 29th, 2009 at 8:46 pm
How many episdoes of Lost are left this season?
April 29th, 2009 at 8:46 pm
You’ve been calling yourself a loser a lot lately…
April 29th, 2009 at 8:47 pm
KC – I think tonight, next week and then a two-hour season finale.
April 29th, 2009 at 8:51 pm
Hey guys!! Just thought I’d stop by after my recent trip to Mexico and pass along my swine flu to everyone. Enjoy!
April 29th, 2009 at 8:52 pm
Greinke gave up a run. Back to a bust prospect.
April 29th, 2009 at 8:53 pm
Fraud.
April 29th, 2009 at 8:56 pm
Thanks, Ndub.
Greinke did strike out three in the 1st. The kid might have some potential i a couple years.
Sportsgal – Were you really in Mexico? If so, where? And are people really freaking out as bad down there as the media portrays? Also, how were the donkey shows?
April 29th, 2009 at 9:06 pm
I’ve never been a Star Trek or Star Wars fan, but I might give this new Star Trek movie a shot.
And Faraday, “You shouldn’t be here” to Jack probably means “You shouldn’t be here (in 1977 and instead on the island in ‘normal’ time {aka 2007}).”
April 29th, 2009 at 9:10 pm
/fixed
April 29th, 2009 at 9:13 pm
Good call. This episode is sweet so far, of course.
April 29th, 2009 at 9:14 pm
I’m thinking that was the best 10 minutes of Lost of the year. Awesome.
April 29th, 2009 at 9:14 pm
Faraday playing the whistleblower.
April 29th, 2009 at 9:15 pm
Loved the, “I can make time” line to his mom, Eloise, who responded, “if only you could.”
Make time. Get it? Huh, huh? Ha ha.
April 29th, 2009 at 9:17 pm

kneecap looked hurt bad
April 29th, 2009 at 9:20 pm
Hes fine. This games over anyway.
April 29th, 2009 at 9:24 pm
Calling it right now – Dan needs to find Eloise 1977 to give her the help msg so that Eloise 2007 gets it. It’s just like he did with 2004 Hatch Desmond to 2007 On A Boat With Penny Desmond. Remember – that was The Constant. And this is called The Variable, which is the opposite of a constant. Hmm….
April 29th, 2009 at 9:27 pm
Well, it wasn’t The Constant episode but it was in an episode earlier this season. But Dan and Desmond are constants. Dan’s journal said it when he read it during season 4. But i think the way a constant works is that it’s something you can deeply relate to no matter what time in your life.
April 29th, 2009 at 9:28 pm
I’m surprised there were no “first 100 days” references today, TBL.
April 29th, 2009 at 9:28 pm
just got the funniest call: TBD was in cancun for a week. THIS PAST WEEK. just talked to him and he said most of the passengers on the flight home were wearing masks and/or using t-shirts as a mask. he was at some resort and said there wasn’t any panic there.
i may have him blog about this
April 29th, 2009 at 9:28 pm
Holy Shit! Lost is off the hook.

April 29th, 2009 at 9:42 pm
gfunk – no doubt.
April 29th, 2009 at 9:45 pm
Maybe the best episode ever… wow wow wow wow wow
April 29th, 2009 at 9:52 pm
Holy fucking shit what a show.
April 29th, 2009 at 9:55 pm
Maybe, and not particularly surprising since Farady kicks so much ass. The Constant is probably my favorite episode from the middle of a season.
April 29th, 2009 at 9:58 pm
My wife called that one…
April 29th, 2009 at 10:01 pm
FUCK!!! NO WAY
April 29th, 2009 at 10:02 pm
Oh my. Oh my. Oh my. Oh my.
April 29th, 2009 at 10:02 pm
jesus christ. fucking awesome
April 29th, 2009 at 10:03 pm
Just guessing the Bfunk will be slightly unhappy about the latest turn of events… I know I am.
April 29th, 2009 at 10:04 pm
I am pretty shocked right now.
April 29th, 2009 at 10:04 pm
Oh, man. Great episode. However, sad sad. I don’t think there is going to be any Locke-reserrection for this one.
Not much of a Sawyer episde (read that from the KC Star tv guy this morning).
Wow. I have a feeling we need to get used to these types of endings.
April 29th, 2009 at 10:07 pm
I have to say, I can’t imagine getting this jacked up over a TV show.
April 29th, 2009 at 10:08 pm
what the fuck is up with all the bitch slaps in the playoffs?
April 29th, 2009 at 10:09 pm
Sorry, Cosmo. We’ve invested a lot into this show over the seasons and it has a habit of making you come back every week with vague storylines, comments and actions of characters. This one also did that but gave you the rare HOLY SHIT moment and some explanation, so excuse us for being excited.
April 29th, 2009 at 10:13 pm
Here’s my biggest question from the show:
If Faraday’s plan of stopping The Incident from happening, which subsequently stops a chain of events that included O-816 crash onto the island, etc., then what happens to the surviving 815ers who seem to be spread all over the place? Do they warp back to that time in 2004 just as 815 began experiencing turbulence? If so, do they lose all memory of their lives from the crash until The Incident (2004-2007, back ot 1977)? And what about those people on 316 who weren’t 815ers? Ilana, Bram, Ben, etc.
April 29th, 2009 at 10:21 pm
whereabouts?
April 29th, 2009 at 10:26 pm
No worries Ndub. In fact I’ll probably try to watch a few episodes on my laptop this summer, see if I catch the bug.
Speaking of bug, Sportsgal is back, get out the Penicillin!
Just kidding, gal.
