Jennifer Capriati was once the number one rated women’s tennis player in the world.  She won three Grand Slam titles, an Olympic Gold Medal, and over $10 million in prize money.  She returned to the top after battling personal and drug troubles.  She was a great American athlete.  She also likely will appear no longer on WFAN.

Capriati was a “guest” on Boomer and Carton to promote her tennis event, “hilarity” ensued and, not surprisingly, the New York Post’s Phil Mushnick weighed in.

Monday, Carton and Boomer Esiason had on 33-year-old Jennifer Capriati, the now inactive tennis prodigy, once ranked No. 1 and the winner of three Grand Slam events. She apparently was under the impression she was on FAN to promote an event she and Jim Courier were headlining in Rockefeller Center. She seemed to have no idea who Carton is nor what he does. She likely thought he’s a let’s-talk-sports morning drive radio host. At first.

But, Carton soon began asking her about her body, and then whether she’d have sex with a woman, and then whether she’d engage in a threesome with him and another woman. She caught on; Carton’s another radio low-life bottom feeder, and she was the target of his ambush.

Mushnick crushes Carton, but obscures a more salient issue.  In the age of supposed equality, why is one of the most prominent female athletes of the past twenty-five years being subjected to sexual harassment?

Would Carton inquire about the sexual habits of male athletes?  Would Boomer have tolerated his partner asking such questions of someone who has played in “The National Football League?”  I’m guessing most radio hosts would not bring up condom usage while interviewing Shawn Kemp.

Is this double standard a serious issue, or is Carton a harmless, unfunny Howard Stern?
