NBA Free Agents Turn into Pumpkins at Midnight
Music, NBA, Video June 30th. 2009, 6:30pm
What will Carlos Boozer do? [UPDATE: He's staying!] Test the market, or tuck his tail between his legs and scurry back to Utah? In December he said he was as good as gone … my how times have changed. The Jazz still figure to be torn apart - Paul Millsap-to-the-Thunder sounds radical (see below), and Okur’s opting out. The Cavs look to be hot and heavy for Milwaukee’s Charlie Villanueva - who is sort of in the mold of Rashard Lewis, except he went to college (and won a title). Joe Dumars and the Pistons can gobble up a shooter and a PF, or just one, and wait for next year’s bumper crop to hit the market. The most-coveted players after the jump:
Hedo Turkoglu, Magic - Portland? Houston? Miami? Probably the most-coveted on this list.
Rasheed Wallace, Pistons - Makes sense for a contender.
Allen Iverson, Pistons - Have read zero about where he might end up.
Ben Gordon, Bulls - It’s the Pistons, right?
Paul Millsap, Jazz - If the Thunder get him, we’d love their chances of a significant improvement next year.
Trevor Ariza, Lakers - He’s going to get paid, by the Lakers or somebody else.
Lamar Odom, Lakers - Likely returning to the Lakers.
Jason Kidd, Mavs - The Knicks could be where he ends up.
Andre Miller, 76ers - Now Philly wants to keep him?
Shawn Marion, Raptors - If he’s not in the right system (read: run and gun), he’s a big waste of money.
Anderson Varejao, Cavs - He’s testing the waters. If he had held his own against Superman in the ECF, maybe there’d be interest.
Ron Artest, Rockets - Will the Yao injury steer him back to Houston?
David Lee, Knicks - Please don’t lose him …
Nate Robinson, Knicks - Back in NY for a year?
Two days to the holiday …

Am I missing something or didn’t the Jazz announce an hour or so ago that Boozer had re-signed?
June 30th, 2009 at 6:42 pm
Not sure Id take Boozer’s word for it.
June 30th, 2009 at 6:44 pm
Yup, Boozer is back. Of course, I think TBL rights these much earlier in the day then just posts them now. I think.
June 30th, 2009 at 6:44 pm
Although, good point, Duder.
June 30th, 2009 at 6:45 pm
Boozer staying. http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/bk/bkn/6505309.html
June 30th, 2009 at 6:46 pm
i bet it has something to do with fucking a team over. no one knows which team he will screw over but everyone knows that it will happen.
June 30th, 2009 at 6:47 pm
Ariza is going to get WAY overpaid. After watching him all year, you could tell he was in a contract year. A product of Kobe getting triple teamed. This reminds me of when Austin Croshere got that massive contract w/ the pacers.
June 30th, 2009 at 6:49 pm
thanks - this was written last night/this morning.
June 30th, 2009 at 6:49 pm
I’ve heard some rumblings of the Blazers going after Miller, espicially since it looks like Gordon is headed to Detroit which means the bulls won’t want to move hienrich anymore. Who knows…has anyone leaked what the cap is going to be?
June 30th, 2009 at 6:57 pm
Looks like a bag of crap to me.
June 30th, 2009 at 6:59 pm
My condolences on the recent Rockets news grungedave.
Rasheed Wallace makes sense for nobody, he is a shell of the player he was 3 years ago and still crazy as hell. Some pretty good players on that list, very interested as to where they end up.
June 30th, 2009 at 7:00 pm
He whats them?
/sportsgal
June 30th, 2009 at 7:02 pm
the bulls better sign a someone to help with the low post issues…or i might have to choke a bitch
June 30th, 2009 at 7:04 pm
Probably…and it will be a horrible signing.
June 30th, 2009 at 7:08 pm
Who cares about the NBA when the Rangers traded Scott Gomex today! HALLELUJAH! Now time for Glen Sather to throw a ridiculous sum of money at Marian Gaborik and start this vicious cycle of underachieveing and overpaid players all over again. Yipee!
June 30th, 2009 at 7:09 pm
TBL, it’s like I told you at the game in April…he’s not going anywhere. The media liked to speculate, but never once did I hear a credible Philly source say that they weren’t going to try and keep him.
June 30th, 2009 at 7:22 pm
Well if Ben Wallace takes a buy out there is always that option.
/ I remixed the remix and it was back to normal
June 30th, 2009 at 7:23 pm
Cavaliers. It really does make sense for the right price. A perimeter big man makes that a very scary team.
And I’m a Kobe guy. If they get ‘Sheed, I really like them to win the East. Shaq and LBJ can control that dude’s crazy attitude.
