Sweet! Robots Will Soon Be Able to Solve those Much-Discussed Derek Jeter Defensive Questions!
Baseball, College Basketball, College Football, Media Gossip/Musings, Tim Tebow, UFC July 10th. 2009, 6:00pm
Thanks to cameras and software, baseball’s about to find the answers to questions that have befuddled front offices (and fans!) for years:
Which shortstops reach the hard-hit grounders up the middle? Which base runners take the fastest path from first base to third? Which right fielders charge the ball quickest and then throw the ball hardest and most accurately?
We’re thrilled because this conversation is more tired than Shaq’s lazy eye.
A few odds and ends heading into the big UFC weekend:
* Yes, that’s us trying (and failing!) to keep up with the funny of Joe Sports Fan and Sports Hernia.
* Tebow speaks! We’re going to try to ignore Tebow-related stuff (unless we can ‘break’ another story about one of his girlfriends; break is in parens because nobody got her name) until the week of the Sept. 19 game against Tennessee.
* The reporter who was dry-humped by Rampage Jackson? Spoke to Traina over at Hot Clicks. Didn’t seem to thrilled with Jackson’s antics.
* We’re stunned that Orlando got Brandon Bass. We can easily see him as a 10-10 guy – maybe more if he gets the minutes. He’s like a younger, more active Charles Oakley inside. This should allow Orlando to put VC, Lewis and Pietrus to the perimeter and have them jack shots all night. Maybe it’s Friday, and we’re just itching to crack a brew, but based on this signing, we’ve got Orlando as the preseason team to beat in the East. (We’ve still got the Lakers in the West, but that could change if Odom doesn’t stay.)
* The Rap Sheet in Alabama is no mas. Ian Rapoport is leaving the Birmingham News to cover the Patriots for the Boston Herald. This guy’s going from one locked-down program with an annoying but successful coach (Saban) to another one (Belichick).
* And we’ll leave you with a story that we’ll pick up next week, for sure – “Krzyzewski’s got one thing he needs to do over the next few years: restore Duke basketball.” Those are the words of John Feinstein, speaking about a guy he usually holds in high regard – Coach K. (And he’s totally right.) We asked a similar question to next week’s interview subject (hint: It’s coming on Tuesday).
Weekend schedule … there isn’t one. We’ll post as we see fit. That means, if you email us a link/video/tip/screengrab/whatever that hasn’t popped, and we’re in the bagel store/gym/beach/backyard, one of us will scurry home quickly and toss up a post.

Selena Roberts? Cool!
July 10th, 2009 at 6:06 pm
is this some bizzaro pm roundup?
July 10th, 2009 at 6:08 pm
The Hornets could use a guy like him.
/fucking Byron Scott
July 10th, 2009 at 6:08 pm
Braves deal Francoeur to NYM for Ryan Church. I’m both excited and heartbroken.
July 10th, 2009 at 6:12 pm
wow a pm round up like post. me likey.
July 10th, 2009 at 6:13 pm
Link
July 10th, 2009 at 6:14 pm
Omar Minaya is officially mentally retarded. Plus Francoeur’s WHITE!
July 10th, 2009 at 6:15 pm
Dear Royals,
Nice Yuniesky trade
Signed,
The AL Central
/snickers
July 10th, 2009 at 6:15 pm
You should be excited lefty diaz/mclouth/church isn’t a good major league outfield, but at least it’s a real major leauge outfield.
July 10th, 2009 at 6:16 pm
Nice Yuniesky trade
Signed,
The AL Central
/snickers
I cannot wait for the Posnanski post on this.
July 10th, 2009 at 6:16 pm
The Braves are ahead of the Mets in the standings. And I’m guessing they don’t want to fall back either, ASSHOLES.
July 10th, 2009 at 6:19 pm
You have to figure Church’s power numbers will get a bit of a boost by getting out of that monster of a stadium in NY.
I saw the story on ESPN, from Buster Olney, and it still took me five minutes to find a link, and the Baltimore Sun is the only one that had it???
July 10th, 2009 at 6:24 pm
My point, younglefty, as you probably know, is that you don’t trade in your division, with a team that’s behind you, unless you think it can help you too.
But the first MSM report only looks at the trade from the New York perspective.
