Tradition #1: The handshake line at the end of each playoff series.

Sidney Crosby was late getting to the line at the end of Game 7 and some of the Red Wings didn’t really like it. Via Total Pro Sports:

“Nick was waiting and waiting, and Crosby didn’t come over to shake his hand,” Draper told an Associated Press reporter a couple hours later as he was leaving Joe Louis Arena. “That’s ridiculous, especially as their captain, and make sure you write that I said that!” [NBC Sports]

If you watch the YouTube over at TPS, you’ll notice that some of the Wings wait for a hot minute before skating off in a huff. Let this be a lesson to Crosby. If you’re going to be gracious in victory, do it quickly. After a loss, people are usually looking for excuses to not be gracious in defeat.

Tradition #2: Taking the Stanley Cup out on the town and showing it a good time.

That’s just what the Penguins did. Just look at the sideshow at WPXI of the Pens bringing the Cup around Pittsburgh to celebrate. At the top of the post, that’s Marc-Andre Fleury holding the Cup out the window at one of the places of revelry. No other trophy is brandied about with such little regard for its own safety. Along with playoff beards, it’s yet another hockey tradition you have to love.