June 30th, 2009 at 7:24 pm
Good catch, fetch. I’m a moron. Good thing I’m not a writing major or anything…
June 30th, 2009 at 7:27 pm
lebron james before he was “king james” he apparently was a cop
June 30th, 2009 at 7:32 pm
No one controls Rasheed Wallace and his crazy attitude. He’s a perimeter big man minus the quicks, ballhandling ability and passing vision. His 6-foot-11, 240-pound ass should be on fucking block, not 22 feet away and chucking threes. Hedo and Rashard he is not.
But I see Cleveland as a destination. It’s highly unlikely they’ll take him back in Detroit.
June 30th, 2009 at 7:34 pm
Yeah, holding down D-Ho is so simple. What an asshole.
June 30th, 2009 at 7:35 pm
I think the Cavs have enough over the hill big men. They don’t need Rasheed.
June 30th, 2009 at 7:39 pm
2009 attendance figures. people in utah love their jazz.
June 30th, 2009 at 7:43 pm
How does attendance go over 100%? Isn’t that a fire hazard?
June 30th, 2009 at 7:44 pm
Okur stays with the Jazz as well. None of the potential 3 opted out; Korver, Boozer and Okur.
As a Cavs fan I would gladly take Rasheed of 2 to 3 years ago. Version 2009-2010, I will pass.
June 30th, 2009 at 7:47 pm
Kendrick Perkins managed to do it, never expected him to stop DHo, just slow him down.
Glad to see the Jazz keep everyone, when healthy they can contend, would like to see them add someone too.
June 30th, 2009 at 7:49 pm
ESPN saying Hedu to Toronto….
June 30th, 2009 at 7:50 pm
So you Kansas people…how is this playing out in the fly-over areas?
June 30th, 2009 at 7:55 pm
Cliff Lee is getting beat up. Hope the SOx pen can hold this shit later on.
June 30th, 2009 at 7:56 pm
People are tired of hearing Carl Henry talk. In his interview with the KC Star he said one thing, then did an interview with theshiver.com trying to spin everything he said to the star.
June 30th, 2009 at 7:58 pm
Felix Pie finally didn’t fuck up. What a refreshing thing that was.
Hope Adam Jones isn’t too sore after that wall collision. Wish he had robbed Youkilis’ douchey ass again. Just missed.
June 30th, 2009 at 8:01 pm
The Jazz need someone who is going to be a defensive force down low and protect the rim, as do a majority of NBA teams. They just don’t play well enough defensively to make it out of the West.
June 30th, 2009 at 8:02 pm
Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li out on DVD today!
June 30th, 2009 at 8:08 pm
I know you have a hard on for Kreuk, but even that doesn’t excuse this.
June 30th, 2009 at 8:13 pm
Street Fighter movies are almost Michael Bay-funny when high. No lie.
June 30th, 2009 at 8:15 pm
How is he not in AAA ball yet? Is he even hitting over .230?
June 30th, 2009 at 8:19 pm
I think he was hitting…223? Something like that. They didn’t think he’d clear waivers, so he’s still up with the club. He’s pissed me off all season.
June 30th, 2009 at 8:20 pm
/fixed
//seriously that dude is awful
June 30th, 2009 at 8:24 pm
I tend to agree.
June 30th, 2009 at 8:25 pm
It’s one of the few missed MacPhail has had with the O’s. But since we didn’t give up anything for him, I can deal.
June 30th, 2009 at 8:27 pm
Eastbound and Down on DVD today.
June 30th, 2009 at 8:30 pm
I have to say…I don’t really care if the Henrys leave. CJ won’t see the floor next year, and X is good but no one is good enough to pull shit like this. They’re good enough to win the title without him.
June 30th, 2009 at 8:34 pm
This was the WORST show I’ve ever seen…
June 30th, 2009 at 8:43 pm
What, did you expect comedy from a documentary? They really capture the essence of the area.
June 30th, 2009 at 8:54 pm
Standing room only seats.
June 30th, 2009 at 8:56 pm
Hey Fetch there’s a big rumor of Heatley to Edmonton going down tonight.
June 30th, 2009 at 8:56 pm
Where’s sportsgal so I can make fun of her for the fact that Brian Campbell makes more money than Jay Bouwmeester
June 30th, 2009 at 8:59 pm
And the Flames make the Flyers look like absolute fucking idiots. Congrats Sutter Brothers, you’re my new heroes!
June 30th, 2009 at 9:00 pm
Who would Edmonton give up? Their best guy is still in college (Riley Nash), and are they really one player away from contending?
June 30th, 2009 at 9:01 pm
what was the Flames-Flyers thing?
June 30th, 2009 at 9:03 pm
Fucking Wordpress ate my comment.
Congrats to Slats for getting rid of Gomez’s ridiculous contract and getting a halfway decent player in return.
June 30th, 2009 at 9:04 pm
Penner and Smid.
