Chris Coghlan of the Marlins (seen here with mouth agape) hit his first major league homer this week. The fan who caught the ball at Miller Park, Nick Yohanek, has his own blog. He detailed what went down next: In exchange for the ball, the pushy fan demanded a ball signed by Coghlan, a bat signed by Coghlan and a signed Hanley Ramirez bat. If you feel those demands are extreme, he calls this a “hobby.”

The Marlins tried to get away with just a bat; blogger said no dice. The Marlins team shrink was called in to negotiate. Mr. Blogger was sternly told he would not be receiving a Hanley Ramirez bat. Instead, he asked for tickets to a Marlins-Brewers tickets in June. Then Coghlan appeared, perhaps angry, and said, “You gonna give me my ball or what?”

He wasn’t the most polite or respectful guy about the whole process,” Coghlan said Thursday. “He told me he goes around a lot and catches these balls and holds them for ransom — even though he doesn’t say that he does, it seems that way.”

When Chris Coghlan is flipping burgers at Arby’s in Daytona Beach in 10 years, will this blogger still cling to this hollow victory? And really, is there that much value to Coghlan keeping the exact ball he clubbed out of the park? Why couldn’t the Brewers tell this loser to shove it and give Coghlan whatever ball they could find?

Can’t wait till this clown goes to Wrigley and gets his ass kicked.