July 10th, 2009 at 6:27 pm
I gotcha Jay. That’a a bad bad deal for the Mets. Frank Wren is really trying hard to change my opinion of him. Maybe some of the Scheurholz magic is finally rubbing off on him.
July 10th, 2009 at 6:28 pm
Fuck Frenchie. But I feel bad for him… you know he hates the Mets as an Atlanta native and then ballplayer.
July 10th, 2009 at 6:29 pm
Here’s a better link.
July 10th, 2009 at 6:31 pm
The more I think about it the worse that deal is. Not only did Wren manage to get something of value for Franceour but Minaya managed to make the Mets offense worse. That should have been one of those impossible to solve mental puzzles, but Minaya did it. Wow, it must suck to be a Mets fan.
July 10th, 2009 at 6:32 pm
On the FAN, Beningo and Roberts–subbing for Francesa–LOVE this trade.
If lefty’s link doesn’t work, try this one.
July 10th, 2009 at 6:32 pm
I believe he was actually a Red Sox fan growing up.. so yeah probably not a big fan of the Mets.
July 10th, 2009 at 6:33 pm
It not like he never lived in Louisiana or anything.
/still dead
July 10th, 2009 at 6:36 pm
Franceour is 90th out of 94 among qualifiers in OPS in the NL right now. Last year of the 73 players that qualified at the end of the season Francour was 70th. And he’s a corner outfielder!
July 10th, 2009 at 6:36 pm
That’s the same AP copy as the ajc link, tommy. Why do they love it so much? Frenchy’s power numbers aren’t going to get any better in that park. I’ll admit, I hate seeing Francoeur go, but it’s 100% sentimental. His hometown is less than ten miles from where I grew up.
July 10th, 2009 at 6:41 pm
The old ‘change of scenery’ argument, lefty. As well Francouer’s potential, considering his first two seasons. They soured on Church, stating that his best days are behind him, and that the Mets may have gotten the best of Ryan Church before last year’s concussion.
July 10th, 2009 at 6:46 pm
Neyer on how dumb the Royals are:
3. Betancourt does not reach base with any frequency, nor does he reach ground balls with any frequency; according to Ultimate Zone Rating, Betancourt’s been the worst shortstop in the majors this season. By a lot.
As bad as the Royals’ shortstops have been, hitting-wise, Betancourt will give most of those runs back with his lousy range. Still, you could almost justify a deal like this if the Royals were trying to make a short-term improvement in the chase for a short-term reward. But that’s not what is happening here. The Royals are already finished this year, and Betancourt is signed through 2012. It’s apparent that the Royals — and more specifically, Dayton Moore — see Betancourt playing a significant role in the franchise’s future.
Which should be enough to scare the socks off any living Royals fan.
July 10th, 2009 at 7:08 pm
Caulton Tudor?
July 10th, 2009 at 7:18 pm
both incorrect guesses on the interview
a bit surprised to hear LOVE for Francoeur. i guess he was once real good, so maybe he can become good again … I bet Francesa is thrilled. didn’t he have friction with Church last year?
July 10th, 2009 at 7:24 pm
anyone watching the UFC weigh-in on ESPN news?
lesnar is an absolute beast. no way he loses tomorrow.
July 10th, 2009 at 7:28 pm
Am I the only person that can’t remember a “favorite” all star game? I couldn’t even tell you what year Bud called it a fucking tie, and that was by far my favorite one.
July 10th, 2009 at 7:31 pm
Artie Lang?
July 10th, 2009 at 7:31 pm
thats what everyone thought last time.
July 10th, 2009 at 7:33 pm
Lesnar is freakish on TV, frightening up close. You can’t imagine how big that guy is.
July 10th, 2009 at 7:35 pm
Ummm….he won last time he fought.
July 10th, 2009 at 7:37 pm
i was talking about the last time he fought mir…nice try though. and i have seen lesnar live and in person when he was with the wwe. he is abnormally big. i hate to think of the food bill when he was hitting puberty
July 10th, 2009 at 7:41 pm
Mir by ankle lock, 2nd or 3rd round. Lesnar comes out like a bull in a china shop though and just throws hammers.
/feel like I’ve said that before…
July 10th, 2009 at 7:41 pm
Lesnar’s tat is the best thing to happen in professional wrestling since Chris Benoit.
July 10th, 2009 at 7:43 pm
mrejr – specifying is always a nice thing. I ran into him a couple times in bars around here. Damned monster, he is.
