If Kobe Doesn’t Get Help, It’ll Soon Be Tied at 2
NBA June 11th. 2009, 10:41pm
Worthwhile halftime stats: Kobe is 5-for-12; the rest of the team is 9-for-30. Though the Lakers are down 12, it should be much worse – Orlando has turned it over nine times and only made 3-of-12 from beyond the arc. The Magic lead, 49-37.
Lamar Odom’s having a second straight nightmare: eight minutes, three fouls, four points.

is 5-12 even that good?
June 11th, 2009 at 10:44 pm
Say what you want about Dwight’s offensive game. Defensively, he’s a monster
June 11th, 2009 at 10:44 pm
Baseball w/ Costas is easier to watch than Lakers getting slammed. Hope its within 8 by the time this is over.

papelbon about to face a brutal lineup
June 11th, 2009 at 10:46 pm
yes, kobe got away with a mugging of C Lee … which ended in Hedo picking up #3
June 11th, 2009 at 10:46 pm
Pau is LOLbad at rebounding this game
June 11th, 2009 at 10:47 pm
get a timeout SVG, it’s down to 7
June 11th, 2009 at 10:47 pm
I did acknowledge that a call went the Lakers way, everyone, but it was in the other post. Def a foul by Kobe on Lee.
June 11th, 2009 at 10:48 pm
Actually yes, the magic are giving other guys open looks, and they’re not hitting. He’s got to force the action and the Lakers have to pray he has a special game to even be in this one.
June 11th, 2009 at 10:48 pm
HDTV is great. I usually don’t notice it too much anymore, but since Directv’s ABC doesn’t show in HD in my area(even tho it says it does) every time I change the channel I’m awestruck.
/fucking ABC…
June 11th, 2009 at 10:48 pm
3rd qtr baskets:
Fisher
Kobe
Ariza
Ariza
that’s help.
June 11th, 2009 at 10:49 pm
Papel is taking care of this with ease so far, 2 outs.
June 11th, 2009 at 10:49 pm
Furthermore, I wish there was a statistic about good misses. Meaning, you collapse the defense and your team gets the offensive rebound b/c they’re out of position. No BS (i’m a loser and pay attention to these things), the Lakers got o-boards on four of his missed shots, thus mitigating the negative impact of his misses. It happens all the time…
June 11th, 2009 at 10:50 pm
things I’ve learned reading mark travis’ comments on the last post:
- the fouls on orlando are all irrelevant
- the lakers fouls shoudn’t count
- somehow, dwight howard should have fouled out by now
- the refs have given orlando the first two games
// enlightened…

June 11th, 2009 at 10:51 pm
Yankees still 0-fer the season against BOS this year. I can hear the sports radio calls already…
Under George, Girardi would have been publicly humiliated and fired tomorrow.
June 11th, 2009 at 10:51 pm
between Penny and Papelbon, Boston pitchers take FOREVER to throw.
That’s game.
June 11th, 2009 at 10:52 pm
Is it bad that I think it’s funny Tim Donaghy got kneecapped in the slammer?
June 11th, 2009 at 10:53 pm
out of a timeout an Alston 3? great call.
June 11th, 2009 at 10:53 pm
Is Mark Travis Mr. Papawhatever? And is he really a 12-year-old? I think I read that somewhere here this week.
June 11th, 2009 at 10:53 pm
that’s 4 on hedo
June 11th, 2009 at 10:53 pm
Is it safe to say the Magic blew their load too early???
June 11th, 2009 at 10:54 pm
Nice. 4 on Turk?
Good chance for Odom to break out for a little run here.
June 11th, 2009 at 10:54 pm
See there’s another Kobe miss that wasn’t that bad. Where are these in Hollinger’s stats?
June 11th, 2009 at 10:54 pm
Holy tits! GT IN DA HOUSE.
I’m thinking about heading to moondogs right now, couple of my friends play there every other thursday night. help me decide, GT guys.
June 11th, 2009 at 10:55 pm
do magic fans curse every time redick takes a shot?
June 11th, 2009 at 10:55 pm
meanwhile…
ARIZA!!!
June 11th, 2009 at 10:55 pm
Ariza = Paxon?
June 11th, 2009 at 10:55 pm
The doubling on Kobe in the post is killing the Magic.
June 11th, 2009 at 10:55 pm
Four on Hedo. God it is simply amazing how biased these refs are. They’re so obviously throwing the game.
June 11th, 2009 at 10:55 pm
Ariza taking the air out of the gym right now. SVG playing a Zen card here by not calling a TO.

