No Surprise Here: Curry Outshines Chad Ford Fav Jrue Holiday in Workout
1-liner, NBA Draft June 11th. 2009, 12:45pmStephen Curry: Killed at a workout with the Knicks yesterday. Slaughtered, maimed, and outplayed – not surprisingly – UCLA’s Jrue Holiday. Now the question becomes whether or not he’s even around at 8 when the Knicks are picking. And before you bash Curry, consider this – Blake Griffin was asked in an ESPN chat who he thought the 2nd best player in the draft was. His response: Curry. We’re salivating at the thought of Curry having teammates above the mid-major level. (NY Post)

you know the people with no reading comprehension would think that he was actually killed.

Neyer on the Ibanez thing:
Todd (Philly)
Rob – I can understand Ibanez being offended, but isn’t this exactly the kind of reason why other players should have spoken up via the union to strengthen penalties? Realizing that when one person offends, it impacts the UNION? Which is exactly why Manny’s comments the other day should be more the focus of Ibanez than some blogger? Any thoughts?
Rob Neyer
I don’t think it’s fair to expect Ibanez to see the big picture. Like most of us, he’s programmed to focus on his own little universe.

Knicks coaches think he can be the next Renaldo Balkman
June 11th, 2009 at 12:54 pm
Even those of us with reading comprehension living in the south, just assume, that since the workout took place in NYC, he was killed. But since it isn’t about SEC football, we really don’t give a rip.

Stephen Curry is going to hijack the NBA Draft the same way they let Mark Sanchez hijack the NFL draft, aren’t they?
June 11th, 2009 at 12:57 pm
balkman led the country in scoring (or was right there) two years in a row? didnt know that.

@ThatsSoTaguchi
That’s the angle I’m waiting to see someone in the mainstream media take. Doubt it will happen as it’s a perfect opportunity to rail against the blogger, but I would love to see Neyer pen an article along those lines.

what’s not to like?
smart kid. good kid. great shooter. great handle. one-man show. seemingly humble. undersized. under-recruited.
i still dont know why so many people here dislike him

That in spite of being coached by Dave Odom.

I don’t think people dislike him (I disdain Davidson though) but people think he will not be a good NBA point guard.
Never mind the fact that his shooting suffered when they pushed the three point line back this year and he’ll be dealing with an even more severe increase next year.
June 11th, 2009 at 1:05 pm
Maybe some people think he’s overrated after he couldn’t even get Davidson in the tourney after that run 2 years ago.
I know some people hate him because his brother’s going to Duke.
I dislike (don’t hate) him at the moment because he’s getting more press than Blake Griffin.

I found a great pic of Curry wearing a hat.
June 11th, 2009 at 1:07 pm
Loved watching him play but cant see his game translating to the NBA. Just look at all the terrible games last year when he faced good competition. I remember the WV, Butler, and Purdue games specifically.
June 11th, 2009 at 1:11 pm
Because he’s been hyped like the next great player, despite playing against DII competition and largely getting owned when actually playing against real competition. Unfortunately most of the things you listed will not help him at the next level, I’m glad hes a good kid, but that isn’t going stop him from getting worked over by bigger guards.
Maybe he’ll be a good pro, I dont see it, but he certainly has potential.
June 11th, 2009 at 1:17 pm
the reason he struggled this year had 0 to do with the line, and everything to do with him moving from SG-PG and the team losing its PG. curry was playing with 5 guys who probably couldn’t make an NBDL roster.
June 11th, 2009 at 1:17 pm
because, at the end of the day, in the NBA, he’s still undersized and incapable of defending any starting 2-guard.
that and because you use him in conjunction with needling cavs fans about lebron like curry is going to magically lure lebron to the knicks.

I was going to say that Knicks management came out a couple of weeks ago and said they were interested in Curry, and then came the flood of Curry stories. But I figured you’d say it better than me.
June 11th, 2009 at 1:24 pm
LeBron went to one of Curry’s games! You cant fucks wit science, son.
June 11th, 2009 at 1:38 pm
100% true. Besides shooting, the best part of his game is his passing, would have averaged more if he had competent people to pass to
That’s what everyone said about NateRob and he is the Knicks best defensive player (I know, not saying much) and he rarely gets posted up anyway. Why? because guards don’t know post moves anyway. You don’t not draft someone because they can’t play post defense.
“Can’t be worse than Nash”

nate robinson was an ex-football player who, despite his lack of height, has incredible hops, strength and speed…plus, he’s a 6th man at best. curry isn’t as fast, isn’t as strong and can be shot over by most starting 2-guards. you couldn’t have made a worse comparison.
curry’s not a PG.
June 11th, 2009 at 1:43 pm
of course you are…
June 11th, 2009 at 1:48 pm
First draft Curry and then pick up Amare. The Knicks will be a major threat. Unless people realize to just run the pick and roll.
June 11th, 2009 at 1:52 pm
Because he didn’t play against enough quality competition in college. J.J. Redick could shoot and handle in college. He comes off the bench (when SVG isn’t scared to death to put him in) in Orlando.
I think Curry is going to be a monumental bust. He doesn’t have the physical stature to endure 82 games at the NBA level. No chance.
June 11th, 2009 at 2:03 pm
Curry = Boobie Gibson with slightly better passing?

-Nate would start on 50% of NBA teams and played starter minutes this year
-Clearly he’s not as strong, but is also 4 years younger. (yes i know that he still won’t be but he will be stronger than he is now after a strength coach is on his ass)
-The argument I was referring too was that he is undersized and that undersized guards (like Nate) get exploited by getting posted up. All I was saying is that getting posted up is not something that is factored into draft strategies.
Just talking about how Nash plays zero defense. Wasn’t referring to position played