July 10th, 2009 at 7:44 pm
Am I the only person that can’t remember a “favorite†all star game? I couldn’t even tell you what year Bud called it a fucking tie, and that was by far my favorite one.
I had an answer, but it helps that I quit watching all star games a long time ago. 1987, because Eric Davis batted cleanup for his team, and leadoff in the Allstar game.
P.S. That podcast had some problems.
July 10th, 2009 at 7:45 pm
Didn’t Lesnar try to make it in the NFL?
That didn’t work, although I did hear he got in lots of training camp fights.
July 10th, 2009 at 7:51 pm
lesnar was actually in madden 2005(or 2006), a few wwe video games and now the ufc video game. thats quite impressive
July 10th, 2009 at 7:52 pm
I watch MMA pay per views Sunday morning (and I’m talking specifically to CRM here, get that link up), but I saw the first Mir/Lesnar fight. If Mir avoids getting bludgeoned immediately, Lesnar’s own wrestling style will get him submitted again, I think.
If Mir gets popped, he could be done in 20 seconds too.
July 10th, 2009 at 7:52 pm
1995, but only because I was there. Nomo started for the NL, which was cool. Jeff Conine was MVP; he has to be one of the most unlikely all-star mvps ever. I don’t really remember much about the game. Other than that, fuck no, I don’t remember all-star games.
July 10th, 2009 at 7:56 pm
That didn’t work, although I did hear he got in lots of training camp fights.
Lesnar thought that wrestling was too hard so he went with pro football and MMA. Keep that in mind.
July 10th, 2009 at 7:57 pm
if lesnar doesnt go berserker and plays cut-off the ring with mir he will land that big shot and end it. but mir’s stand-up inst too shabby so i expect brock to go straight for the ground and pound. again if he stays calm he will end it but if he gets nuts he will get tapped…quickly
July 10th, 2009 at 7:59 pm
He was right to, because those guys die at age 49. Football players live to be at least 55.
But he was still wrong, otherwise he’d be playing football.
July 10th, 2009 at 8:00 pm
Lesnar thought that wrestling was too hard so he went with pro football and MMA. Keep that in mind.
He got sick of the vagabond lifestyle, just like a lot of dudes. Remember when Ultraman (Nathan Jones) was a wrestler for a while? Imagine that dude, going from city to city, pretending to be an escaped Australian convict and having to lose to other guys, when he was close to being the actual strongest man in the world?
Wrestling chews them up and spits them out. Lesnar is lucky to see that shit in his rear view mirror.
July 10th, 2009 at 8:03 pm
Except Nathan Jones was a terrible wrestler, and Brock Lesnar was both good and headlining Wrestlemanias. If Nathan Jones had not sucked he’d almost certainly still be seeing that shit in his front mirror.
July 10th, 2009 at 8:04 pm
ha nathan jones….i remember all the vignettes they had of him. was really hyped up and lasted about 6 months. i think they tried to have him and matt morgan team up. dont remeber real well
July 10th, 2009 at 8:05 pm
There are front mirrors?
July 10th, 2009 at 8:07 pm
Nathan Jones was supposed to tag with Undertaker against Albert and somebody after what your talking about Mrejr (they’d decided his new gimmick was learning to wrestle from taker because he was so bad) and then they decided at the last minute to have taker wrestle the two guys by himself because Jones would ruin Wrestlemania.
July 10th, 2009 at 8:07 pm
in illinois we call them eyes
July 10th, 2009 at 8:08 pm
yeah …and then jones ran in and made the save at the last minute.
July 10th, 2009 at 8:09 pm
He wasn’t good at the moves, you’re right. He really shouldn’t have been doing it, but he was also grossed out by it.
Prior to that, he was most famously known for getting his arm snapped by Magnus Samuelson in an arm wrestling match.
Now he’s the big guy in bad movies. Brad Pitt killed him in Troy, and Jet Li didn’t kill him in some other movie.
There are front mirrors, but they’re for seeing the past.
July 10th, 2009 at 8:11 pm
that was deep dirt. that belongs in a song
July 10th, 2009 at 8:12 pm
want to see some terrible mixed martial arts? Here’s Nathan Jones versus a big fat Japanese guy who has to wear belted pants. It’s terrible.
Don’t click this unless you like things that are terrible.