June 11th, 2009 at 10:56 pm
is jj always on “i dont know when im gonna get to touch the ball, or better yet, play again so im gonna shoot it every time” mode or does he have a another mode im not aware of?
June 11th, 2009 at 10:56 pm
Looks like the Magic blew the big lead.
June 11th, 2009 at 10:57 pm

That fourth fall on Bynum is embarrassing. how could they call that? seriously
June 11th, 2009 at 10:58 pm
howard needs to turn beast mode back on. and really the fact that the ref missed a call like a wwe ref doesn when the bad guy is doing something bad is really disgusting
June 11th, 2009 at 10:58 pm
My point is that your complaining was absurdly premature and unwarranted. Thanks for backing me up.
June 11th, 2009 at 10:59 pm
Where’s all the Laker fans/homers/anti-Orlando/anti-refs people now? Fouls going against O-Town in this quarter, but it’s quite.
What, are these “actual” fouls?
June 11th, 2009 at 10:59 pm
howard has to dive for that loose ball
June 11th, 2009 at 10:59 pm
HAHAHA ADAM MORRISON!
June 11th, 2009 at 10:59 pm
I hope that was their 20 sec TO. Otherwise, that’s a stupid burn.
June 11th, 2009 at 10:59 pm
As weird as it may sound, that could be a career changing call. Bynum had 4 straight points and just made a great steal of the ball. Whistle. Nothing happened. Now he is on the bench.
June 11th, 2009 at 10:59 pm
why was D-Ho just staring at the ball on the floor like that???
June 11th, 2009 at 11:00 pm
Yes and yes.
June 11th, 2009 at 11:00 pm
chicago – Haha! Moondogs! Haven’t been there in a while. I’d tend to vote no, but that’s probably due to the fact that Thursday nights out become not such a good idea after the age of 25.
June 11th, 2009 at 11:00 pm
You never made this point until you made this point.
June 11th, 2009 at 11:01 pm
There is not an adjective strong enough to describe this hyperbole…
June 11th, 2009 at 11:01 pm
Orlando doesn’t have fans. Amway Arena should get in the Guinness Book for World’s Largest Bandwagon. I’m pretty sure through most of the season most of the citizens of Orlando don’t even realize that Orlando has a team.

June 11th, 2009 at 11:04 pm

@Cassino – Thanks for the answer.
@Clown – Awesome.
@The Ruckmaker – Have you seen her nude pictures? Good lord her body is way better than I thought.
@Younglefty – I miss going out on Thursday nights during college. Wings and tons of beer. Got the weekend going early. I’d probably do it but I’ve got a big boy job to get to on Friday.
June 11th, 2009 at 11:07 pm
haha- this.
Can’t really go there after that. too many 18-19 year olds. Fuck, I was 17 the first time I went there on my FASET trip.
June 11th, 2009 at 11:07 pm

classic.
June 11th, 2009 at 11:07 pm
that could be a career changing call.
There is not an adjective strong enough to describe this hyperbole…
Wade Phillips getting fired from the Bills after the Music City Miracle is a “career changing call”
Theisman getting his leg folded over in three places on national television has nothing on a 21 year old coming out of a game.
/get to sleep you got prom tomorrow night