Flyers tried to get Bowmeister at the trade deadline and last week and failed. Calgary gave up next to nothing to get his negotiating rights, locked him up, and Philly traded two number one picks, their top defensive prospect, and a 25 goal scorer for one year of Pronger.
June 30th, 2009 at 9:05 pm
fetch - Just read up on Havlat. Flames, Canadiens, and Vancouver are the spots they are saying.
Hawks need a veteran not named Brian Campbell. Heard Khabi might go back to TB, too.
June 30th, 2009 at 9:06 pm
That’s all for Heatley? Penner is good but I don’t know I guess.
June 30th, 2009 at 9:08 pm
I just don’t want Heatley to goto the Rangers. He won’t change the fact that Henrik can’t win big games, and they still have horrendous contracts handed out Tampa style, but that mother fucker is lethal against the Penguins.
June 30th, 2009 at 9:09 pm
And let’s get this one out of the way: if we medal in Vancouver, the entire country should get set on fire like Detroit.
June 30th, 2009 at 9:13 pm
Hedo to Toronto would be awesome.
And why is Kobe opting to stay with the Lakers “breaking news” on ESPN?
This is lamer then that black guy who said the N word pretending to be Lebron James.
June 30th, 2009 at 9:16 pm
what are you guys talking aboot? umpire rotisserie league?
June 30th, 2009 at 9:16 pm
Ottawa is going to have to give away Heatley. $7.5 million a year for the next 5 years for a guy perceived to be a whiny little cockbag.
June 30th, 2009 at 9:19 pm
You may as well take tomorrow off, start of hockey free agency.
June 30th, 2009 at 9:22 pm
That Henrik thing isn’t fair at all. He stole 3 games in that Washington series and almost won a 4th but since Drury and Gomez couldn’t hit the ocean from the beach they didn’t win. In 2007 he was awesome for them and they lost to Buffalo because they lost ANOTHER 2-1 game in OT in game 5. One goal in big games? Thats atrocious. Other than that what big games has in been in? Olympics? He won a gold medal. I know Pens fans hate the Rangers but that opinion of Lundqvist is plain wrong.
And if the Rangers can move Rosival or Redden they will have brought in a goal scorer (Heatley or Hossa) kept the young kids AND shed an extra 5 million off the payroll. But knowing Sather none of that will happen and they’ll trade Callahan and Dubinsky away for turds.
June 30th, 2009 at 9:24 pm
Best. Lede. Ever.
June 30th, 2009 at 9:25 pm
The Cubs are bad at a lot of things. But they are definitely the worst team in the MLB at getting a runner in from 3rd with less than 2 outs. The absolute worst.
June 30th, 2009 at 9:26 pm
Hahahaha I was just goading you. I do think he is overrated though, because he plays in New York. But yeah he got hung out to dry by the organization this year by having essentially a corpse unit for offense.
If I were you I’d much rather have Heatley than Hossa though. Hossa doesn’t even remotely scare me anymore, now THAT guy can’t play games with anything on his mind, that’s for damn sure. Heatley killed a guy and his stats didn’t drop, that’s a star.
June 30th, 2009 at 9:27 pm
How does Ohlendorf’s ass taste? I bet it’s salty.
June 30th, 2009 at 9:28 pm
It’s almost 8:30 and Havlat hasn’t been resigned. There’s no way Chicago can sign him to a deal for more than 3 years when contracts for Kane, Toews, Keith and Versteeg are all up next year. Those four guys alone could get one of those crazy Detroit deals (10 yrs & staggered payment amounts) w/ Chicago if Tallon can pull it off.
June 30th, 2009 at 9:28 pm
mole - what are the rumored destinations for Hossa?
June 30th, 2009 at 9:28 pm
What the hell?!?
Oh, how the mighty have fallen…I guess. She’s been reduced to that, after once being the bitchy wife in The Godfather…I always wanted Michael to kill her. Not nearly as incompetent, or annoying as Sonny (especially him) or Connie, for that matter, but still a bitch.
June 30th, 2009 at 9:28 pm
Anyone who takes those players/deals deserves to be fired immediately. Redden is such a bag of shit.
June 30th, 2009 at 9:29 pm
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i’m not even watching the game and for some reason i know what you’re talking about.
June 30th, 2009 at 9:29 pm
Who’s Ohlendorf?
June 30th, 2009 at 9:30 pm
Jesus the Cubs have an awful lineup. Spending $40 million a year for an outfield of Soriano/Fukudome/Bradley is just criminal.
June 30th, 2009 at 9:31 pm
Ross Ohlendorf is the one who went to Princeton right?
June 30th, 2009 at 9:31 pm
A very very VERY mediocre at best fourth starter in the Pirates rotation who absolutely shut down the Cubs lineup tonight. And beaned the Fonz pretty hard.