July 10th, 2009 at 8:16 pm
dirt that fight reminded of I’m gonna get you sukka when Hammer and that one dude were fake fighting
July 10th, 2009 at 8:22 pm
Exactly. I can’t get over the belt on that fat Japanese guy. I guess elastic waist pants might fall down. He looked like he was going to paint a house.
July 10th, 2009 at 8:24 pm
jones did that crescent kick like “look at me and my cool fucking kick…hiya!” he even looked at the crowd like “did you see that shit?! i’m so awesome!”
July 10th, 2009 at 8:28 pm
nothing like a chris benoit mention on a friday night. well done
July 10th, 2009 at 8:32 pm

‘Nuff said.

probably too late. Somehow McNair’s girlfriend was involved.
July 10th, 2009 at 9:06 pm
Artie is uncomfortable in social situations on account of his social anxiety disorder. He just made a poor decision because of his disease.
July 10th, 2009 at 9:07 pm
does that mean artie is gonna die in a few days?
/crosses fingers
July 10th, 2009 at 9:08 pm
feel terrible for Artie (posted link earlier, i think). the guy was cleaning his act up and now he’s drinking AND driving during the day? guess 2 weeks off for stern was too much time for the guy to keep his nose clean.
eager to hear monday’s show, for sure.
July 10th, 2009 at 9:13 pm

Music playing during the earthquake scene in knocked up. sounded cool. what was that song? oh, let me google … bam. got it.

July 10th, 2009 at 9:46 pm
no country for old men on encore in about 45 minutes. but before that …Sudden Death with jean claude van damme. should have won an oscar
July 10th, 2009 at 9:47 pm

TBL – There’s always JustinTV or a site like that one. Hard to find a stream that isn’t laggy or gets shutdown quick.
July 10th, 2009 at 9:54 pm
not that any commenter on this site condones watching an illegal stream right?
July 10th, 2009 at 9:55 pm
“What say there fuzzy britches, feel like talkin?!”
the warden on shawshank is a great character
July 10th, 2009 at 9:55 pm
Why whatever are you talking about? I ALWAYS pay Dana White and Direct TV their price for a PPV!
July 10th, 2009 at 9:57 pm
Oh me too! if i happen to click on a live stream i quickly call the ufc offices and have it put down like a rabid dog.
July 10th, 2009 at 9:58 pm
there will be a post tomorrow night … i really hope a few of you post links to the online viewings. at the very, very least, email me about that shit. please. thanks.
July 10th, 2009 at 9:59 pm
Ha i just paused it when they froze on that poster? Who is that bitch? That poster would be hot if it came out today. Racquel Welch?
July 10th, 2009 at 10:00 pm
Trust me TBL, there’ll be a few that crop up. Always are.
July 10th, 2009 at 10:00 pm
Joe’s on Weed is where I’ll be headed. Only paid for 1 PPV my whole life. Starcade ‘99 baby!
There’s an OTB across the street for the early portion of the day.
/degenerate’d
July 10th, 2009 at 10:01 pm
tbl if we post the links they will get shut down faster than fuck. so if i happen across one or someone tells me i will email it to ya. i however am going to actually shell out the 44.95 so i can watch it uninterrupted. i will be giving live updates right here so i expect a chunk of ad revenue accrued during the ppv.
July 10th, 2009 at 10:04 pm
raquel weltch indeed. if jpq was here he could tell you all about her.
/he’s old
//even funnier because he isnt here
July 10th, 2009 at 10:06 pm
Yeah just got confirmation from Red on Raquel.
Gotta love the films where the good guy gets away with all the cash and the bad dudes kill themselves out of pity and embarrassment.
July 10th, 2009 at 10:08 pm
the warden is really what makes the movie. if he wasnt such a prick (and the actor didnt obviously really enjoy the role) andy and red wouldnt be that interesting
July 10th, 2009 at 10:10 pm
Th warden in that was just a really sympathetic guy in something, drove me insane.

Also, just finished last night’s TNA in the background. Don West make’s Lord Alfred Hayes look like Gorilla Monsoon.
July 10th, 2009 at 10:13 pm
yeah he is the type of dude who was born to play pricks. like gary oldman or R. Lee Ermey
July 10th, 2009 at 10:17 pm
OH he was the liberal president’s bumbling advisor in last season’s 24. And he was nice. Unacceptable.