June 11th, 2009 at 11:10 pm
Tough shot.
4 point lead. Strap it down for the 4th. This should be fun.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t1ewIkVRdEo&feature=player_embedded
June 11th, 2009 at 11:11 pm
Kobe is making up for the bad offensive game on defense. Not to start an argument here, but this shows me that Kobe is still leaps and bounds better defensively than LeBron when it comes to half court bodying someone up. LeBron kills it on those blocks and steals, but Kobe does not get beat often one-on-one.
June 11th, 2009 at 11:11 pm
Hallelujah!!!
June 11th, 2009 at 11:12 pm
fun? lakers got this. the lead, momentum, confidence, 4 on Hedo … ballgame. would be STUNNED if the magic rallied to win.
ariza, as someone said, had a HUGE quarter, and probably made himself some serious coin
June 11th, 2009 at 11:12 pm
It’d be so weird if they made that entire website just for the sake of it. Weird and random
June 11th, 2009 at 11:13 pm
fun? lakers got this. the lead, momentum, confidence, 4 on Hedo … ballgame. would be STUNNED if the magic rallied to win.
not so fast, my friend!!!
June 11th, 2009 at 11:13 pm
Wow. Sasha Vujacic. What the hell happened to him? I forgot he was on the Lakers. Wasn’t he a critical role player last year?
June 11th, 2009 at 11:14 pm
i prefer the one where he cries on the bench after ray allen burns his ass
June 11th, 2009 at 11:14 pm
Thats gonna start an argument. You can never take one 12 minute stretch and prove a point
June 11th, 2009 at 11:15 pm
I swear, TBL is the king of the reversed jinx
June 11th, 2009 at 11:15 pm
Didn’t you see the whole Orlando series, LeBron made zero defensive plays, maybe two chase down blocks/goaltends.
June 11th, 2009 at 11:15 pm
Whoa, Nellie!
June 11th, 2009 at 11:15 pm
I thought Bryant scored 8 points that qtr. that ain’t bad.

@BSSM – Never saw that one. I’ll check now.
June 11th, 2009 at 11:17 pm
How bad was the last offseason for the Lakers? Bad contracts for both Vujacic AND Bynum? Yikes.
June 11th, 2009 at 11:17 pm
They have the big M-O, Momentum!!!
June 11th, 2009 at 11:17 pm
Prove it.
/Sarcasm
I think they’re about equivalent defensively. Both play a kind of roamer role, Lebron blocks better, Kobe steals better. They both get away with a lot of fouls
June 11th, 2009 at 11:18 pm
Is this it, BSSM?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y5XroW3nGXQ
June 11th, 2009 at 11:19 pm
I’m just gonna put this out there.
That was definitely a foul on Odom. A very, very stupid foul.
June 11th, 2009 at 11:19 pm
jordan did both better
June 11th, 2009 at 11:19 pm
I guess we’ll disagree. I actually see Kobe play a lot more physical. But you’re right that they’re both roamers most of the time. I do think Mike Brown needed to have him straight u defend more last series.
June 11th, 2009 at 11:20 pm
Also, Lebron had 23 steals and 12 blocks in 14 games, so I’m assuming he didn’t do absolutely nothing for nearly half of them.
June 11th, 2009 at 11:20 pm
Pippen was a better defender than all of the above.
June 11th, 2009 at 11:20 pm
yea..not quite as obvious as i remember it from last year..still epic though
magic falling apart
June 11th, 2009 at 11:20 pm
OK. When Kobe gets doubled like that, all a Lkaer has to do is fucking stand at the 3 point line like that one play Kobe passed to ariza. Yet none of them do anything, and Kobe’s looking, looking, and no one’s there. Therefore, turnover Kobe.
June 11th, 2009 at 11:21 pm
Too many negatives for me to compute, haha.
/just giving u a hard time.
June 11th, 2009 at 11:21 pm
