What is Making Kevin Garnett’s Head Swell?
NBA June 5th. 2009, 4:30pm
He embarrassed himself on the sidelines in the Bulls series, consistently dropping F-bombs when the camera was on him. And then there’s this photo of KG classlessly screaming at Ben Gordon following Boston’s lucky game five triumph. For a guy with a checkered history of picking on much smaller competitors, all of this likely vaulted Garnett into exalted status as biggest prick in the NBA.
Clearly, last year’s championship went to his head – the guy boasted this week that Boston will take the title in the next two seasons. What a joke. In his old age, KG’s become as clueless as he is mouthy. Boston’s bench, so impressive in the 2008 NBA FInals, could lose Leon Powe and Big Baby Davis to free agency. The Big Three will be a year older. Orlando’s improved. One can only assume the Cavs will make a splash to appease LeBron. Philadelphia should be better. Charlotte may be on the rise, and with the right draft pick, could become a top six team in the East.
We want to make a bold, ‘no title for Boston in 2010, no way’ but we have to see how the draft and free agency play out. So we’ll say (unscientifically, of course) there’s a 97 percent chance the Celtics don’t capture a title in 2010.

garnett is the man
June 5th, 2009 at 4:41 pm
There is no doubt and no competition when it comes to the biggest prick and mouthiest asshole in the league : Kevin Garnett.
June 5th, 2009 at 4:41 pm
yup he is a douche. a intense douche though.
June 5th, 2009 at 4:43 pm
No chance, zero, nada, no way. Lucky to win it last year, no chance it happens again. I read they were quietly shopping Allen and Rondo.
June 5th, 2009 at 4:44 pm
no way does that team get rid of rondo. allen maybe, rondo no way in hell.
June 5th, 2009 at 4:44 pm
Pierce and Allen where badass in the playoffs this year. They played tough. If Garnett comes back relatively strong, I can see them competing. The Celtics were the only team LA was afraid of this year.
June 5th, 2009 at 4:44 pm
Fuck Boston
June 5th, 2009 at 4:45 pm
Is there any doubt that Garnett would have ended up at Memphis if he went to college? Imagine that guy trying to take the SAT.
June 5th, 2009 at 4:47 pm
Oh that’d be awesome. He’d be screaming and slamming the desk, and cussing out the students around him trying to take the test. I enjoyed picturing that

coop, link?

I’ll say it. NO CHANCE.
You’re like clock work Irish. And it’s freakin’ awesome.

Only after he head-butted the chalkboard 15 times to psych himself up.

coop is a Cavs fan, and is dreaming that they trade Rondo. No chance.
June 5th, 2009 at 4:52 pm
I’ve always been curious as how to Garnett is going to handle life after basketball. He won’t have that outlet any more. Will he go on a rampage and end it all in blaze of glory?
June 5th, 2009 at 4:52 pm
villanueva to the cavs. Sad possibilities.
I like dealing Wallace for Tyson Chandler, and letting NO have the cap relief, and Cleveland gets the defense.
June 5th, 2009 at 4:53 pm
I think you could probably get more for Wallace
June 5th, 2009 at 4:54 pm
“motherfucker what do you fucking mean “times fucking up”?!?!?!?! i aint fucking done takin the god damn test motherfucker butchass hoe ass skanks ass fucking punk motherfucking bitch!”

June 5th, 2009 at 4:54 pm
I just wonder why NO was so willing to dump Chandler off.
June 5th, 2009 at 4:56 pm
Have ya seen New Orleans in the last 5 years? Ehhhh, disposable income, not so much…
June 5th, 2009 at 4:56 pm
every single one of you would take garnett on your team in a flash, and love him if he was on it

