Yardwork: Lextra Innings
Baseball June 19th. 2009, 11:30am
Marlins 2, Red Sox 1, 6 innings: Thank you rain. The Marlins escaped Fenway with a win because the game was called due to inclement weather. Dan Uggla and Ronny Paulino both homered for the Marlins. Ricky Nolasco and Jon Lester both went the distance.
Padres 5, Mariners 4, 10 innings: Franklin Gutierrez went 2-for-4 with two homers and two strikeouts, but it just wasn’t enough. The Mariners used six pitchers last night. I think that’s a modern-day record.
Blue Jays 8, Phillies 7: This was a back-and-forth affair that featured seven home runs. Rod Barajas played the hero by hitting a pinch-hit homer in the 9th. Jeremy Accardo came in and got the final two outs for his first save of the season.
Nationals 3, Yankees 0: Yes, the Yankees lost their series with the Nationals. Can’t even pretend to blame this one on Wang. Craig Stamman earned his first career big league victory as he scattered six hits over 6 1/3 innings. A-Rod went 0-for-4 and left three on base. I guess we can blame him. [Ed. Damn right we can blame this cocksucker. Hey A-Rod - just go back on whatever you were using. We know you want to be clean and do things the right way, but it ain't working. At .212, it's pretty obvious that you should just pick up some HGH. The drug tests wont detect it.]
Orioles 4, Mets 3: The Mets gave up a run in the 8th and two in the 9th and K-Rod earned the blown save.
Rockies 4, Rays 3: Clint Barnes went 2-for-4 with a home run to lead Colorado. Matt Garza gave up four runs on three homers in five innings of work.
Twins 5, Pirates 1: Nick Blackburn went the distance (showoff) giving up a run on six hits for the Twins. Michael Cuddyer and Brian Buscher both hit long balls.
Cubs 6, White Sox 5: The White Sox bull pen did their best impression of the Mets’ bullpen, giving up five runs over the last two innings.
Diamondbacks 12, Royals 5: Eric Byrnes went 2-5 with two runs and two RBI’s. Everyone was super proud of him.

Way to quick post over the last story. People are still trying to digest the biggest sports media story of the year!
June 19th, 2009 at 11:37 am
The DUMBEST quote today, and that’s saying a lot. Totally A-Rods fault that they lost the series to the Nats!#&!(#&*(! All his fault. Always. No one else on the team. just him. Ever. He also pitches! Did you know that? yea, he pitches. Also, that .212 average? Yea, completely tearing this team apart, because he’s the only hitter not coming through in the clutch. He lacks clutchitude – which stems from a clear lack of clutchticity. Yes, it’s all his fault. The fact that you have proven this by stating his average shows no bias at all. AT ALL. Because, like, we all know that the Nationals were the SERIES! I mean, the biggest rivals the yanks have this year, are the Nats. Everyone is going to look back at THIS GAME and say “yea, that’s where we lost the season.”
Dumb.

How can you talk baseball at a time like this…I mean, it’s ARTIE LANGE
June 19th, 2009 at 11:37 am
Mets suck.
Phillies suck.
Yankees suck.
Braves finally remembered how to hit for a game… was a great day in baseball.
Tommy Hanson toses six shutout innings. He’s the truth.
June 19th, 2009 at 11:42 am
Tommy Hanson gets New York/Boston back to back next week and he walked four or five guys yesterday against the second worst hitting team in baseball. He’ll be a hoss (Jim Ross TM) someday, but he’s getting rocked next week.

GSG: perfect. i nearly forgot what kind of ignorant assholes some yankees fans could be.
June 19th, 2009 at 11:44 am
I checked Elias and that hasn’t happened against the Reds since 1954.
June 19th, 2009 at 11:45 am
Pat Burrell 0-1
1 HR 18 RBI .238 avg
June 19th, 2009 at 11:47 am
Hanson will get rocked at some point, of course. New to the bigs, but has all the talent and gets out of jams after walks.
I
pray forpredict a long, healthy career for the kid.June 19th, 2009 at 11:48 am
It’s June, and so this means the Twins will start playing well from here on out. This division is so weak, that they could win it with a record of 5 games over .500
June 19th, 2009 at 11:52 am
psst, pki. You can’t finish 5 games over .500 (weird circumstances like having to play a 163rd game aside)
Assuming the real Scott Baker is here to stay, Liriano keeps improving, and Blackburn and Perkins give them at least something, they’ll win the division. It would help if Gardy would play the right lineup more than once per week too.

Fetch – How could you not mention Slowey! He and Haren are the best things to happen to my fantasy team all year!
June 19th, 2009 at 11:55 am
SC- because I have no questions about Slowey. He’s the man.

What if you don’t have a chance to make up a rained out game, and only play 161?
June 19th, 2009 at 11:56 am
As a Liriano fantasy owner, I am unclear when this improvement occured, as I watched him be a sad little man against the Pirates (!!) the other day. Any perceived improvement seems to be because he’s been okay against National League rosters (as opposed to the godawfulness we saw against American Leage teams).
June 19th, 2009 at 11:56 am
Didn’t the Twins play 163 games last year?
June 19th, 2009 at 11:57 am
Baker on the other hand seems to have righted himself, though his underlying problems (home runs) is still there. Twins can certainly win that division, but I don’t think it’s gonna be because of liriano.
June 19th, 2009 at 11:59 am
That too.
that’s so taguchi. He did have a couple nice starts vs the Mariners and A’s, but mainly it’s from the fact that in the past when he made a bad pitch or two he would completely meltdown and that would be it, and now he snaps out of it and limits the damage.
The more pressing question though is why the fuck do you have him on your fantasy team? I don’t think Id want him in a 20 team league
June 19th, 2009 at 11:59 am
Ok, only gonna do this once because it feels wrong.

I am not a huge Balckburn fan, but I really think that the only way they will win, is if Baker, Slowey, and Perkins pitch well. Liriano just doesn’t look like he is very confident or accurate right now. I think Baker is getting better every start and should be ok the rest of the season.
The OF should look like this IMO: LF Span, CF Gomez, RF Cuddyer. Kubel subs in occasionally, but he needs to be the constant DH. Those 3 OF need to be out there every day.
/and yes Fetch I know Span is injured right now

Artie Lange is no longer the biggest story in sports. It’s been passed up by all the Guidos in the gallery at Bethpage Black.
/Don’t believe me? Watch ESPN’s coverage for five minutes.
June 19th, 2009 at 12:06 pm
Seconded. If they want to play Young every once and awhile in right go for it. Hopefully they get something halfway decent for him and can trade him.
June 19th, 2009 at 12:13 pm
blackburn’s like an AL version of zach Duke.