June 30th, 2009 at 9:31 pm
We suck mole. But you just had your first winning month of June since 1996. People in glass houses….
June 30th, 2009 at 9:32 pm
Rangers aren’t getting Heatley because Sather has gone to bed. Big canasta game tomorrow. Also Ottawa asking for Staal or Dubinsky. Yeah right. Good luck with that. Looks like Edmonton or bust for Terry Murray.
Hossa is such a poor fit for them. Gaborik can’t stay healthy. But the Rangers will have one of those two guys. Sigh. On the bright side Wade Redden only has 5 years left of standing around and letting his man drive to the net unimpeded. Should be a good time.
June 30th, 2009 at 9:33 pm
Yeah he’s the one that did that paper on sabermetics.
Souvenir: I haven’t been paying attention to Hossa but I still think he stays with Detroit, his playoff performance coupled with the cap likely dropping next year fucked his value up. And he can’t afford to take another one year deal I don’t think, because he won’t be the best winger on the market next year.
June 30th, 2009 at 9:34 pm
yeah! what he said!
June 30th, 2009 at 9:34 pm
there’s also the common sense angle: uh, just drafted a PG, louis williams can play it (or try), and the real question is wouldn’t it make more sense to, say, sign gortat since Dalembert blows?
June 30th, 2009 at 9:36 pm
We have the 3rd highest payroll in baseball. Jim Hendry should be put in federal pound me in the ass prison.
11-13 in June. Awesome. And Aramis Ramirez coming back is not the answer. That shoulder isn’t going to be right all season.
June 30th, 2009 at 9:36 pm
Hey I predicted an 82 win season for the Pirates, their expectations are next to nothing and they have the payroll and ownership incompetence to match it. There’s no excuse for the Cubs having the assets they do and being so bad.
June 30th, 2009 at 9:36 pm
I read his thesis that he did at Princeton. It was fantastic.
June 30th, 2009 at 9:38 pm
HOW DARE YOU! Redden had 8 points on the powerplay last season. He only played 81 games. A true asset to the leagues 28th ranked PP.
June 30th, 2009 at 9:38 pm
oh and mole the cap is going up like 100k or something like that this year. At least I think that’s what I read.
June 30th, 2009 at 9:39 pm
Yeah I know I mean next year as in Summer of 2010. Cap numbers are always a bit behind the times because they’re based on sales from a year ago. I don’t think it will drop drastically but it’s going to drop maybe two million, and it is 100% the fault of the southern teams.
June 30th, 2009 at 9:40 pm
there’s also no excuse for the pirate giving all of their assets away like they do. at least my team is trying something…anything to be competitive. the pirates front office should be taken out of their offices and beaten for what they do to their fans every year.
June 30th, 2009 at 9:40 pm
Wow. We did just turn this NBA post into a NHL post awfully fast didn’t we?
Whoops.
June 30th, 2009 at 9:41 pm
You know, now that I think about it, Anaheim was dumb enough to take Ryan Whitney and give the Pens their top prospect and a 25 goal scorer, so maybe there is hope out there for you still.
June 30th, 2009 at 9:41 pm
re: Rasheed …
So the Magic slide Lewis to the 3, put Rasheed at 4, and VC at 2. you dont think that’d help the Magic?
otherwise, is Ryan Anderson your starter at PF? Do you put Pietrus and VC in the starting lineup, and have zero punch off the bench?
June 30th, 2009 at 9:42 pm
Sonny was a badass. How can you like The Godfather and not like Sonny?
June 30th, 2009 at 9:43 pm
Inexcusable would be holding on to Bay and Nady until their contracts run out this year and getting nothing for them because they already said they won’t re-sign.
June 30th, 2009 at 9:44 pm
Immediately thought Marlon Brando them remembered he died a few years ago.
June 30th, 2009 at 9:44 pm
Oh yes there is volleyball on right now. Fucking right.
June 30th, 2009 at 9:47 pm
Fetch you really like every sport.
June 30th, 2009 at 9:48 pm
maybe if the organization wasnt so eager to trade away proven players for “prospects players wouldnt be so quick to sign with other teams. maybe.
June 30th, 2009 at 9:48 pm
Braves/Phillies tied 4-4 in 9th.
June 30th, 2009 at 9:50 pm
Oh I agree, trust me they have the worst ownership in baseball and it needs to change. If MLB would let Cuban by the team like he wants to maybe that would help. They have one of the best stadiums in baseball and a strong fan base who just resent the shit out of the ownership for forcing players like Aramis Ramirez out and bringing in players like Matt Morris. Their last GM was horrific too, but I do like the moves made under the new regime for the most part, they’re getting more on their return than they used to that’s for damn sure.
June 30th, 2009 at 9:50 pm
I will admit I love me some niche sports.