July 10th, 2009 at 10:18 pm
God dammit this movie always gets me
July 10th, 2009 at 10:18 pm
don west’s heel turn on top of his turrible announcing makes him even more unlikeable. he thinks being a heel is just saying nice things about the heels.
July 10th, 2009 at 10:20 pm
I can’t imagine how TNA has managed to last what, 7 years, and never fired that guy. I don’t care if Heenan sounds like The Crypt Keeper now move him to Florida. What the hell is Ventura doing?
July 10th, 2009 at 10:22 pm
Oh sick, Yanks game just started. Holler, forgot all about them while watching Andy kick life’s ass.
July 10th, 2009 at 10:22 pm
Agreed, I’ll never forget when Dibiase won the Million Dollar Title back from Jake Roberts by some nefarious means and Gorilla was like “He doesn’t deserve it!” and Jesse quickly responded “He paid for it! Are you telling me you don’t deserve what you pay for?!” That’s heel announcing.
July 10th, 2009 at 10:22 pm
shedding light on the 9/11 conspiracy. bobby heenan is untouched in heel announcing. roddy piper would be an excellent choice.
July 10th, 2009 at 10:24 pm
Root against joba for me, both for fantasy purposes and my sheer enjoyment at yankee’s fans inability to understand that six innings are more valuable than one.
July 10th, 2009 at 10:26 pm
But I don’t understand this statement? I live in the city and am a yanks fan and most fans were clamoring for him to start and are still wanting him to continue to start…
July 10th, 2009 at 10:26 pm
Agreed. His yearly Hall of Fame inductions are the highlight of the wrestling year at this point. His book is not at all well written, but interesting nonetheless. I think Piper might be too far gone to talk for two hours. I wonder if they’d just let him have some coke if he could revert to 1986.
July 10th, 2009 at 10:29 pm
Then the unsilent majority manages to overwelm everyone I ever hear on the radio or on gamecasts of yankees games. It is neverending “why isn’t joba in the pen” variations over and over again. TBL would prefer you trade him along with Hughes and Jackson for Halladay.
July 10th, 2009 at 10:30 pm
speaking of the yankee’s game I see Joe Saunders did what Joe Saunders does when they cruelly ask him to face major league offenses.
July 10th, 2009 at 10:30 pm
have you read jericho’s book? very good read. get ric flair. he is retired(supposedly) get him on there but first make it clear he isnt a good guy by having him run in and screw a baby face out of a title match or somethin
July 10th, 2009 at 10:33 pm
i have since backed off joba-hughes-jackson for halladay.
i’d do joba-jackson, for sure. all 3, couldn’t do.
July 10th, 2009 at 10:34 pm
Yeah, Jericho, first Foley, and Bret Hart’s are the gold standard of wrestling books thus far. I’m really curious about Jericho’s next one because I think it’s through WWE, and I don’t trust his ability/willingness to be honest in that environment. I despise Ric Flair as a human being but I think it’s possible he could be good in that role.
July 10th, 2009 at 10:36 pm
Anyone else watch Mad Men? That show rocks, my fav going these days. New eps in a month…
July 10th, 2009 at 10:36 pm
Anyone else watch Mad Men? That show rocks, my fav going these days. New eps in a month…
Closest thing we’ll get to Sopranos.
July 10th, 2009 at 10:37 pm
i’d do joba-jackson, for sure. all 3, couldn’t do.
I suspect there’d have to be another lower level prospect, but I think the Blue Jays do that. I don’t know that the Yankees would. You’re right that the Yankee’s have the payroll to absorb that move (and that as a franchise with there payroll that is the kind of thing they should do), but it means that once again they’re gonna be layered with near 30 or over starters with really long term contracts.
July 10th, 2009 at 10:37 pm
Say it again!
July 10th, 2009 at 10:39 pm
Closest thing we’ll get to Sopranos.
I don’t think it’s all that similar (know the guy worked on it), but a fan. The annoying kid from Angel has really come into his own as a jackass on that show.
July 10th, 2009 at 10:41 pm
Wow. I have a sister who watched a show called angel. All I remember is that she said it had something to do with Buffy…I think. I really, really hope you are not referencing the same show. If you are, then I bid you adieu good sir. I see there is an episode of Myley Cyrus on at 11, perhaps you’d be interested in that?
