In a Snoozer, the Los Angeles Lakers are NBA Champions, Beating the Orlando Magic 99-86
NBA June 14th. 2009, 10:39pm
Well, that was anti-climactic. The Lakers seized control with a 16-0 run in the second quarter and the Magic never got within single digits. Lamar Odom had 16-10 off the bench, and will get paid handsomely this offseason; so too will Trevor Ariza, who had a 2nd straight game with 15 points. Both are free agents, and it seems unlikely that they will be retained by the Lakers. That’s why Mark Jackson – who struggled in the Finals – has no clue what he’s talking about when he says, “they’re not finished.” Good thing Jeff Van Gundy was there to bail him out.
Kobe (30 points) has his 4th ring, and first since that fateful summer day in Colorado. Phil has his NBA-record 10th ring, snapping his tie with Red Auerbach. The title is the 15th in Lakers history.
We won’t have a Kobe-MJ discussion tomorrow. Not worth it.

lol shaq.
TBL I didn’t think you would stoop as low to posting the smoking gun link for no real reason in the championship announcement.
Nothing can take away my extreme enjoyment and happiness from Kobe getting this title, not even you Kobe haters and all your ridiculous bullshit.
June 14th, 2009 at 10:50 pm
Phil has a special “10″ hat? ghey.
June 14th, 2009 at 10:50 pm
Awesome Kobe snubs ESPN! I concur!
June 14th, 2009 at 10:51 pm

June 14th, 2009 at 10:52 pm
Is Joey Buss retarded?
What an awkward interview.
June 14th, 2009 at 10:52 pm
Pau Gasol speaks perfect English. Amazing. Sans Lebron the title means nothing. See you in 2010.

Phil has a special “10″ hat? ghey.
It’s an homage to Denzel and his work in that incredible movie

A bit extreme on the critique I think, as I think TBL Godfather was trying to frame accurately how far things have come from those lows all the Laker fans like me and many NBA fans remember, with I don’t think any ill intent.
June 14th, 2009 at 10:53 pm
Man, your life must be incredibly sad if seeing Kobe get a title is extreme enjoyment.

Congrats to the Lakers. They rose to every challenge this postseason. Just a few questions:
- What are the chances SVG returns next season after these Finals?
- Don’t the Lakers at least make an attempt at keeping Ariza?
June 14th, 2009 at 10:56 pm
What the hell does that mean?

June 14th, 2009 at 11:00 pm
does phil jackson retire?
June 14th, 2009 at 11:01 pm
If this was the case, I think a mere mention of the colorado incident would do the trick, and maybe actually stating something about “how far things have come from those lows”. Seeing as how he posted the embarrassing interview and he’s hated Kobe since Shaq left town, I doubt he was actually trying to do that.
Simply a fan of the Kobe since I was 10. No need speculate about how sad my life is.
June 14th, 2009 at 11:02 pm
Pau Gasol speaks better English than 95% of my high school class
I used to travel all over Latin American countries (and to Spain) for work, and more people speak English in those countries than you will see spoken in Miami.

FUCK all you haters for tonight.
Seriously:
- cant do it without Shaq
- too selfish to lead his team anywhere
- his own teammates must hate him (2 straight Finals appearances…yeah, try again)
- Past his prime
TITLE #4…we got it.
You guys have no idea how this feels as a fan right now, especially considering ALL the shit I’ve had to hear since Shaq left. Seriously.
BTw, Shaq had a funny tweet…”kobe u deserve it, I know ur thinking right now “Shaq how my ass taste”, haha nice one Big Irrelevant.
TBL, there was no need to mention Colorado.
And I’m sick of you fuckers thinking everyhting Kobe does is phony, he cant even enjoy celebrating with his family without being scruntized.
Similar to what KG said last year…
“What can you say now? What will you say now??”
2009 Champions.

What about the other side? Can Orlando retain TMJOT? How many seasons til Dwight has a post game that isn’t just dunking? I think the East is going to be far more interesting than the West for the next 3 seasons or so.
And, I think Ariza is in purple and gold next year. Odom is elsewhere.
June 14th, 2009 at 11:27 pm
actually, there will be a kobe discussion tomorrow re: Jordan and others.
how many people on ESPN tonight have called him a top 10 all-time player?

You can’t have a post about Kobe on tonight of all nights w/o ChrisP chiming in his two cents. Karma, that was beautiful man, you said exactly what needed to be said. BSSM why is Magic pissing you off? Mayb it’s because he’s calling all you Kobe haters out on national TV and putting your hating asses on front street! TBL, calling Kobe a Top 10 player of all time is not a stretch. I would probably say top 15 myself but top 10 isn’t as crazy as you make it sound. Oh, and if you think the Lakers are going to let Ariza and Odom go, you’re smoking some mean kush my man! If your hating ass had just said what you really wanted to and that is you hope the Lakers don’t re-sign Ariza or Odom, I would give you more credit. If they are both smart, they will stay with L.A. and get paid and play for more rings for at least the next two to three years!
June 14th, 2009 at 11:46 pm

My apologies BSSM, but man you know Magic can get kind of Deonish with his suits from time to time!