April 29th, 2009 at 10:26 pm
ok, just read the comments – indeed, a great, great episode. sad ending. at least 3 mind-blowing moments, but i’ll scroll through my notes (yup, took ‘em) and see if there were more
April 29th, 2009 at 10:30 pm
Cosmo – Definitely start with the pilot. You can’t miss an episode in this series or you’ll be behind in at least one big story line and about 15 minor storylines that will at some point become big ones. But definitely give it a shot. I never watched until Season 4 and was pretty… well, lost. So I watched S1 through S3 online (ABC.com and in HD if you got a boss PC display) as fast as I could to catch up. It was totally worth.
TBL – I, too, took notes. I will gladly accept the nerd tag.
April 29th, 2009 at 10:32 pm
I realize with a show like Lost, the viewer is required to suspend a certain amount of disbelief. I get that. However, that fucking shootout in the OK Corral moment they had was the hokiest bunch of bullshit in the entire 5 seasons of Lost.
/rant’d
April 29th, 2009 at 10:34 pm
“that fucking shootout in the OK Corral moment they had was the hokiest bunch of bullshit in the entire 5 seasons of Lost.”
HA, can’t really aruge there. Felt like Naked Gun they were so close.
April 29th, 2009 at 10:35 pm
Nick – Jack and Kate are fully-trained militants. Haven’t you seen them kick ass and shoot people in the first four seasons?
But I’ll take a hokie three-minute shootout to the remaining 39 minutes of LOST gold.
April 29th, 2009 at 10:37 pm
some performance by joba tonight, huh?
wainwright with a win!
damn bedard
April 29th, 2009 at 10:39 pm
I wonder if Sterling went the “What a joba by Joba!” route tonight.
April 29th, 2009 at 10:39 pm
that shootout wasn’t that bad. the black monster shit, as neat and sci-fi as it was, was much, much worse.
April 29th, 2009 at 10:41 pm
did anyone else see the dunk josh smith just attempted? there are 4 mins left and wide open on the break he tried to put it through his leg – in mid-air – and dunk it. missed.
i’d be surprised if the heat don’t take his head off next time he drives.
April 29th, 2009 at 10:42 pm
What the fuck is a Joba?
/Greinke. 6 innings, 2 runs, 8 Ks, 2 walks, making the Jays looks silly. Rolen just went to the plate knowing he was going to fail.
//It’s on, TBL!
///Just kidding.
////I didn’t get that Lost shootout, either. Knowing Lost, it was probably meant to be horrible. Like with the magnet and bullets and the bullet that appeared to hit Faraday in the shoulder/upper arm really just grazed his neck.
April 29th, 2009 at 10:44 pm
Josh tried to dunk it between his legs and missed. This is a blowout. Not dead team level but close enough.
April 29th, 2009 at 10:44 pm
Hey, here’s something I just thought of. It fucking makes total sense.
Young Faraday’s opening convo with his mother…
Eloise: You have the mind of a scientist and need to focus your time on that and not this (piano).
Dan: I can make time.
Eloise: If only you could.
Middle conversation between 2007 pre-frater Dan and Eloise…
Dan: If I go, will it make you proud?
Eloise: Yes. It would make me proud.
Dan: OK, I’ll go.
2007 Eloise and Widmore just after the former leaves the hospital housing injured Desmond…
Widmore: I don’t talk to my daughter. I had to make that sacrifice.
Eloise: (slaps Widmore) You know nothing of sacrifice.
Final conversation between 2007 Dand and 1977 Eloise in 1977..
Dan (dying after being shot by Eloise): You knew this would happen.
Eloise: (silence, half look of understand/half of confusion)
Dan: (takes final breath and thus he can’t ‘make time’ and is a ’sacrifice’)
FUCKING TREMENDOUS.
April 29th, 2009 at 10:47 pm
I thought she said, “Who are you?”
April 29th, 2009 at 10:48 pm
great episode, can’t wait for the recap tomorrow. now we know how the last 18-20 episodes will turn out, all the losties have to do is finish daniel’s work.
jack still gets left behind though and is actually Ray.
April 29th, 2009 at 10:48 pm
Lost is a perfect title for that show.
April 29th, 2009 at 10:48 pm
It’s also fucked up that Eloise Hawking 1977 now knows that she’ll give birth to a child that she will one day shoot and kill for “sacrifice.”
April 29th, 2009 at 10:49 pm
eloise basically said to widmore that she knew her son would die – but did she know she would shoot him? no way. couldn’t.
im guessing she thought he would die detonating the bomb.
April 29th, 2009 at 10:53 pm
she knew she would kill him. just like Daniel originally thought, there were no variables, only constants.
April 29th, 2009 at 10:53 pm
i dont know, man … i got the impression that farraday was talking tonight like he COULD change the past. and he did. i dont think she’ll give birth to him and then kill him.
i think we’re going toward a path of young eloise getting killed … and im not sure what that would do to old eloise.
April 29th, 2009 at 10:54 pm
She did. But that’s after or before he said I’m your son. Then it was awkward silence before he said “You knew this would happen.”
Maybe she did. She commented to Penny that for the first time in a long time she didn’t know what was going on. Maybe she knew sending Dan back was ultimately to his death, but maybe it was saving the people on the island or something or whatever or yeah.
April 29th, 2009 at 10:58 pm
OK, it’s almost 11. I’m cutting myself off or I’ll be pontificating on message boards and blogs all night. Looking forward to the post tomorrow.
April 29th, 2009 at 11:02 pm
ndub – drop me a late-night email if you stumble across anything. for the first time in 3 nights, i have to get to bed before 12. this 5 hrs, 45 mins of sleep per night is not cutting it
April 29th, 2009 at 11:20 pm
Damn Bedard? He left the game with a 3-1 lead and two on. More like damn Kelly, who came in gave up a double, a sac and two jacks in 1 1/3.
April 30th, 2009 at 1:11 am