Funny how all of the Laker first half crybabies (well like 2 of them) are quiet in the second when the LAkeshow is getting all the calls.
June 11th, 2009 at 11:21 pm
i should have add a /sa tag.
June 11th, 2009 at 11:21 pm
Its 5 v 8 right now.
June 11th, 2009 at 11:21 pm
I may have to disagree that Pip was a better defender than Jordan.
June 11th, 2009 at 11:22 pm
Good god the fouls called on the last two possessions seemed so soft.
June 11th, 2009 at 11:22 pm
Sit down and eat some hershey’s kisses lamar
June 11th, 2009 at 11:22 pm
So bad that they made it to the NBA Finals.
June 11th, 2009 at 11:23 pm
Not sure what’s funny about this. I don’t have anything to complain about anymore.
June 11th, 2009 at 11:23 pm
Was that Janine Girafalo doing the voiceover for that Denny’s ad?
Also, I’m looking forward to this FlashForward show.
June 11th, 2009 at 11:23 pm
Wow. It was Pippen defending full court constantly, and always guarding the best perimeter players on opposing teams. I’m not saying MJ wasn’t a top defender, but guys could simply not get around Pip.
June 11th, 2009 at 11:23 pm
At least you’re thinking long term.
June 11th, 2009 at 11:24 pm
I should have added a /sa tag.
June 11th, 2009 at 11:24 pm
He’s 12. He has no idea what the fuck long term means.
June 11th, 2009 at 11:25 pm
I wasn’t grouping you in there, chicago, but if you’d like to be…
Lots of fouls going against O-Town now is what I’m saying, but it’s quite on that front.
June 11th, 2009 at 11:25 pm
Misses the point. Now they have to choose between Ariza and Odom this offseason. Good luck moving either Vujacic or that stiff Bynum.
June 11th, 2009 at 11:25 pm
Is there a player who gets stripped more times in a game than Howard?
June 11th, 2009 at 11:25 pm
Shoulda had quotation marks on the “absolutely nothing”. just paraphrasing your statement.
/hard time back
Really? I actually think he was, or at least played better defense in games because Jordan took the scoring load
June 11th, 2009 at 11:26 pm
Jordan is second all-time in steals behind Stockton.
June 11th, 2009 at 11:26 pm
Kobe is great.
June 11th, 2009 at 11:26 pm
you did not just go there…nawww awwwww…steals to prove a defensive point..nooo1!!!!
June 11th, 2009 at 11:26 pm
Damnit, that’s like the third time I’ve written quite instead of quiet.
June 11th, 2009 at 11:26 pm
haha oops… in that case, please leave me out.
June 11th, 2009 at 11:27 pm
Kobe needs to get in the lane…those jumpers will kill the Lakers.
June 11th, 2009 at 11:27 pm
+1 Cassino lol
June 11th, 2009 at 11:27 pm
Looks like it might be DJ Mbenga time down the stretch for the Lakers.
June 11th, 2009 at 11:28 pm
Adam Morrison has a tie on tonight.
Can DHo knock these down? Magic have been bad at the line.
June 11th, 2009 at 11:28 pm
everytime one of you mentions “sa”, an angel loses it’s wings.
June 11th, 2009 at 11:28 pm
This is sort of what I was thinking when I said I thought Jordan was a better defender cursed, but I suppose it’s a pretty weak point.
June 11th, 2009 at 11:28 pm
huge foul by farmar
June 11th, 2009 at 11:29 pm
Magic need Lewis to step up down the stretch
June 11th, 2009 at 11:29 pm
Is there a player who gets stripped more times in a game than Howard?
this guy?
June 11th, 2009 at 11:29 pm
Totally agree with younglefty. Vujacic is a bum. At least Bynum is still young, but I’d rather have both Odom and Ariza.
June 11th, 2009 at 11:29 pm
i think so to but i was saying i was just sayoing jordan was better at both things as a joke…wow im really having to explain everything i say?
June 11th, 2009 at 11:29 pm
is that bad, cursed?
June 11th, 2009 at 11:30 pm

