Yardwork: A Wild Night of Interleague Play
Baseball June 16th. 2009, 12:00pm
With last night being such a ridiculously quiet evening in baseball, it’s given everyone a chance to pile onto those who have excelled at disappointment. Yahoo Sports is pondering if this is the “Final Acta” while the New York Post has plastered it’s back cover with an official S.O.S. to Mets GM Omar Minaya. In other news, Jason Isringhausen will shockingly miss the rest of the season as he has a torn a ligament in his elbow.
Brewers 14, Indians 12: Milwaukee put six runs on the board in an awfully ugly eighth inning for the vaunted Indians bullpen. After J.J. Hardy flew out to begin the inning, here’s how the carnage went down — walk, walk, walk, single, Prince Fielder grand slam, single, walk, single. Fielder finished with six RBI and Ryan Braun added five, needing only a double to complete the cycle. Pedro Cerrano struck out 11 times and Roger Dorn committed a whopping five errors, but the biggest crime of all was The Wild Thing not getting a save opportunity and a chance to hear it from the crowd on Ricky Vaughn Bobblehead night.
Angels 9, Giants 7: Barry Zito was awful, going just 3 2/3 innings and allowing seven earned runs on 10 hits. He’s now 3-7 and appears to find all of this rather amusing. John Lackey wasn’t much better, but he managed to limit the damage to three runs on the 10 hits he allowed. Six different players homered in this game, including Pablo Sandoval, who went yard twice.
Since we didn’t get to see him last night, let’s honor this man appropriately:
And then there was the downside of The Wild Thing. I love how realistic this catch by Randy Quaid looks here:

Hopefully the Twins do better against the Pirates than the Tigers did.
Of course, everyone knows Pittsburgh > Detroit so that’s no surprise.

It’s quite entertaining watching Eric Wedge try to manage a bullpen with a lead in the late innings. Even when you have money on the Indians.

Wouldnt be surprised if they release or send him down today. Hes probably the worst pitcher in MLB.
June 16th, 2009 at 12:17 pm
I wish Penguin fans would just enjoy their victory instead of continuing to be obsessed with Detroit. Congratulations, you won, you can let it go now.

Props to Ed Harris for being the first 60 year old to pitch in the bigs

the problem with the Indians is that the people currently in their marketing department should be the ones making Shapiro’s decisions regarding player personnel
June 16th, 2009 at 12:26 pm
obviously you don’t know pittsburgh fans.
appalachian cousin fuckers don’t know the meaning of “winning with class.”

Ueker was on the ESPN telecast last night. He consistently called Steve Phillips “stevie” and forgot the other dude (I think it was Karl Ravech?) name.
June 16th, 2009 at 12:29 pm
Spencer- didn’t you heard Wilbon on PTI say that nothing is wrong with Pittsburgh. Nobody should hate on them.
June 16th, 2009 at 12:29 pm
good for Ueker. he’s a million times better than any ESPN announcer.
June 16th, 2009 at 12:30 pm
The hell with it. Dont worry no ones listening.
June 16th, 2009 at 12:30 pm

+4 for Prince’s first GS
the talent they have in their marketing department trumps the talent of the people in charge of the team…

Pittsburgh is a nicer city than Cleveland. The only problem is the dbags living there.
June 16th, 2009 at 12:36 pm
I always liked that Wilbon guy.
June 16th, 2009 at 12:36 pm
Good God. Just. Stop. It. Now.
“There are 100 games left in the season. If we don’t do something now, we’ll never make up a game on the Giants.” (the Giants lost after the column was written)
PANIC! PANIC!
