A Death Rocks Iowa: Eventually, Hollywood will make a movie out of the splendid life of Ed Thomas, the legendary Iowa high school football coach who was a tragically slain yesterday by a destined-for-hell 24-year-old loser named Mark Becker. Becker and his father were both coached by Thomas; the families went to the same church. The kid’s had drug issues – meth – but what’s most disturbing is that he was arrested last weekend after he tore up a house with a baseball bat and ran from the boys in blue. They finally caught him when his car hit a deer at 90 mph. He was then taken to the hospital for a psychological evaluation. Police told the hospital not to cut him loose without notifying them; no communication took place (though the hospital denies such a request was made) and a day later, a community icon is dead.