/Lets shoot over dwight!

June 11th, 2009 at 11:32 pm
chicago – I don’t mind Kobe. I’m one of the Kobe>LeBron guys.
Has anyone ever ate Popeyes? I see these ads all the time.
June 11th, 2009 at 11:32 pm
Kobe needs to settle down and run an offense. If he is hell-bent on shooting, at least take it closer to the paint before he pulls up.
June 11th, 2009 at 11:32 pm
I want Adam Morrison to be the Brian Scalabrine of the Lakers
June 11th, 2009 at 11:32 pm
‘
My problem is that Kobe was in a legal guarding position and was backpedaling..Pietrus, in an effort to go forward, creating all contact there. Great move, but should be just a no call.
June 11th, 2009 at 11:32 pm
Are you sure you’re not a fan of the Lakers, Mr. Pap?
June 11th, 2009 at 11:32 pm
Shit. Another Adam Sandler bomb.
June 11th, 2009 at 11:32 pm

You’re kidding, right? Popeyes is the shit.
June 11th, 2009 at 11:34 pm
My problem is that Kobe was in a legal guarding position and was backpedaling..Pietrus, in an effort to go forward, creating all contact there. Great move, but should be just a no call.
thanks for the breakdown, Joey Crawford
/remembers the 321 times LeBron blew over people flying to the basket and getting a call last series (especially the call against Pietrus)
June 11th, 2009 at 11:34 pm
That Pietrus on Kobe drive gets call against the defender 80 percent of the time. The contact was there, no matter if it was initiated by the offensive guy. It’s just like a guy standing around the circle with hands up and a dude, say D-Wade or LeBron, come charging in and put their arms/shoulders into defenders chest. It gets called. Right or wrong.

the worst free throw shooting team in the league shot great FTs against Cleveland … game 4 and they’ve missed 10.
June 11th, 2009 at 11:36 pm
but it is worth it
June 11th, 2009 at 11:36 pm
I think it’s definitely wrong, but you’re right. It’s just a foul that’s getting called nearly all the time.
June 11th, 2009 at 11:36 pm
Lakers already in penalty. This 5 minutes of game time should be over by the weekend.

The Magic are going to win this one decisively. The Lakers are choking and Kobe can’t hit the side of a barn. Dwight is going to destroy them down the stretch.

June 11th, 2009 at 11:59 pm
TBL, Lakers can’t get to the stripe.. Zero free throws in the fourth, when’s the last finals game that has happened?
June 12th, 2009 at 12:00 am
Lewis’ toughest shot of game and he drills it after missing all those open ones. Go figure.
June 12th, 2009 at 12:01 am
oh man, that was fantastic. Love how the others just keep playing for the camera don’t even notice she fell just keep pushing forward with their TV time.
June 12th, 2009 at 12:02 am
Someone needs to write a little memo explaining to coaches that when they are up by 3 with 10 seconds to go, and the opposing team has to move the ball up the court, you simply run a full court press, foul if someone who can’t shoots free throws as soon as they get it, or foul when they get within 5 feet of the 3 point arc. Wow I just won a basketball game.
June 12th, 2009 at 12:02 am

What was Pietris thinking?
June 12th, 2009 at 12:15 am
G-man and jpq apparently haven’t watched a second of the game.
look at where the shots for the Lakers have been taken, genius. They’ve jacked up 90 shots, and 80% of them are outside the paint or from 15 feet out. How many fouls do you draw that way? They just got their 1st bucket in close with that last one

June 12th, 2009 at 12:17 am
Pietrus probably shouldn’t have hit him like that, but Gasol dunking there was uncalled for so he should not have been surprised by a hard foul.
June 12th, 2009 at 12:18 am
Depends on game five. Because game one stands out more than his failure in game three.

Kobe had 32/8/7 in a Lakers win
I called 12/34 and he went 11/31
June 12th, 2009 at 12:20 am
Does this T-Mobile thing add up to give the Bill Russell trophy, or is it just for fun? That’s Kobe’s third right?
June 12th, 2009 at 12:21 am
jpq. click through every separate player. there’s a whole lot more than just that one shot by gasol next to the basket. the lakers were getting in the lane just fine, and it definitely wasn’t “80% of them are outside the paint or from 15 feet out”. That’s just silly.
June 12th, 2009 at 12:21 am
More importantly, Opie and Anthony are on Fallon tonight.
June 12th, 2009 at 12:21 am
How does Magic Johnson still get work as an analyst? He is freaking terrible.
June 12th, 2009 at 12:22 am
mrejr – did you see that EAster Island stone with a hat on in that link you posted earlier?
It doesn’t surprise me Pietrus commited that foul in that manner. From behind. He’s French. What do you expect?
Look at their records in wars.