July 10th, 2009 at 10:43 pm
Buffy The Vampire Slayer was the greatest show that has ever graced this or any other reality. It is to you sir that I say a good day.
July 10th, 2009 at 10:45 pm
Convo.
Over.
July 10th, 2009 at 10:47 pm
“I watch Mad Men, I’m an intellectual, but I don’t like the best reviewed show of the mid to late nineties cause it has a stupid title.”
That was my impression of you. It was excellent.
July 10th, 2009 at 10:48 pm
i just looked it up and it isnt through wwe its through grand central. i think jericho is smart enough to know that older people arent gonna pay for a book where he cant give us at least 75% actual truth. im sure he isnt gonna totally shit all over the wwe (ecspecially current people working…lookin at you HHH) but he will drop some cool shit in there.
July 10th, 2009 at 10:50 pm
fuck and yes. i never watched angel, but i still love me some david boreanez (sp).
July 10th, 2009 at 10:51 pm
Well now you have really provoked me. Nicely done. Really? You go around telling people that BTVS is the best reviewed show of that time period? Riight. Hey I got no problem with name. Hell, the movie rocked. But cmon, you’re gonna say BTVS is more critically acclaimed than Sopranos.

i would love to read a book from someone who actively wrestled through a bunch of the territories with stories from the territories but most of those dudes are either dead or to dumb to write a halfassed decent book
July 10th, 2009 at 10:52 pm
This is very good news. Yeah I’d love his honest assessment of the sort of won the world title on Raw and him and benoit winning the titles from stone cold/HHH like a year later. I think those and when ECW inexplicably reformed and for two seconds were cool right before they joined “The Alliance” were the last times I ever marked out for anything in wrestling even a litte.
…sort of when Benoit won the title at Mania in the three way dance. That’s pretty ruined though.

Do you also love the site, suckingcock.com?
/ Artie’d
You’re gay for saying that
July 10th, 2009 at 10:54 pm
I don’t think the suckingcock.com reference got through that you think I’m gay.

he said late nineties soprano’s came out in 99 and really got its acclaim after that
July 10th, 2009 at 10:56 pm
Soprano’s came like two years later, and no, it was not as well reviewed as that, but always very critically lauded. Matt Roush still can’t write for more than a week without mentioning how good Buffy was (of course, he is a suspected homosexual). The movie was pretty terrible. The show, despite sarah michelle gellar, was very, very good. I really suggest you give it a chance sometimes, starting with season 2, but I know you won’t.
Harley Race has a pretty decent book that covers a lot of this, but yes, a great one has definitely not been done. I don’t know who I’d want to do it though.
July 10th, 2009 at 10:58 pm
99, really, so that’s like four years later actually, you don’t have to defend me on this though mrerjr as I doubt your a fan.
July 10th, 2009 at 10:59 pm
hmmmm……jake roberts…if he could get past his annoying coke habbit and ego i bet he could put out an amazing book. the remaining von eirch brother or gagne’s son
July 10th, 2009 at 11:00 pm
OH, Cena and Van Dam in Hammerstein Ballroom. That would be the last time I enjoyed a wrestling match in a completely fannish manner.
July 10th, 2009 at 11:02 pm
I would definitely read Kevin’s book, the World Class DVD WWE did was pretty good… everyone’s dead. Micheal Hayes could probably write a pretty amazing book with a good ghost writer.
July 10th, 2009 at 11:02 pm
i actually liked angel(i watch the reruns 5 am tnt or tbs) and never watched buffy though. and im just trying to promote reading comprehension
July 10th, 2009 at 11:03 pm
I can’t believe with his taste TBL didn’t watch Buffy. Maybe he still had a cool image to maintain at that point.
July 10th, 2009 at 11:05 pm
i would be worried that all the stories would be like “so i just did a huge line of blow and wreslted my ass of and then took some painkillers and fucking partied!” remember this was the 80’s and hayes i think liked to party….alot
July 10th, 2009 at 11:06 pm
I fell into watching Buffy the same way in college. TNT 5 to 6 pm, you go through whole seasons in two weeks. if you like Angel at all you’d really like Buffy. Do you never sleep?
July 10th, 2009 at 11:08 pm
This is both why I hated Ric Flair’s book and I generally hate Ric Flair. There is something extremely disturbing about a sixty year old man who still needs to brag about all the drugs he did and the girls he fucked.