June 30th, 2009 at 9:51 pm
coming soon: volleyballislife.wordpress.com presented by fetch
June 30th, 2009 at 9:52 pm
The Pirates are on the way up. Within a decade or so they’ll win that division.
June 30th, 2009 at 9:52 pm
*buy
June 30th, 2009 at 9:55 pm
did you just correct my “by” with a *buy? mole there are days when i say to myself “see self, mole isnt so bad.” but then you go and correct my grammar and totally destroy any positive shit i was thinking
June 30th, 2009 at 9:57 pm
I was correcting myself
June 30th, 2009 at 10:00 pm
Jesus, I didn’t mean Sonny. I mean Fredo. These anti-biotics are really messsing with me. I just fell asleep at my desk for 15minutes.
June 30th, 2009 at 10:00 pm
you just totally redeemed yourself.
June 30th, 2009 at 10:02 pm
I would take a folding chair over Sammy Dalembert at this point. It’d probably have better post moves, if nothing else.
June 30th, 2009 at 10:11 pm
So, who is the face of the Pirates now? Freddy Sanchez or Jack Wilson?
June 30th, 2009 at 10:14 pm
It should be PNC Park. Absolutely the best stadium in baseball, period. Make the stadium the face and the reason to watch baseball. At least the stadium won’t leave or be traded in 5 years.
/coming from someone who hates virtually all things Pittsburgh with a passion
June 30th, 2009 at 10:16 pm
Of the some 85+ baseball stadiums I’ve been to, Camden Yards is my favorite (I’m biased as an O’s fan), and PNC is the closest to it. Incredible stadium. Dodgertown is right there, too, with the Twins Spring Training facility in Ft. Meyers. Those four are well above the rest.
June 30th, 2009 at 10:16 pm
tim lewis…popcorn vendor…been with the pirates since 1986…
June 30th, 2009 at 10:18 pm
Nutting has only been the managing owner for 2.5 years or so. the new FO has done a fantastic job so far in my opinion. the milledge trade today was a perfect example. selling high on morgan to a team desperate for a good defensive outfielder. hanrahan has had terrible luck this year, and milledge is a higher ceiling, younger player. great move. loved the mclouth trade as well.
June 30th, 2009 at 10:18 pm
That, and Jack Wilson might be one of the ugliest ballplayers I’ve ever seen, 2nd to Jorge Cantu. Something about Wilson irks me.
June 30th, 2009 at 10:18 pm
Sanchez has been the face of the organization for several years. The fans absolutely adore him. He’s having a damn good season too.
June 30th, 2009 at 10:20 pm
But one of the best looking raccoons in sports.
June 30th, 2009 at 10:20 pm
Morgan was 29, so selling high on him was probably the right call. Who knows if he’s actually this good.
For all you hockey guys, apparently Morgan was a former hockey player.
June 30th, 2009 at 10:21 pm
what irks me about wilson is his bitching about the trades. dude, the players you had weren’t good enough to win. i get that you’ll miss your friends, but stfu and play ball.
June 30th, 2009 at 10:21 pm
Yep he played in the WHL. I loved Nyjer, even though he had no power, but that mother fucker could run. He had become a fan favorite this year, and was a great guy in the dugout, but it’s still a good trade.
June 30th, 2009 at 10:22 pm
Oh and Adam LaRoche better get traded or I take back every nice thing I’ve said about the new regime. You know someone is going to be dumb enough to take him. I think that move will be applauded by fans and make them forget about the McLouth trade.
June 30th, 2009 at 10:23 pm
No way. Morgan is from Pittsburgh and they love him there. Milledge is terrible. Guy has the motivation of a 16 year old stoner. 98/38 K/BB ratio? I don’t question his talent, I question his motivation and focus.
June 30th, 2009 at 10:25 pm
Tim is pretty clutch but the peanut guy,Mike, at the Jake is in a class by himself
June 30th, 2009 at 10:25 pm
If TBL has one more goddamn rap/black/urban music reference post not during the work day schedule, I’m gonna drop the c-word on him myself
June 30th, 2009 at 10:25 pm
dumbfuck fans will bitch, mole. laroche has never lived up to what he was billed as, and he’s too streaky for my liking.
June 30th, 2009 at 10:26 pm
I still remember the Zima guy from Bowie Baysox games. Oddly, he seemed to disappear right as Zima did…
June 30th, 2009 at 10:27 pm
OK, I have to harken back to last night’s chatter for a second.
#1: Mole - clogged drain, any drain, use a plunger. Especially the bathtub. It is far superior to any other thing you can do without a snake, and it’s cheap
#2: I have a lot of lamb shanks, and I had a recipe for braised lamb shanks that I thought I could grill. So I did, and it worked. This is my new thing for the rest of the summer, searing and braising on the grill. It made the dogs happy, too, although i’m gearing up to have to clean up vomited lamb bones any minute.