More importantly, Opie and Anthony are on Fallon tonight.
thanks for letting me know
/switches to Ferguson ASAP
June 12th, 2009 at 12:24 am
JPQ..haha, Just give them a chance.
June 12th, 2009 at 12:25 am
didn’t kobe shoot 11/31?
June 12th, 2009 at 12:25 am
I mean, JPQ, Stern was so awful on Letterman words can’t describe. He was disjointed, giving long-winded wedding stories that were a bore.. let’s see how the “imitators” do tonight.
June 12th, 2009 at 12:25 am
JPQ..haha, Just give them a chance.
they’re…whatever. Fallon I literally start squirming watching him feeling bad for how awful he is. It’s like watching Chevy Chase and the Magic Hour all over again
June 12th, 2009 at 12:26 am
But to be fair, if he was getting calls, he wouldn’t need to take that many shots. He’d be like 11/21
June 12th, 2009 at 12:26 am
Howard’s stat line was sick.
16, 21, 9 blocks. Had he hit the free throws it would be one of the sickest lines in Finals history. Instead he is the goat.
June 12th, 2009 at 12:26 am
Kobe has really improved his teammates’ games. It’s really amazing. Of course, Hollinger doesn’t have a stat for it so he will continue to get hated on.
June 12th, 2009 at 12:27 am
yeah, rough second half, but I will say, his misses didn’t kill them mostly. He collapsed the defense and I counted 8 of his misses that they got offensive rebounds on. Also was key defensively with rebounding and that one steal from Howard was effing huge.
June 12th, 2009 at 12:27 am
You could be fucking with me, but I’m not going to disagree. Maybe more like 11/24, but with 42 points.
June 12th, 2009 at 12:28 am
Cursed, I don’t get how you can give Kobe credit for offense rebounds that his teammates get. I can understand if he gets them himself, thus negating his own miss.
June 12th, 2009 at 12:29 am
B/c good things happen when you collapse a defense or draw doubles. Obviously some can be by luck, but a lot were due to the breakdowns…something the stat lines never show. I argue with NICK P about this stuff all the time.
June 12th, 2009 at 12:30 am
I mean, JPQ, Stern was so awful on Letterman words can’t describe. He was disjointed, giving long-winded wedding stories that were a bore.. let’s see how the “imitators†do tonight.
I saw him. He’s always like that on Letterman, he comes on like he’s on speed and tries to control the talking, and Letterman is so awful he just sits there and says nothing. It’s tough on any of these guy’s shows and be good, because they all suck at interviewing. Leno was horrible, so is Letterman, Conan and Fallon are too. Kimmel and Ferguson are probably the only ones who can actually interact w/ a guest and not make it seem like they just met on match.com
June 12th, 2009 at 12:30 am
Let’s not talk about the misses from when his teammates pass him the ball with 6 seconds left on the shot clock. He probably averages like 4 of those a game.
June 12th, 2009 at 12:31 am
yeah ndub is aw it very funny
June 12th, 2009 at 12:32 am
that’s a Hubie Brown-like breakdown of various tonight shows. I love it. Letterman has been mailing it in for years. I do think Leno’s monologue was the best..b/c he’s an actual standup comedian.
June 12th, 2009 at 12:32 am
didn’t kobe shoot 11/31?
But to be fair, if he was getting calls, he wouldn’t need to take that many shots. He’d be like 11/21
can I bring you guys with me next time I play golf? “I shot an 80, but if you take away the two three putts and the ob and the two chip I really should have stiffed and the pulled wedge on 14, I would have had a 73.”
June 12th, 2009 at 12:36 am
JPQ, I did think Kobe got hacked a bunch in the fourth. But I’ll be honest, he looks like he’s incapable of getting to the basket late in games.
June 12th, 2009 at 12:36 am
JPQ, we’re not actually changing the statline. You could say you WOULD have had a 73, but you’d still have an 80
June 12th, 2009 at 12:37 am
I don’t know if Kobe has the ability to takeover a game any more. He’s trying his ass off to do it, and quite frankly, it kinda sucks to see that he can’t do it.
June 12th, 2009 at 12:38 am
i was just kidding
June 12th, 2009 at 12:40 am
He can do it, but only the perimeter. He’s a streak shooter out there, so yeah I think he can. But to rely on that for your offense is dangerous. I’ve hated the triangle for years b/c it relies on one-on-one. They don’t run plays for Kobe, something they’re going to have to do as he gets older.
June 12th, 2009 at 12:40 am
SVG is pissed man. Wow. None of that happy go lucky shit in this press conference…
June 12th, 2009 at 12:40 am
/basketball expert.