Enzyte?
June 5th, 2009 at 4:57 pm
Not sure if thats worse or if Garnett finished early and then started clapping in some poor kids face who still had to finish.
June 5th, 2009 at 4:57 pm
Shawn Bradley’s arms > Garnett’s intensity
June 5th, 2009 at 4:58 pm
The scary thing for Cleveland is, they could blow all their expiring contracts to try and get Lebron some help. If it doesn’t work, and he bails, they won’t have the cap space to rebuild. If they stand pat next year, they’d have a crap load of cap space to work with, whether or not Lebron stays.
June 5th, 2009 at 4:58 pm
Whoa whoa whoa. Where the fuck did this 4:30 on a Friday post come from TBL!?!? I figured I’d do one last check of TBL before I closed up shop for the day and I see this rip-job?!
C’s have another run in em next year. They pushed Orlando to 7 without KG. IF they can stay healthy, they will be right there with the elite teams next year. Especially sice Rondo is poised to make a big leap, and Perkins will be the 2nd best center in conference IMO. Don’t even give me this Philly bullshit.
BTW – No chance of a Rondo trade.
June 5th, 2009 at 4:58 pm
I think you could probably get more for Wallace
mostly just bad contracts. They need interior defenders who can stop Dwight Howard, obviously. Chandler can play D.
New Orleans is trying to get rid of him because they owe him 37 million dollars, and they dont’ have it. They’re in danger of folding. And i’m not joking.
June 5th, 2009 at 4:59 pm
Asked and answered, your honor.

They have no choice. They have to win the title next year, or he’s leaving.
June 5th, 2009 at 5:01 pm
False. Against the Western conference, Cleveland (26-4, .867), Orlando (22-8, .733). They feared both more. And will contend next year since they are improving, while Boston is deteriorating.
June 5th, 2009 at 5:03 pm
they looked terrified last night.
June 5th, 2009 at 5:04 pm
I’d like to see the Cavs make a play for Powe or Davis. At least Davis appeared like he could go against Howard.
June 5th, 2009 at 5:04 pm
Duder, not a fan of my homage to Joe Tait? I just think he needs a better supporing cast!
June 5th, 2009 at 5:04 pm
See? That’s the problem with stats. You can’t factor in the fact that the Celtics punked the shit out of the Lakers last year. What about the fact that the Lakers decisively beat Cleveland both times this year?
June 5th, 2009 at 5:06 pm
this idea of fearing another team is bullshit. huge fucking sports myth.
June 5th, 2009 at 5:08 pm
More like Orlando’s shots were terrified of the basket.
You really don’t think Orl or Cle would give LA more worries than Bos would, assuming they made it to the finals?
June 5th, 2009 at 5:09 pm
@sparty – Except for MSU fearing UM.
ha ha – have a good weekend.
June 5th, 2009 at 5:09 pm
I would rather the Cavs sign Big Baby over Andy. They need their PF to make open jumpers.
June 5th, 2009 at 5:09 pm
KG did the SATs. That’s why he entered the draft.
June 5th, 2009 at 5:09 pm
There was a story this morning that they would be willing to deal rondo with Allen.

