Would You Expect Anything Less from the Stubborn, Greedy Suits at the BCS?
1-liner, College Football June 25th. 2009, 4:00pmThe BCS Sucks: And now, for your least surprising news of the day. “The BCS’ Presidential Oversight Committee, in a Wednesday teleconference, heard conference-by-conference reports on the feasibility of implementing the Mountain West’s eight-team playoff plan, but the idea received ‘no traction’ from outside the MWC, committee chairman David Frohnmayer said.” Can’t wait for a journalist to probe deep into this story and find out just how wealthy some people are getting off this silly system … while robbing the fans (and players, one would assume) of what is fair and logical. Sigh. [USA Today]

Vince Carter to Magic for Lee, Battie, and Alston.
June 25th, 2009 at 4:09 pm
Does Vince actually try in the one city he’s still beloved?
June 25th, 2009 at 4:10 pm
WHOA! BIG TRADE!
Hey, in all seriousness on this post though…
If we take out our hatred for being robbed of great games in a playoff system…when can anyone realistically see the BCS going down? It has to be after the economy recovers because schools need the money.
And, being a Big Eleven alum, there isn’t a chance in hell you’re convincing our schools that we won’t get paid off on a major bowl game.
I don’t think there’s a playoff system in place in CFB for at least 7-10 years.
June 25th, 2009 at 4:11 pm
Whoa whoa guys, college football post…. Does ND get guaranteed a 1st round bye because of pure historical relvance????
/Sparty’d
June 25th, 2009 at 4:12 pm
wait what? ROOKIE SENSATION C LEE?
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooo
June 25th, 2009 at 4:14 pm
there’s just too much cash in the bowl system for the colleges to go to a playoff. it’s that simple.
June 25th, 2009 at 4:14 pm
It will never happen… as long as the commissioner’s of the bcs conferences play golf together and hang out at the same swingers parties, there will never be a playoff in college football
June 25th, 2009 at 4:14 pm
ND gets a first round bye because they will threaten to unleash catholic priests on small children worlwide if they don’t.
/boom goes the dynamite
Seriously though, the BCS sucks, everyone knows it, but the only people who can change the system make so much money that they feel changing the system is not worth the potential revenue growth. It is kind of a bird in hand is worth two in the air kind of thing.
June 25th, 2009 at 4:16 pm
Piss off MWC, beating a few Pac 10 teams and having Bama lay down doesn’t mean anyone outside of Boise wants to see your stupid teams play.
Vince Carter is massively overrated.
June 25th, 2009 at 4:16 pm
Vince Carter to Magic for Lee, Battie, and Alston.
Oh shit. Goodbye Hedo Turkoglu, too.
Sucks, Irish.
June 25th, 2009 at 4:17 pm