June 30th, 2009 at 10:29 pm
SC: 98/38 isn’t terrible. Not good, but not terrible.
Dear Ron Gardenhire,
fucking play Carlos Gomez every game, you hilljack fuck.
June 30th, 2009 at 10:30 pm
Anyone read the story about Xavier and CJ Henry? Here is the link,
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/basketball/ncaa/06/30/henry.kansas.ap/index.html
First they back out of Memphis when Calipari leaves and now they may not attend Kansas cause of a newspaper article and instead attend Kentucky.
June 30th, 2009 at 10:30 pm
I noticed you went past tense there. What recent show surpassed Eastbound and Down’s greatness
June 30th, 2009 at 10:31 pm
Um no he is not. He lived in California until he was sixteen when he moved to Canada to play hockey.
June 30th, 2009 at 10:34 pm
SC, nyjer has no value as a corner outfielder, which is what he was for the pirates. great defense, but zero power and for a fast guy makes WAY too many outs on the basepaths through bad decisions. this is as good as he’ll ever be, and he’s really not even as good as he’s playing.
June 30th, 2009 at 10:35 pm
By the by, great version of “How soon is now?”. I miss The Smiths.
June 30th, 2009 at 10:36 pm
The past tense was due to the fact that I’m trying to put it as far out of my mind as possible. Having a kidney stone removed might have more entertainment value.
June 30th, 2009 at 10:36 pm
thanks, tkmsu.
how awesome is the fire episode of the office? too awesome for words.
June 30th, 2009 at 10:37 pm
I don’t even know if LM will be playing a whole bunch. I think they’re looking to bring someone up, they have a few guys in Indy who have been murdering the ball the last month. Nyjer was fine when McLouth was in center because you still had power from one of those spots, but with Big Ern in center now you can’t really have two speed guys without power in your outfield.
June 30th, 2009 at 10:38 pm
That’ll teach me to trust sports talk radio here…. They said earlier when the trade was announced he was from Pitt. Man, I’m having an off day. 2 errors. Only a couple of singles.
Feel like Milton Bradley.
June 30th, 2009 at 10:38 pm
wow, just read that with their win tonight, the pirates have had 2 winning months in the same season for the first time since 1994. that is so crazy that it sounds incorrect.
June 30th, 2009 at 10:39 pm
Ah, it’s cool. Maybe they meant it in that they were the first big league team he played for? Who knows.
June 30th, 2009 at 10:40 pm
I though Gomez was the starter. Why isn’t he?
June 30th, 2009 at 10:40 pm
Sort of intrigued by this show now
June 30th, 2009 at 10:41 pm
both of those guys couldnt touch Mick Jardon’s beer vending skill at busch stadium though
/see what im doing here?
June 30th, 2009 at 10:42 pm
Fundamentals are a crutch for the talentless.
June 30th, 2009 at 10:42 pm
Because the Twins have the biggest combo of dumbfuck GM and manager in the game. And they think that Delmon Young needs to start.
The outfield needs to be Span/Gomez/someone 90% of the time. Otherwise it’s just retarded.
June 30th, 2009 at 10:43 pm
you know who else didn’t go to college?
June 30th, 2009 at 10:43 pm
tim duncan laughs at this
June 30th, 2009 at 10:43 pm
Sort of intrigued by this show now
If you love crassness, racism, homophobia, and bad stereotypes about the south, then by all means watch. Oh, and a true hatred of any attempt to act. From the legendary guy who was the 6th banana in Tropic Thunder, and the star of the Foot Fist Way, it’s Eastbound and Down, for the true loser in all of us.
June 30th, 2009 at 10:44 pm
Not gonna lie, I thought Eastboung & Down was hilarious. If that makes me an idiot, so be it.
June 30th, 2009 at 10:44 pm
hmmm i dont remember writing a tv show.
June 30th, 2009 at 10:44 pm
Michael Scott: I didnt go to business school.
You know who else didn’t go to business school? LeBron James. Tracy McGrady. Kobe Bryant. They went straight from high school to the NBA.
June 30th, 2009 at 10:45 pm
I still won’t change my stance on Milledge. I remember hearing about him when the Mets were waiting to bring him up. Was supposed to be the second coming of Willie Mays.
Just don’t see the drive in the kid to realize potential. I know, very subjective and he could turn it around but I’d favor him being a bust-out.
He also pulled a LeBron.
/new running joke?
June 30th, 2009 at 10:45 pm
Got it, fetch.
June 30th, 2009 at 10:47 pm
beat me to it mrejr
June 30th, 2009 at 10:47 pm
thing is SC, he probably has more value to the Pirates right now than Nyjer (or at least when he comes off the DL). if he starts to fulfill his potential, its a win.