June 12th, 2009 at 12:43 am
Oh…um…then so was I
June 12th, 2009 at 12:45 am
Cursed, but that’s more like him getting on a hot streak. I meant Kobe taking over the game at will. If you’re just talking about getting hot from the outside, I mean, hell even trevor ariza can do that.
June 12th, 2009 at 12:48 am
Ruck, not like Kobe though. Kobe can hit shots with peoople draped all over him unlike anyone I’ve ever seen. Nobody else can do that, seriously.
June 12th, 2009 at 12:52 am
If he wasn’t so dead set on shooting the ball at the end of games, I’d still want the ball in his hands. He’s a deadly facilitator down the stretch, and all he has to do is just pick his spots to score better
June 12th, 2009 at 12:53 am
Agree to agree..at this point.
June 12th, 2009 at 12:53 am
You are right about his shooting though. Some of the shots he makes are seriously just jaw dropping
June 12th, 2009 at 12:56 am
400TH!!!!!!!
June 12th, 2009 at 12:59 am
I thought Kobe would be all over 40 points tonight.
Then again, I thought he’d get 36+ shots. He only got 31 shot attempts, so not surprisingly, he came up a few points short (32).
June 12th, 2009 at 1:04 am
Does the giant man in the middle for Orlando have anything to do with Kobe’s reluctance to go to the hole late? Even Lebron had a tough time finishing at the cup late in games with Howard waiting for him.
June 12th, 2009 at 1:07 am
Lakers depth proved to be too much as Kobe played like shit again as we all predicted and the Lakers won again as we all predicted. Will this go down as the worst performance of all time by a Finals MVP when Kobe gets it?
June 12th, 2009 at 1:11 am
Kobe is clearly a couple notches below LeBron. Dont even think Laker homers will argue hes better after watching this series. At this point I think Wade and Howard are better players.
June 12th, 2009 at 1:13 am
Duder..no, not even close. MJ in 1998 scored 33 a game..shot 43% and added a whopping 4 rebounds and 2.3 assists…doing that with Pippen, Rodman, Kucoc and an aging Harper.
Kobe is playing much better than that.
June 12th, 2009 at 1:14 am
And Duder, your agenda is getting too obvious. LeBron is number 1, Kobe number 2. Also, Kobe’s defense has been way better than LeBron’s against this exact same Orlando team. Kobe’s shot like dog shit, and is still making a huge impact.
June 12th, 2009 at 1:20 am
And while I’m dominating this argument, I’ll add that MJ in 96 shot 42%, scored 27, and added only 5 rebounds and added only 4 assists (did the guy ever pass)?
Revisionist history is marvelous thing.
June 12th, 2009 at 1:34 am
And now for some official pownage… Lakers bench, 17 points. Orlando’s: 29. Duder, you’re awful at this!
June 12th, 2009 at 1:37 am
Who needs a bench when you have 2 of the 10 best in the NBA in your starting lineup
June 12th, 2009 at 1:41 am
cursed, just looked at some of the comments. You stated multiple times that Kobe was having “good misses”. I mean, honestly cursed? 11-31 is somehow good for the team. That is an incredible argument, I’ll give you that.
June 12th, 2009 at 1:45 am
let’s look at the facts:
game 3 – magic shoot 62% at home, odom doesn’t show up and kobe plays like crap – and win by only 4.
game 4 – magic lose large lead at home, despite being given 18 unanswered free throws in the fourth quarter and OT. (As an aside that sort of reminds me of the kobe vs lebron debate. lebron has the stats – but kobe has the rings. think they’d trade?)
let’s just cut to the chase – the magic really aren’t that good.
As for the kobe haters – keep on hatin. You know it really doesn’t even matter anymore.
Kobe will opt out this summer and re-sign for 2 to 3 million less per year to reboot the dynasty. you heard it here first.
June 12th, 2009 at 1:52 am
Duder, once again, if you’re collapsing the defense and it causes your team to get the offensive rebound, then I wouldn’t classify them as “bad” misses. What’s your interpretation?
June 12th, 2009 at 2:15 am
Cursed is right, of course.
/love MJ, but have gone over his stats, and yes, he is the greatest player ever, but still, “Revisionist history is marvelous thing.”
//Lebron hasn’t done shit, so shut the fuck up. He has never seen the type of defenses that Kobe sees. I am unwilling to argue this, so fuck the world
///drunk, but stating my true feelings
June 12th, 2009 at 2:39 am
I, uh, really Chicago? I’m pretty sure he sees just as much attention on offense. His opponents have tried all sorts of things. The Magic collapsed the entire team on him any time he drove.
