For Those of You Not Hungover … Tennis
Tennis July 3rd. 2009, 8:00am
ESPN and NBC will tag team the Wimbledon semifinals this morning: First up is a virtual road game for Andy Roddick, as he takes on British prodigal son Andy Murray. Roddick’s an underdog, and he’s been to the Finals twice but lost both times (Federer). Here’s an obligatory link to his wife, Brooklyn Decker.
The other match pits the GOAT, Roger Federer, against the 31-year-old German, Tommy Haas. This is the first time Haas has been this far at the All England Club; he’s never been to the finals of a Grand Slam event. No need to rehash Federer’s resume; he’s won Wimbledon five of the last six years.

How is Andy Murray prodigal, exactly?

saw transformers last night. it looked like i was seeing a close up from a shitty cameraman during the fight scenes. it was hard to tell what was happening

I don’t think TBL knows what prodigal means. Fun fact (well, not fun, actually) about Andy Murray is that he was in the classroom when this happened.
July 3rd, 2009 at 8:37 am
ugh, tennis….i’d rather be hung over.
July 3rd, 2009 at 8:40 am
Yeah, that’s the opposite of a fun fact.
I didn’t think TBL knew what prodigal meant either. I don’t think a lot of people know what it means. So many, in fact, that there will probably be a new meaning to accomodate all the misusage, like with enormity.
July 3rd, 2009 at 8:40 am
He obviously does not. TBL, you probably shouldn’t use the term “prodigal son”, unless you know it’s meaning. Because there is nothing “prodigal” about Andy Murray…

Dirt, you are so correct…I hear people using “prodigal son” in place of “native son” so much. They don’t even remotely mean the same thing.

Just be thankful the tennis you get to see isn’t being played by her, although the all Williams final isn’t my cup of tea either.
July 3rd, 2009 at 8:46 am
haha, thanks for that image, Dirt.
I’ll be glad when Wimbeldon is over so i can start listening to Mad Dog again.
July 3rd, 2009 at 8:51 am
haha, thanks for that image, Dirt.
Thanks Hernia. He put that disgusting image in my head. I’m just passing along the pain.

Is NBC going to show a tennis match people are actually interested in, or will they show a replay of Borg/McEnroe or Federer/Nadal?
/hey, it’ll get higher ratings!
//look at yesterday’s post

A pregnant chick made the semis? I guess that’s not too surprising since two chicks with cocks made the finals, but still doesn’t say much about the competition level on the women’s side.
/equal pay’d!

So I have some good news on the energy costs front.
Among the types of fuel I have to buy is propane. Last year, this time, I had to pay my propane distributor $199 for the privilege to lock my propane price at $2.85. When I didn’t, the price shot to $5.37 (they were willing to backdate it).
This year, I was asked to pay them $99, to lock my price in at 2.30/gallon.
It’s my first clear indicator of what the winter is going to be like, price wise.
July 3rd, 2009 at 9:20 am
how is heating oil looking in your area, Dirt?
it’s 2.08/gallon in my NJ area.
July 3rd, 2009 at 9:25 am
Propane guys are the effing scum that floats on the scum in your septic tank. As soon as it’s legal for me to own my own 100 gallon tank, I’m so done with those asshats.
Paid 2.30ish for my last oil fill up (two months ago) in central CT.
July 3rd, 2009 at 9:26 am
Dirt - If you have to pay to guard against price increases, do they refund the difference if the actual price is lower than what you locked in?

Of course not, it’s an oil company.
I’d dance naked in the street for 2.08 a gallon.
our cash price now is 2.29, and they’re still being coy re: a prebuy price.

Glad I live in an area where I don’t really have to worry about heating costs. I think I ran the heat 30 days last year.
/but $300 electricity bills in July because you never turned the air off sucks ass
Haaaaaaaas is in deep shit

hank hill is my favorite propane salesman. i would link to a king of the hill episode if i knew how.
July 3rd, 2009 at 9:47 am
We use a pellet stove for our family room, keep the thermostat fairly low, and still had electricity bills of $450-600 per month last winter. Yeah, that power de-regulation worked out pretty good here in MD.

No real life propane guys are like Hank Hill. They’re all actually like Thatherton.
July 3rd, 2009 at 9:49 am
OK, since there’s obviously no roundup of links, I’ve got one.
you won’t believe this
Dirty, you use electricity to heat (plus wood pellets)?
July 3rd, 2009 at 9:57 am
Dirt - Yep. The whole house is electric, and for a few of those months the wife was home full-time with the baby. But it’s still a ridiculous amount of money to pay utilities. It’s not like I’ve got some Shaq-sized house either.
July 3rd, 2009 at 9:59 am
Amazing stat. Federer is the only person to ever get to 7 straight Wimbeldon semis and if he can close out Haas it becomes 7 straight finals. Wow.

That is a ton, although electric is so difficult to heat with. We were home all winter (from October through now) with a baby of our own, but I don’t think I paid anywhere near that much, and I’ve got Maryland crushed on cold weather.
We burn wood in the living room, a lot of it, and our thermostat is set really low (heat to 65, then stop).

Anyone know if nbc will have the murray-roddick match live?
July 3rd, 2009 at 10:40 am
I found this:
By the way, does anyone know why Google Chrome just blocked TBL because there is malware on the page?
July 3rd, 2009 at 11:06 am
NBC was obviously hoping for a longer Federer match so they could show most of the Andys, now it looks like they may just get in after 2 sets.
July 3rd, 2009 at 11:09 am
Wow - setting the thermostat to 65 is pretty aggressive. I could deal with that but the wife would whine. I like it colder, she likes it hot.
July 3rd, 2009 at 11:18 am
NBC is the dumbest fucking network on tv, and that says something. Heaven forbid the country would miss Rachel Ray’s sould-crushing show. So instead of showing the match live, they will come on the air with at least 2 sets down (Roddick won the first 6-4). Color me shocked that they are consistently in last place in the ratings. Fucking idiots.
July 3rd, 2009 at 11:19 am
Roddick broken in first game of second set.
July 3rd, 2009 at 11:21 am
Why show a Roddick-Murray semi when you can watch Kathie Lee Gifford on the Today show and Rachel Ray? Hey NBC - Everyone is off work today, you don’t have to run your usual estrogen-heavy lineup.

July 3rd, 2009 at 12:23 pm
Yes, well aware of Murray background… Well aware of ‘prodigal’ as well