June 30th, 2009 at 10:48 pm
oh and by the way…i finally saw gran torino…99 percent of the movie is a fucking comedy…seriously it was like watching a r-rated version of archie bunker. that movie gets 1 billion j-stars
June 30th, 2009 at 10:48 pm
Span single-handedly bringing my fantasy team out of the basement in Runs, BBs and OBP.
Our league has like 8 categories in batting…including Ks. There’s a guy in my league that has Uggla, Dunn, Jack Cust and Chris Davis. He’s like 125 Ks in front of everyone else.
June 30th, 2009 at 10:49 pm
yes gran torino is hilarious. racist with a heart of gold gets me every time.
June 30th, 2009 at 10:49 pm
The thing about E & D for me is that it makes me feel kind of racist. Like, I’m laughing at a white guy make stereotypical jokes about white southerners. But goddamn it if I don’t laugh every time I watch that show.
/Am I racist???
June 30th, 2009 at 10:50 pm
Wow, Pie just gunned somebody down at the plate. Who is he, Adam Jones?
/Please, in the name of everything that is holy, don’t be seriously hurt, Adam.
June 30th, 2009 at 10:50 pm
No. You’re young, from Jersey and a Notre Dame fan. You can’t help it.
June 30th, 2009 at 10:52 pm
Exactly, Jersey. I can’t help but laugh at some of those lines, even though they’re obvious and stupid most of the time.
June 30th, 2009 at 10:52 pm
Whew!!! Thank God.
/Wipes forehead
June 30th, 2009 at 10:53 pm
Lay off Jersey now, us Jerseyites get a bad rap for no reason, dammit.
June 30th, 2009 at 10:53 pm
Indians down 11-4, dont worry though Mike the Peanut Guy will keep everyone entertained
June 30th, 2009 at 10:53 pm
No. Thank Cheeseburger Charlie. You know, the one with the Decided Schematic Advantage.
/It just never gets old.
June 30th, 2009 at 10:54 pm
Actually, if he’s from North Jersey, I’ll allow it.
June 30th, 2009 at 10:54 pm
“get your fake-paddy ass on down the road these guys dont wanna be your bro and i dont blame them”
i about shit myself when he said that…that movie is full of great quotes.it is like the anchorman of dramas. and eastwood is on the mt rushmore of guys who could make a person piss themselves with fear just by looking at them. so is bobby d, tommy lee jones, ving rhames and bruce lee..when bruce got angry you knew it and you knew someone was gonna pay…with their blood
June 30th, 2009 at 10:54 pm
not to mention JerseyYo’s doppelganger is Jozy Altidore.
June 30th, 2009 at 10:55 pm
Wow, the O’s are actually making a game of this.
/Knocks on wood.
June 30th, 2009 at 10:55 pm
And don;t you fuckin forget it.
June 30th, 2009 at 10:57 pm
Fetch, I swear on my life… both times you’ve said that, it made me laugh so hard, I peed a little.
June 30th, 2009 at 10:57 pm
Shenanigans. I legitimately wouldn’t mind succeeding from the North in this instance. I want SJ to be it’s own state. We are absurdly different.
June 30th, 2009 at 10:57 pm
Always been one of my favorite Jerseyisms.
June 30th, 2009 at 10:58 pm
What? One is like a New Yawker. The other is like a Phillyguy.
/It’s all the same to anyone not on the East coast.
June 30th, 2009 at 11:00 pm
Fuck that, we make all the money, and you get all the cool shit. Do you know we are just getting Sonic up here. I can’t even find a WaWa’s until I hit the shore. Your probably closer to six flags and AC. South Jersey just makes me angry. Shit, you even get country stations. Now I am genuinely getting mad at south jersey.
/Or secretly jealous…
June 30th, 2009 at 11:00 pm
you might have a better chance of succeeding if you learned that the word was secede.
/burn
June 30th, 2009 at 11:03 pm
i just got out my jump to conclusions mat and came to the conclusion that the bulls arent gonna sign any one worth a fuck
June 30th, 2009 at 11:03 pm
True, you guys do have all the rich people. WaWa is the greatest store in the world (I can think of at least 6 within 3 miles of my house, but there’s one every 6 feet at the shore), Six Flags is…45min North, and AC is an hour East of me. Yeah, SJ rules.
But you can have the country stations. I despise country music.
Of course, everybody in SJ hates my hometown anyways. I get horrific reactions when people at bars ask where I’m from.
June 30th, 2009 at 11:05 pm
I’m chalking that one up to the drugs I’m on right now, Sir. Fucking fluid behind the eardrum. That shit is annoying as hell.
June 30th, 2009 at 11:06 pm
If In ever come into some windfall of cash Buckner, the first thing I’m doing is opening up a WaWa up here. I will literally make Billions of dollars.
June 30th, 2009 at 11:08 pm
Fuck that, going to seaside, there are literally wawa’s across the street from each other in tom’s river.
