He Arrived in a Whirlwind, and Leaves With a Frown
ESPN, Media Gossip/Musings May 1st. 2009, 3:30pm
Simon on Sports noticed that Stephen A. Smith made an appearance yesterday on First Take, and it may have been his final appearance at ESPN. Today’s his last day. We’ll see you in another life – when we are both cats.

Stephen A. Smith made an appearance yesterday on LAST Take
//just wanted to fix that.
May 1st, 2009 at 3:42 pm
Stephen A. is black. Huff Po via Mike
Stephen A. is a hack.
Him being black is why sports fans dislike him? Really? Fucking idiotic argument.
May 1st, 2009 at 3:43 pm
Don’t forget about DAG. Chocolate News was the shit. Comedy Central is racist.
May 1st, 2009 at 3:48 pm
why? is there some 11th commandment that blacks can’t work for fox?
May 1st, 2009 at 3:49 pm
Bye Bye Bye.
For real though his Philly Inq. column was ok.
May 1st, 2009 at 3:55 pm
The Huffington Post post can fuck the fuck off.
Almost everyone hates Screaming Asshole Smith because he is an obnoxious, over-the-top, self-loving mother fucker. We don’t hate him because he’s black.
Good riddance you fucking prick.
May 1st, 2009 at 3:56 pm
/obviously hates SAS’s schtick
//obviously hates stupid blogs – liberal or consersative
May 1st, 2009 at 3:57 pm
anytime SAS was on tv, my wife (sitting in another room) would ask: “why is that guy yelling again?”
May 1st, 2009 at 4:03 pm
Good for the ol’ lady. Bad for you for watching him.
/I keed, I keed, sort of

I’m black so I think my expert analysis on Stephen A. Smith should carry weight(sarcasm). Ahem, he’s loud and offers nothing else to the table. He was once a good voice to hear about basketball, esp. Philly. But he started to believe his own hype and became and insufferable, screaming madman. Hopefully this humbles him and he comes back a better sportswriter.
May 1st, 2009 at 4:18 pm
I’m generally the most liberal dude in the room, but this is so fucking retarded it makes me ill. Stephen A’s shittiness has nothing to do with him being black. It has everything to do with him screaming for no damn reason.

Who are the most likeable/unlikeable Black people in sports journalism?
May 1st, 2009 at 4:32 pm
I like John Deshazier from the Times-Picayune in Nawlins. Scoop is good, and Whitlock sometimes have good stories, but there are very few in sports period who aren’t former athletes. The ones who suck the most are Jemele Hill and SAS by far.
May 1st, 2009 at 4:33 pm
@Mike NYC – let’s be clear, what you quoted was a comment to the HuffPo article. Not something from the columnist.
May 1st, 2009 at 4:36 pm
Bryan Burwell at the St. Louis Post Dispatch is pretty good.
I’ve never been able to make it beyond the second paragraph of a Scoop column. Whitlock’s act is getting a bit tired. I almost wish he would go back to selling NFL GMs on Jeff George.

In the immortal words of Curly Bill- “Well… bye.”
May 1st, 2009 at 8:25 pm
Someone should ask that cunt from Huffington why we hate Bayless and Lupica even more than Screamin A? Get that shit outta here hosebag. When will idiots learn that when you throw the racecard out unjustly you belittle every black person that’s been a legit victim of it?
May 1st, 2009 at 10:54 pm
People complaining about SAS has almost reached an equal annoyance level with SAS himself. I did think he knew his basketball and was decent when delving into broader cultural topics. I could have done without the screaming, but it was part of the act. Virtually every other commentator who’s made it has their type of act. So I guess I’ll never understand why the vitriol thrown at him on the blogs (I think that comment on the Huffington Post is not that far off… the black people that I do know did like him. I’m not speaking for all African Americans..but it does seem interesting that virtually every white person/blogger hates the guy, yet many blacks like him).
Call it the stereotypical blacks in a theater theory… that white people just don’t like what they perceive to be “loud and emotional.”
May 1st, 2009 at 11:37 pm
I don’t like this douchebag either. Does that also make me a racist?
May 1st, 2009 at 11:49 pm
or they paid to watch a fuckin movie and dont want people hollering all the fucking time whether the people who are yelling are white or black. also he may have had great points but it was hard to hear them over is loud ass voice. you are mistaking emotional with loud somehow. so if you scream any point you had you’re emotional now?
the same reason i hate stephen a. smith is the same reason i hate dick vitale. they are both loud as fuck and i dont like to be yelled at all the time.
May 1st, 2009 at 11:51 pm
that white people just don’t like what they perceive to be “loud and emotional.€
I don’t like this douchebag either. Does that also make me a racist?
Mike:
There were two gay douchebags on the clip. Which one were you referring to?
May 1st, 2009 at 11:53 pm
i think he was counting that two-headed monster as 1.
May 1st, 2009 at 11:56 pm
i think he was counting that two-headed monster as 1.
So I guess he’s not racist, just anti-douchebag

@Makblunt
You said you were black (Can’t tell really), what white sports journalists do you like/respect more than the very few working black ones?
