Which NBA Writer Had LeBron Third in MVP Voting?
NBA May 5th. 2009, 12:00pm
Investigation time! Let’s break down the NBA MVP voting. Of the 121 first-place votes, LeBron collected 109, D Wade seven, Kobe and Chris Paul two apiece, and Dwight Howard one. No major issues so far. Looking further though, LeBron received one third-place vote. Huh?
All LeBron did this year was improve all of his shooting percentages, average 28-7-7 in what some are calling one of the best statistical seasons in NBA history, and his team won 21 more games than the year prior to ring up the best record in the league (completely shattering all of the Vegas over/under line of 48.5). Third place? Really?
So who is the voter who voted LeBron third? A beat writer in LA, perhaps? We can understand voting Wade 1st, but if LeBron isn’t 2nd, who is? Show yourself, Mr. Third Place! We’re curious as to the logic behind this one.

May 5th, 2009 at 12:17 pm
I don’t think Wilbon can vote as a Post employee. He did say recently that his bosses at the Four Letter wanted him to vote in teh awards.
May 5th, 2009 at 12:17 pm
Does LeBatard have a vote? I hear he had Wade as his first and second place vote.
May 5th, 2009 at 12:21 pm
im honored you remembered that toyota story, NGNG.
May 5th, 2009 at 12:22 pm
who cares? it’s not like the 3rd place vote kept him from winning it.