June 30th, 2009 at 11:09 pm
Bill Gates money, clearly.
June 30th, 2009 at 11:10 pm
Good lord TR is huge. But yeah, at the shore, it’s insane. There’s like 5 per town.
June 30th, 2009 at 11:11 pm
what the hell is a wawa
June 30th, 2009 at 11:16 pm
Greatest convenience stores of all-time. The MJ of convenience stores.
June 30th, 2009 at 11:17 pm
Imagine the best, cleanest, most amazing 7 eleven you’ve ever been to. Add a deli. Still not even close to being as a good as a typical WaWa.
June 30th, 2009 at 11:18 pm
Well put, Jerz.
June 30th, 2009 at 11:22 pm
Mrejr, I don’t care where you are…. check this out!!!!!
June 30th, 2009 at 11:22 pm
Red Sox have blown a huge lead! Awesome, O’s up 11-10..haha…umpiring behind home plate is terrible though. Jim Palmer is killing them. Anyone else see the Red Sox try to run off the field earlier in the game with only 2 outs? Idiots.
June 30th, 2009 at 11:24 pm
Haha, Papelfag!
June 30th, 2009 at 11:24 pm
Hilarious. So no spilled Coke in the middle of the aisle? No smashed twinkies? The hell with wawa.
June 30th, 2009 at 11:25 pm
I just threw up in my mouth a litt… a lot.
June 30th, 2009 at 11:28 pm
I immediately threw in a lip. It’s like dip porn.
June 30th, 2009 at 11:31 pm
Well this evening has turned around quickly. Fuck you Papleboner.
GO O’S!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
June 30th, 2009 at 11:33 pm
I’m really glad I kept the O’s game on. I wanted to turn it off in anger after falling behind 10-1. Rich Hill blew.
June 30th, 2009 at 11:36 pm
jersey that guy just bumped chris mccandless down a notch on my hero list.
June 30th, 2009 at 11:37 pm
Nice frame by Zaun.
This ump behind the plate has been terrible. Horribly inconsistent.
June 30th, 2009 at 11:44 pm
Red Sox fans will continue to hate Julio Lugo. Rightfully.
My MLB Network just crapped out right as Youk got hit.
June 30th, 2009 at 11:47 pm
Same here. Epic collapse by the Red Sox! Who is laughing now Red Sox, running off the field with 2 outs?!? Orioles Magic!
June 30th, 2009 at 11:48 pm
Not sure if anyone else is also watching SportsCenter but…anyone think that John Anderson is kind of a dick now?
All high and mighty because he’s hosting Wipeout? Seems to always make smarmy remarks on other guy’s catch phrases.
June 30th, 2009 at 11:49 pm
Heatley to Oilers agreed pending Heatley waiving no trade clause.
June 30th, 2009 at 11:51 pm
Orioles Magic indeed! I really can’t believe we came back. Saaaaaweet.
June 30th, 2009 at 11:54 pm
Umpiring was terrible behind the plate. Palmer crushed that guy, that was funny to hear, though very true.
Hopefully tWWL gives this some run and give’s the O’s their due….probably not.
June 30th, 2009 at 11:58 pm
mole - where you reading for all the updates?

July 1st, 2009 at 12:07 am
Is Heatley going to waive no trade to go there? This is a trade that makes neither team better as far as I’m concerned. Edmonton is still light years from contending. Especially in the west.
July 1st, 2009 at 12:10 am
Who knows, I mean he has spent some time in Alberta so I guess he has some connection to the area.
July 1st, 2009 at 12:12 am
I mean Ottawa sucks, and I know you have some hope of getting him, but as far as I’m concerned he’s the third best goal scorer in the East and getting him out of the conference is a good thing for me.
July 1st, 2009 at 12:14 am
Unless Scotty Van Pelt is on, we never get any love. Although I can’t say I entirely blame them, we haven’t sniffed the playoffs since I was 11.
July 1st, 2009 at 4:11 am
Annnnnnnnnnnnnnnd Heatley killed the trade, for now. What a dick. Why can’t someone devise a no trade clause which doesn’t apply when the player demands to be traded?
July 1st, 2009 at 8:50 am
Villanueva - who is sort of in the mold of Rashard Lewis, except he went to college (and won a title)
This past season, Rashard Lewis of your Eastern Conference champion Orlando Magic made exactly 220 3-point baskets, good for the top spot on the league’s long-distance leaderboard. In fact, not only was it the NBA’s top mark, it was actually the second straight season that Lewis made more than 220 threes, as he had already knocked down 226 bombs in 2008. Now, making 220 3-pointers in any given season is quite a feat in and of itself — it’s only been done 18 times in NBA history, by 13 different players — but two seasons (consecutively, no less) is an accomplishment of even greater proportions
Let me know when Chuck can make it rain