…Brazil has sucked mad ass in this game.
June 25th, 2009 at 4:18 pm

great trade for orlando…they’re even fucking better now.
June 25th, 2009 at 4:19 pm
Vince Carter is owed 51 million still (although the last 18 mill isn’t fully guaranteed).
June 25th, 2009 at 4:19 pm
So not even the Magic are going to copy the Magic’s offense?
June 25th, 2009 at 4:19 pm
I know, but i checked w/ a couple of sources who say it’s def better than 50/50 to happen.
June 25th, 2009 at 4:20 pm
Damn, irish. You’re better a team next year, but VC has a shit contract.
June 25th, 2009 at 4:20 pm
Brazil gets a cheap free kick right at the edge of the box, scores, S. Africa gets robbed.
June 25th, 2009 at 4:22 pm
I know, but i checked w/ a couple of sources who say it’s def better than 50/50 to happen
thanks. I dont want the Magic to lose Courtney Lee. love that kid. I could care less about Battie and Rafer.
@nickp- you really think so?
June 25th, 2009 at 4:22 pm
WE WANT BRA-ZIL (clap clap clap clap)
I can’t wait for a rose or sugar bowl appearance this year….
June 25th, 2009 at 4:23 pm
@NickP: English next time.
June 25th, 2009 at 4:24 pm
If Brazil plays like they did today on Sunday, USA should win. Of course they’ll play like they played in the first match and destroy us.
June 25th, 2009 at 4:24 pm
Will the Magic starting 5 look like this?
PG: Nelson, SG: Vince, SF: ?? Hedo is gone, right?, PF: Lewis, C: Howard
Who will be their SF? Pietris?
June 25th, 2009 at 4:25 pm
for ND?
shit man, cleveland is dry and it sounds like you’re smoking some killer herb…wanna send some this way?
June 25th, 2009 at 4:25 pm
If turkoglu comes back def yes, if not, very debatable. Vince can afford to disappear on a team with shard and mjot…
June 25th, 2009 at 4:25 pm
Ryan Anderson and Vince Carter
June 25th, 2009 at 4:25 pm
@irish: Yes. VC had a great season last year, even as Devin got all the pub.
June 25th, 2009 at 4:25 pm
great trade for orlando…they’re even fucking better now.
It’s okay Spence, we got the “Big Witness Protection” in Cleveland now.
June 25th, 2009 at 4:26 pm
Me too. Nothing is better than watching ND shit the bed against good teams on national television.
June 25th, 2009 at 4:27 pm
On February 9, the two teams met for an exhibition match at Madison Square Garden in order to practice for the upcoming competition. The Soviet Union won handily, 10-3.
June 25th, 2009 at 4:27 pm
Didn’t know you were a Penn State fan.
/ND sucks
June 25th, 2009 at 4:27 pm
I really don’t see why guys can’t see that ND is going to be disgustingly good next year.
June 25th, 2009 at 4:27 pm
o/t
Farrah Fawcett died too? Hmph. So much for slow day…
June 25th, 2009 at 4:29 pm
ha, this made me laugh more than anything else today.
God, they suck. And he should know.
June 25th, 2009 at 4:31 pm
beating up on shit, like Michigan, doesn’t make you a good team. You will see when Troy and Sparta put a whoopin’ on them in South Bend.
June 25th, 2009 at 4:32 pm
Best one I’ve heard so far, “Shaquer Heights.” (for people unfamiliar with the Superfund Site By the Lake, “Shaker Heights” is a historic and well known neighborhood)
June 25th, 2009 at 4:32 pm
because we follow college football.
and a win over hawaii is less impressive than a win over northwestern or miss state.

June 25th, 2009 at 4:34 pm
So did Duckworth.
June 25th, 2009 at 4:34 pm
chad johnson is a douche. i only am now seeing this stupid video he put together
June 25th, 2009 at 4:35 pm
Seriously? I bet you jerked off for hours watching the tape of ND beating Hawai’i. They lost to Syracuse last year. Yes, they will win 8, maybe 9 games, but let’t not kid ourselves. The only reason they will get to that number is because this is their schedule. Do you really think they are going to beat USC?
June 25th, 2009 at 4:36 pm
vince wears #15. Hedo wears #15
June 25th, 2009 at 4:36 pm
Dirt, I think I hear your theme song.
June 25th, 2009 at 4:37 pm
Fairly confident man considering MSU lost 95% of their offensive production last year (and still got spanked by the B10’s big boys).
June 25th, 2009 at 4:45 pm
fairly confident yourself considering PSU is gonna suck men this year.
June 25th, 2009 at 4:46 pm
our defense remains. it is going to be stout. our QB play will definitely be better. but yes, the running game is hurting. hoping the young recruits step it up.
June 25th, 2009 at 4:49 pm
Dirt, I think I hear your theme song.
I got it out of my system, I think.
June 25th, 2009 at 4:49 pm
giving up 400 yards rushing against beanie, dan herron and terrelle pryor stout?
im shaking in my buckeyes.
June 25th, 2009 at 4:52 pm

/no O$U on the schedule.