June 5th, 2009 at 5:11 pm
Orlando is talented but inexperienced, and Cleveland is a one man team. Say what you will about the Celtics, but they fought harder than any other team and probably got the most out of what was left of their roster.
June 5th, 2009 at 5:11 pm
If you let Kobe choose either the Celtics, Cavs, or Magic as a Finals opponent, he’d choose them in that order, and it has nothing to do with fear. He’d want to make amends for last year first, then beat LeBron, and beating Orlando would finish a distant third to either of those.
June 5th, 2009 at 5:11 pm
anyone in mind cursed? At least tell me youve already gone after Blunderwood and McCloud.
June 5th, 2009 at 5:12 pm
Cleveland could get a combination of Powe and LO/Ariza makes them the favorites. I honestly think this offseason is going to be more interesting than the next one (there’s a novel concept). We’ll know exactly what’s going to happen next year after the postseason.
June 5th, 2009 at 5:14 pm
Kobe, sure. But the rest of the Lakers aren’t like Kobe. Also, let me reword it. No one is “afraid” of another team, but after what happened last year, you don’t think the Celtics were in the heads of the Lakers this year?
June 5th, 2009 at 5:16 pm
My hate of AV will never end.
June 5th, 2009 at 5:19 pm
Biggest prick in the NBA – Kevin Garnett
Biggest prick in the NBA – Santonio Holmes
June 5th, 2009 at 5:20 pm
Still doesn’t solve the lack of inside presence offensivelly, or defensively for that matter.
June 5th, 2009 at 5:20 pm
…until Garnett was done. After, no.
June 5th, 2009 at 5:20 pm
Every player/team wants to beat the Best player/team possible, ESPECIALLY IN THE NBA. It’s not a case of fear, it’s a case, of, well that would make life easier. Remember guys, of the 3 teams in discussion, the Lakers didn’t beat the Magic until last night this season.
June 5th, 2009 at 5:23 pm
Fair point, Ruck. I just envision the rest of the Lakers as faceless unemotional robots. Seriously, does anyone on that team other than Kobe have a personality?
June 5th, 2009 at 5:23 pm
I think that what those guys offer vs. the Cavs current PF offering makes them light years better. They don’t need a huge inside presence, they need a competent basketball player (Re: Not Varejao).
June 5th, 2009 at 5:23 pm
I agree. In fact, just about everyone gave up on the Celtics after that. But during the regular season, the only thing LA was concerned about was that they have home court if they were to meet the Celtics in the finals. They weren’t afraid of Cleveland.
June 5th, 2009 at 5:27 pm
Varejao was effective all season long..until the Orlando series. He was extremely valuable to their success in winning 66 games and carrying out Mike Brown’s defense. Offensively, he does struggle, there’s no doubt. But those problems were mitigated for much of the season with the great outside shooting by Mo and Delonte.
The Cavs do desperately need someone who can score in the post. Until they get that, I don’t see them winning a title.
June 5th, 2009 at 5:30 pm
It seems like the Cavs have an identity crisis. Should they approach the offseason believing they were the regular season Cavs or the playoff Cavs? Because there’s a huge difference.
June 5th, 2009 at 5:31 pm
It’s just personal cursed, i really want Cle to succeed. I don’t want LeBron coming to New York, even though I am a Knick Fan. I want him to succeed in Cleveland, you guys deserve it. Varejao is a great role player, but he should by no means be starting. I can’t imagine another NBA team he should be starting for. And I can’t stand his face. How someone hasn’t hit him is shocking to me.
June 5th, 2009 at 5:34 pm
That’s easy, Unless LeBron gets shot in the offseason, him and 4 decent guys are making the playoffs. But they can;t beat anybody with one guy who does more than one thing well. They need versatility, particularly upfront. They need someone who can score and play defense upfront. Millsap, Odom, Powe, hell even Brandon Bass. They need someone else upfront. LeBron put on a ridiculous show this year, add one more post weapon, he averages 10 assists next year and picks up a win or 2 next year. (I’m scaring myself with these thoughts)
June 5th, 2009 at 5:38 pm
Cavs need an athletic big man most. I still like Sasha but it seems like he will never be given a legit chance. So, they need to find a good defender on the wing. Preferably one who doesnt repeatedly give up wide open 3s.
June 5th, 2009 at 6:29 pm
fetch: WOW
So we now know that Melky definitely has a thing for fat ugly blonde sluts
June 5th, 2009 at 6:49 pm
False. The Cavs were awesome in the 1st 2 rounds. Easily the best showing for the first 2 rounds. However, the Cavs do not match up well with Orlando for a couple of reasons.
1. The Cavs play their stellar defense from the inside out. That plays directly into Orlando’s hands, especially when they shoot like they did for 5 of the 6 games. The Magic’s shooting in games 1 and 2 caused Cleveland to adjust away from what made them successful on the defensive end all year (and since Brown has been there).
2. Orlando’s weakness on defense is the 4 man. Good 4 men have success against Orlando because they play 4 perimeter guys on the floor. Cleveland had Andy and Joe Smith at the 4, which did not take advantage of that weakness.
3. IF Boston had pulled out Game 7 against Orlando, Cleveland would have wiped the floor with them. No question, at least in my mind. Cleveland is a bad matchup for the C’s, just as Orlando was bad for Cleveland.
/Going back to sulking about the early ouster…

back to the the original question
What is Making Kevin Garnett’s Head Swell?
head-butting the goals before each game?
June 5th, 2009 at 7:00 pm
Doesn’t he have any 5′9″ Europeans to fight?

welcome back, maggs.

I think we’ve reached the point where hating on Boston sports fans is actually more annoying/obnoxious than Boston sports fans themselves.