Mo Williams didn’t play on last year’s team, which coincidentally had 21 less wins.
Just sayin’
May 5th, 2009 at 12:37 pm
Haha yeah the great Mo Wililams. He was what the 25th best PG in the NBA until he got to play with LeBron?
May 5th, 2009 at 12:38 pm
Who had him 25th? Mo’s been awesome this year
May 5th, 2009 at 12:39 pm
Nor West for the whole season. NickP swears that his absence was the reason the Lakers blew out the Cavs at the Q.
May 5th, 2009 at 12:40 pm
Sounds like a case for the Most Improved Player award rather than the MVP
May 5th, 2009 at 12:41 pm
Haha yeah the great Mo Wililams. He was what the 25th best PG in the NBA until he got to play with LeBron?
Agreed, but essentially giving up Damon Jones to get an all star point guard is a pretty damn good move by Ferry. When we got him in the off season i did think he was just another guy though…..all in all Lebron makes everybody better, therefore he is your MVP
May 5th, 2009 at 12:44 pm
West is a liability come playoff time when turnovers and lost possessions lose games for your team…..guy tries to make too much happen sometimes. did it last year in game 7 against boston
May 5th, 2009 at 12:45 pm
mrejr8234 has od’d on tom brady in a hat pics. he clicked on jpq’s link as soon as he saw it and his mind and body couldnt handle it. he could not wait until 1:30.
May 5th, 2009 at 12:46 pm
somewhat agree but Mo will/should take pressure off of west to make plays when they are on the floor at the same time
May 5th, 2009 at 12:46 pm
Mo has been great but it says more about how terrible the rest of the team was more than anything. They finally got a guy who can both dribble and shoot consistently. This is the 1st time in LeBrons career he has played with even an average player outside the C position.
May 5th, 2009 at 12:50 pm
Nothing can top Fred “I’m a Crack-Head” Hickman from being the ONLY ONE who didn’t vote for Shaq when he won the MVP !!!
May 5th, 2009 at 12:53 pm
And MJ (Air Jordan) should have At Least 8 regular season MVP awards …
May 5th, 2009 at 12:57 pm
yes
May 5th, 2009 at 1:09 pm
Watch games.
May 5th, 2009 at 1:10 pm
which even shows how amazing it was that they got to the finals against the spurs
May 5th, 2009 at 1:11 pm
Also, to say 21 game improvement is a bit misleading. In reality, it’s more than that, since it came in the much improved Beastern Conference.
He didn’t have 12 layups like Kobe and the rest of the Lesstern Conference teams did.
May 5th, 2009 at 1:13 pm
a peek inside the mind of delonte west
May 5th, 2009 at 1:14 pm
nick its not more or less than 21 games. iwonder if you ar gonna be slobbing all over lebron’s knob when he us playing for the knicks
May 5th, 2009 at 1:15 pm
Only one sub .500 team made the Leastern conference playoffs, in stark contrast to last year’s two.
May 5th, 2009 at 1:16 pm
@clown: True, but when you have a top to bottom gauntlet like the Eastern conference, it’s tough to come out unscathed.
Not every team can play a shitbox every 1/3 game like in the West.
May 5th, 2009 at 1:19 pm
True, but when you have a top to bottom gauntlet like the Eastern conference, it’s tough to come out unscathed.
Maybe im a bit slow, but tell me this is sarcasm?
May 5th, 2009 at 1:20 pm
@PL: It’s not. The East had a better head to head record versus the West this year, and 6 of the 7 worst teams in the Association reside out West.
May 5th, 2009 at 1:21 pm
West is another guy who has flourished because of LeBron. Remember this guy was 3rd string on Ok City last year. He has been a very good player, but he has the Drew Gooden disease. This is where a player makes 3-5 completely unjustified, borderline retarded plays a game. This usually involves a terrible pass or trying to split two defenders that are standing next to eachother.
May 5th, 2009 at 1:24 pm
The MVP award is slowly demonstrating that college is not useful for the development truly elite players. 4 of the last 5 MVP’s did not go to college and the other, Steve Nash, played at the NBA star producing power House of Santa Clara. Is this a trend, or a coincidence.
May 5th, 2009 at 1:26 pm
@dude, no shit, West was pickin splinters outta his ass is Seattle cuz he couldn’t get off the bench on the league’s worst team…ANYONE can flourish under Lebron
May 5th, 2009 at 1:26 pm
except for larry hughes.
May 5th, 2009 at 1:31 pm
True, but the playoffs are proving that the upper echelon of the West is still much better than the East. The Lakers road to the finals will be much, much harder than the Cavaliers. I’m not sure the Cavs would get by the Rockets.
May 5th, 2009 at 1:33 pm
oh psshaw.
May 5th, 2009 at 1:33 pm
Jr. Bremer, David Wesley, Donyell Marshall, Damon Jones, Larry Hughes and Lucious Harris completely disagree with that revisionist history.
May 5th, 2009 at 1:33 pm
The Cavs are the best team in the league. I realize the Rockets played well for one game, but let’s get real here. If the Rockets were so good, their results this season would bear that out.
May 5th, 2009 at 1:34 pm
Spence, trying to drive traffic.
May 5th, 2009 at 1:37 pm
their results this season would bear that out.
They did, in the fact they they played the Lakers and Cavs extremely tough. So they happened to lose those games…that happens, even when you’re not supposed to sometimes. Playoffs are all about matchups and the Rockets match up well with both.
May 5th, 2009 at 1:38 pm
If you read some of LeBrons quotes, it sure doesn’t sound like a guy who hates Northeast Ohio and just can’t wait to leave for someplace better.
May 5th, 2009 at 1:40 pm
The Rockets beating the Lakers in 1 game proves that the West is better? But Orlando beating Boston means nothing? Interesting logic.
May 5th, 2009 at 1:42 pm
@cursed…..many of those guys havent played with lebron this year or even last year….most those guys were old or injury prone. lebron is a different animal this year
May 5th, 2009 at 1:43 pm
Yeah because of the laundry list of MVP press conference in which stars blasted their hometown. It’s normally the opportune venue for such a vitriolic decree.
/don’t believe he’s leaving though. Would you leave Mo Williams? Michael Redd didn’t want to!
May 5th, 2009 at 1:44 pm
Similar to if the Cavs were to be taken seriously, their results against LAL, BOS and ORL during the season would bear that out.
May 5th, 2009 at 1:45 pm
@Cursed: Five or six games don’t make a season. What happened the other 76 games? Houston played the two best teams well, but not the rest of the league? Doesn’t compute.
That’s what I mean by results. I could care less about head-to-head stats in a given season, or the Cavs would already have a ring. (2-0 versus SA in the regular season two years ago)
May 5th, 2009 at 1:45 pm
I’m not trying to present logic, I’m trying to say that in my opinion, even the Utah Jazz or the Spurs would be fairing much better in the Eastern playoffs. What do you think would have happened to the Bulls had they played Houston, LA, or Denver..those series aren’t going 7.
May 5th, 2009 at 1:46 pm
Said the 2007 Golden State Warriors (who did beat Dallas three times in the regular season, by the way..but you get my point).
May 5th, 2009 at 1:47 pm
Clown’s personal 2009 champion: Charlotte Bobcats!
May 5th, 2009 at 1:48 pm
@cursed: True, but of course Dallas wasn’t the best team that year. San Antonio was. (as their point differential would attest)
May 5th, 2009 at 1:52 pm
You have to take better than average teams beating bad teams with a grain of salt. It’s about when the good teams play the other good teams. Everyone knows that NBA players don’t try hard every game. It’s science.
May 5th, 2009 at 2:00 pm
I’m fairly convinced that cursed personal identity is very much determined by being a depressed, beaten down sports fan who roots for losing teams, and secretly he resents LeBron for winning and making him root for a championship caliber team. When they win the title in a month his world view will be irrevocably destroyed.
May 5th, 2009 at 2:01 pm
T-Mac was on the team most of the season. That had to hurt their record.
May 5th, 2009 at 2:07 pm
You might be onto something. I have a Bobby Sura autographed towel.
May 5th, 2009 at 2:10 pm
And furthermore, I’m on record many times as saying LeBron is the best player in the league. But he’s not too big for CursedCleveland.com’s playful jabs. Nobody is!
May 5th, 2009 at 2:12 pm
cursed you werent a Crunch fan?
May 5th, 2009 at 2:15 pm
I was….Hector Marinara was the shit
May 5th, 2009 at 2:19 pm
Never liked Marinaro’s forced bravado. Zoran Karic was a true superstar!
May 5th, 2009 at 2:22 pm
Yeah those teams were great. Dont forget Otto Orf. Best name ever?
May 5th, 2009 at 2:26 pm
Yeah those teams were great. Dont forget Otto Orf. Best name ever?
yup, good guy, great keeper, better name…….attended his camps as a kid.
May 5th, 2009 at 2:28 pm

May 5th, 2009 at 2:30 pm
Nice, same.
May 5th, 2009 at 2:30 pm
the guy was the MVP from 94-2000 he could do whatever he wanted