@cursed- I don’t know what justification you have for saying that Lebron didn’t play good D in the Magic series, or that Kobe is playing good D now (except him having a whole one steal and one block tonight). For what its worth, over the course of the year his defensive metrics were better than Kobe’s.
@both. I don’t buy into the argument that “Lebron hasn’t done shit”. The same thing holds for Kobe. He was a clear #2 for his rings, and he did not play well in the finals last year. Even Jordan didn’t win his first until he was 26 or 27. That doesn’t mean that he wasn’t already the best before he got Pippen and the rest of his supporting cast.
Finally, saying that Kobe hits harder shots isn’t a good argument. He hits harder shots because he takes harder shots, and, as we saw tonight, he doesn’t make them at a very good rate.
That said he would not be the worst finals mvp ever.
June 12th, 2009 at 2:45 am
All you’re doing is supporting Lebron, because you’re making it clear that he owed it to his supporting cast. Therefore, it is certainly logical to infer that Lebron’s supporting cast could cost him the title. Also, while Kobe’s stats compare favorably, Lebron’s blow them out of the water.
June 12th, 2009 at 3:20 am
series overr, kobe noq one of the GOATs.
June 12th, 2009 at 3:50 am
I still can’t figure out why no matter what the Lakers do including win, the Kobe-hating on this site is endless especially from all those bitter folks in Ohio and New York who were pulling for Lebron and also the Nuggets. Probably East Coast and especially New York bias again that is common here but not nearly as bad as on ESPN and most cable “national” channels with shows based out of Metro New York or Washington.
)
Watch them all out in full force tomorrow and after game five, which I predict my Lakers will drop before taking it all in game six as I had predicted.
EAT ASS YOU FUCKERS!
June 12th, 2009 at 6:48 am
Derek Fisher. Unbelievable. He’s be doing this for awhile. Him and Horry killed Philly in 2000.
June 12th, 2009 at 8:25 am
Um, no. Because once again Kobe has played like shit and rode his supporting cast in 3 out of 4 games. This is like saying Karl Malone would trade his career for Robert Horrys. Worst argument ever.
June 12th, 2009 at 8:42 am
On a macro level your counter argument makes sense. Of course Malone wouldn’t trade his career for horry’s, but that’s not the analogy I made. On a micro level taking into consideration stats and ability levels, if you think rings don’t matter in the kobe vs lebron debate, then you are nuts.
June 12th, 2009 at 8:46 am
Make that – Malone would probably trade a sizeable portion of his career for 1 or 2 rings.
June 12th, 2009 at 8:52 am
And Kobe would trade the Shaq rings to be known as the best ever. He knows that will never happen with LeBron only 24 and already better.
My argument is more to support the other Laker players than to rip Kobe. Gasol is amazing, he will likely make the next 5 AS games or so. Odom is better than anyone LeBron has ever played with. Fisher has shown hes the big shot maker that Kobe could always rely on. Kobes great, always been a fan. He deserves it.
June 12th, 2009 at 8:59 am
I don’t know. I don’t think 1 title allows you entry in the best ever debate.
I agree that lebron is better physically, but there is something about his mental state that I just don’t like. And don’t get me wrong, I love him as a player – just not as a leader. Like it or not, kobe puts constant pressure on his teammates so they are (usually…) ready for it. Maybe if Lebron had yelled at some of his teammates during the year for stupid plays rather than taking fake photos with them before games and being “best teammate ever” they would’ve been more ready for the pressure of the big stage.
In the long run, Lebron’s agenda for fame and money (self stated) is going to hamstring a team’s ability to put quality players around him. And if howard develops a post game of any kind, it may not even matter.
June 12th, 2009 at 9:00 am
At this point in time, rings don’t matter. What matters for LeBron is LRMR and tha ROC. As he gets older and matures, he might care more about winning, but it’s hard to tell with these players who are all about stats. I thought the Olympics would change him, so who knows?
I guess it was a telltale sign that he wasn’t serious about winning when they were doing pregame photo skits and making sure the cameras were rolling for the halfcourt shots.
June 12th, 2009 at 9:01 am
Get out of my mind, goldticket.
June 12th, 2009 at 9:09 am
but it’s so quiet here.
j/k jimmy.