Lakers 2009 NBA Champs! After last year this shit feels so good.
June 15th, 2009 at 12:11 am
Yes it is, because at long last, the NBA season is over. Of course, for the next 2-3 weeks, every blogger, MSM writer, and sports talking head will have their noses firmly planted up Kobe’s ass. Now they’ll all be able to tell Shaq how it tastes.

I LOVE that Favre is going on Joe Buck tomorrow. ESPN must be in a complete frenzy. “We have to talk about Kobe, Phil, LeBron, Shaq….and now Favre? There aren’t enough minutes in the day!!!!”
Also, think how pissed Kobe’s gonna be when Shaq and Favre, the two biggest media whores, upstage his moment tomorrow
/brainsplosion!!!!!!!!!!!!
June 15th, 2009 at 12:37 am
I wrote this on the other post, but it’s been abandoned:
Just went back and listened to Breen’s call of the ridiculous Kobe shot..and he absolutely ruined it (just like he did for Wade’s circus finals shot..both were better than Jordan’s “spectacular move†shot..but Albert sold it much, much better – sometimes the announcers make the plays. He paused..waits too long, and says “wowwwww, Speak[sic] of making plays Bryant banks it in.€ He did this in the worst monotone nasally voice of all time. GET HIM OUT of championship games. The only thing worse would be to pair him with Doris Burke on the sidelines.
June 15th, 2009 at 12:38 am
Congrats on the win. All of your hard work paid off.
June 15th, 2009 at 12:40 am
Kobe actually really thinks the Shaq thing is ridiculous, as do I. He mentioned that the early-00 Lakers were probably the only team two have two dominant alpha-dogs and still win comofortably. I still understand the Shaq shit…I mean, Kobe played a HUGE role in those runs…he closed out the games, which Shaq wasn’t capable of doing. Each couldn’t have won without the other; I agree that it really is silly to give all the credit to Shaq or even Kobe.
But whatever, I dont have to listen to that Shaq bullshit anymore. No more hearing about how Kobe’s the worst person on the planet…Lakers ‘09, that’s all that needs to be said.
June 15th, 2009 at 12:44 am
Wow, I completely butchered that post. Let me edit it.
Kobe actually really believes that the Shaq thing is ridiculous, as do I. He mentioned that the early-00 Lakers were probably the only teams to have two dominant alpha-dogs and still win comofortably. I still don’t understand the Shaq shit…I mean, Kobe played a HUGE role in those runs…he closed out the games, which Shaq wasn’t capable of doing. Each couldn’t have won without the other; I agree that it really is silly to give all the credit to Shaq or even Kobe.
But whatever, I dont have to listen to that Shaq bullshit anymore. No more hearing about how Kobe’s the worst person on the planet (actually, that will start tommorow)…Lakers ‘09, that’s all that needs to be said.
Also, I know the “Where does Kobe rank” and the “Is he better than Lebron now” and the “Is he as good as MJ” questions will start on TBL tommorow.
To answer, I’d say yes, Top 10, no Lebron’s better stastistically, and no, he will never be better than MJ, but neither will Lebron.
Thanks.

This series prove without a shadow of doubt in my mind… Rafer Alston sucks.
June 15th, 2009 at 1:51 am
Many thoughts I have…
The Magic playing Jameer Nelson in the series was a big mistake that messed with their chemistry. They will be dangerous next year when they don’t have to play the atrociously inconsistent Rafer Alston. Also, Pietrus changing his shoes meant that Kobe was in his head before the series even started. Two things the Magic did that changed all the good luck they had built up. They changed everything before the Finals and it cost them. Still an impressive run by a team playing two small forwards and Rafer Alston in their starting line up.
As for the Lakers,
TBL, May I request that you take off your Cavs goggles for a second. Look at this post. You immediately declare that it is unlikely that Ariza and Odom will stay with the Lakers. You don’t think this you just want this to happen so LeBron can finally lift the trophy next year or do it in your neck of the woods from 2010 on.
Yeah, they probably aren’t keeping both. Ariza stays and Odom goes. Odom has his ring now. I think he doesn’t like playing with Kobe. This was much more evident when the Lakers weren’t good about 3-4 years back. I believe that Odom sucked it up because he realized he had a legit chance at a title. I think Ariza stays because he loves to play with Kobe.
June 15th, 2009 at 8:52 am
We won’t have a Kobe-MJ discussion tomorrow. Not worth it
of course you wouldn’t
June 15th, 2009 at 9:56 am
does phil jackson retire?
Doubt it. He’s still got an in-his-prime Kobe and in-his-prime Gasol and a still-developing Bynum. If Farmar can take over PG duties from Fisher (who I could see retiring) and if they re-sign Trevor Ariza, they still got the majority of the guys who just won it all. They’ll need to find a replacement for Odom and I’d argue get another body to contribute off the bench — as Adam Morrison has done nothing for them except get a diabetic high from Odom’s candy bags.