I love listening to a Big 10 fight…I picture little children hitting one another with pillows.
/runs and hides
June 25th, 2009 at 5:00 pm
that’s right, msu! getting better.
on a recruiting note: Did you hear that we stole Joe Boisture from Boston College? He decommitted today. I can’t remember the last time MSU landed 2 Top 5 at their position recruits in the same year, or should I say in a 2 week span. first Gholston, then Boisture.
June 25th, 2009 at 5:02 pm
Isn’t that an Oxymoron?
The only thing “big” about the B11 has been their losses out of conference in recent years.
June 25th, 2009 at 5:03 pm
Enjoy a 3 win season at Georgia!
June 25th, 2009 at 5:09 pm
The worst UGA will do is 8-4. Too bad the very best they will do is 10-2. 3 win seasons don’t happen at UGA under Richt.
June 25th, 2009 at 5:13 pm
I’ve got you guys pegged at 9-3.
June 25th, 2009 at 5:15 pm
When do you play Miss St? Mullen is gonna beat you.
June 25th, 2009 at 5:18 pm
Sounds about right. Florida is a gimme loss and LSU will be very tough, but UGA gets them at home. I think they will beat Ok St, but that is due to the fact that Ok St is a big 12 team who doesn’t play defense. They will move the ball on UGA, but with Richt having so long to prepare for them, I think they should handle it okay. I also think there will be an upset, whether it be losing to GT or at Arkansas. UGA seems to play poorly under Richt in weeks 2-5, and then they step it up…generally.
June 25th, 2009 at 5:19 pm
Not sure, but I know it isn’t this year.
June 25th, 2009 at 5:20 pm
We’ve got Miss St. on the road this year, and I’m not the least bit concerned.
June 25th, 2009 at 5:23 pm
I am very curious to see Tech play this year. They lost a lot on defense, but they bring back everyone on offense at the skill positions (not sure about the o-line). It will be interesting to see how teams play them now that they know Tech can run the system.
June 25th, 2009 at 5:27 pm
3 of the 5 on the o-line are returning starters, and the other two are a sophomore and a junior. The offense is going to be good. The defense lost a lot in the front seven, but the recruiting has been pretty good over the last couple of years. I am looking forward to seeing what the expanded version of the offense looks like though.
June 25th, 2009 at 5:29 pm
I’m glad the Hogs get them early, and at home. espn announced yesterday the game is going to be primetime and arkansas will be coming off their only bye week of the season (in fucking week 2, really?). I think the Hogs are going to come out and suprise some teams this year. can’t wait until football season starts.
June 25th, 2009 at 5:30 pm
A lot of running. I don’t care what you hear out of Johnson’s mouth in terms of throwing it, he isn’t going to. Tom Osborne used to always say he was going to throw it at NEB, but he never did because his system worked.
June 25th, 2009 at 5:33 pm
Should be interesting to see Mallett under Petrino. I have no clue about their other players, but I suspect they are at least another year away from having the type of WRs Petrino will want. UGA is so good on the road under Richt, that I am more confident in those games than I am the games at home, as wierd as that sounds.
June 25th, 2009 at 5:39 pm
I was thinking more in terms of creative ways to get the ball to Peeples and Roddy Jones. I like that you mention Osborne. If you read the fan blogs on ajc.com (and I try not to, they’re awful), the comment sections are full of “high school offense” this, and “gimmick” that. If I recall correctly, Osborne and Nebraska put a pretty severe beatdown on Darth Visor himself while running a so-called high school offense.
June 25th, 2009 at 5:56 pm
he’s actually got a couple of decent wr’s that were freshman last year but got a lot of playing time. if broderick green gets his transfer approved by the ncaa (yeah right) we will have a couple of decent backs that will allow the offense to open up. i think mallett’s redshirt season last year helped him out a ton. petrino said he barely scratched the surface with the offensive playbook last year. really it’s our defense that i more worried about than offense, the points will come. hopefully.

This BCS BS is so bad that I am not alone in being at the point where for the most part I enjoy only the Pac 10 schedule and certain matchups on rivalry weekends at the end now that the early non-conference schedule has been watered down so badly. Only the BCS Championship and maybe the Rose Bowl mean anything to me anymore otherwise in the postseason, and there is no more great New Year’s Day action the whole day any more.
June 26th, 2009 at 12:34 pm
For you SEC and Big Ten homers except an occasional Florida game, you can substitute your boring conferences for the Pac 10 in my above comment.