July 10th, 2009 at 11:10 pm
Is there usually no one here now or did we actively drive everyone away?
July 10th, 2009 at 11:10 pm
sometimes. usually 2 am til 9 or 10 am. but if i feel like pulling an all nighter i do it.
July 10th, 2009 at 11:12 pm
it is friday and summer. it is usually dead around this time. and also i might stay awake til 4 am if i get a new book.

may his father burn in hell and he should have come out sooner.
July 10th, 2009 at 11:14 pm
One reason I like the shit show currently going on in my town this weekend: On my way home from work right now I was at a light and a (drunk) girl rolled down her window said I was hot and showed me her titties.
July 10th, 2009 at 11:18 pm
it is friday and summer. it is usually dead around this time. and also i might stay awake til 4 am if i get a new book.
Ah, cool things to do? I am anxiously awaiting the girlfriend to get off work so I can do cool things. Also no longer cool. You a big reader? I’m finishing my Masters in lit and teaching a bunch of EN100 freshmen who are most distinctly not now during real year time.
July 10th, 2009 at 11:20 pm
may his father burn in hell and he should have come out sooner.
wtf, that is unacceptable.
July 10th, 2009 at 11:21 pm
i know from my comments this may come as a surprise but i devour books…seriously. a great book i will read straight through. non-stop until i finish it. and then i will go look for another book to read.
July 10th, 2009 at 11:21 pm
Well, now we know sponge is hot.
July 10th, 2009 at 11:23 pm
i once read the godfather for 8 hours straight and then when i got to the end the last page was ripped out of the book. i have not and never will read that last page.
July 10th, 2009 at 11:23 pm
No that’s the best part, I’m not what you would call classically handsome, although recently drunk chicks seem to think so.
July 10th, 2009 at 11:27 pm
95% of the battle
What’s the movie where the guy won’t read the only dickens he’s never read until he’s sure he’s going to die. This might be a book. This will never be answered.
I am no longer able to read fiction like that if it’s not by somebody I already am a huge fan of, and at this point I’ve read all their currently published books. The last year I’ve pretty much read non fiction exclusively if it’s for pleasure.
July 10th, 2009 at 11:28 pm
Jonathan f’n Sanchez now has a perfect game through five innings.
July 10th, 2009 at 11:31 pm
There goes that perfect game…
July 10th, 2009 at 11:33 pm
I’m Joe Buck? I don’t feel like I was born into a great situation…
July 10th, 2009 at 11:36 pm
john grisham is probably my fave i have read every one of his books(except for the bleacher and playing for pizza) and look forward to reading the current harback. lawrence block’s Hitman,Hit list, and hit parade are awesome.stephen colbert’s book was awesome. the dtectice cross novels are the shit amd johnathan kellers books usually bring the good stuff. i could go on and on.
July 10th, 2009 at 11:39 pm
If you liked colbert’s really recommend John Hodgman’s two books, the funniest stuff I’ve ever read in my life. There both almanacs of facts that he makes up, and they are amazing. John Stewart’s “America: the book” was also pretty good, Colbert spends a whole page calling Warren G. Hardy a taint.
July 10th, 2009 at 11:39 pm
I liked older grisham but haven’t read anything by him in years. The Client and esp. the Rainmaker were excellent, excellent books.
July 10th, 2009 at 11:40 pm
brad meltzer, lee child, brad thor and bio books are good only if they dont sugar coat everything about the author. tedd williams bio was amazing.
July 10th, 2009 at 11:42 pm
I thought this was pretty funny
July 10th, 2009 at 11:43 pm
Grisham was great with his older books. Stayed up too late during finals week reading The Firm and “A Time to Kill”
July 10th, 2009 at 11:43 pm
I know your down on stewart for his liberal slant but he’s had at least one vicious obama segment every couple days the last month.
July 10th, 2009 at 11:44 pm
the thing about grishams books is tht the characters usually have the same story arc(not sure if that is the right word help me out) . the character is a young lawyer with the world by the balls something horrible happens there is court case or a sinsiter plot then the character gets his shit together screws the bad guy horribly well and then leaves town to get away from it all. but he writes them so damn well the formula doesnt get old
July 10th, 2009 at 11:45 pm
A time to kill also good. Also in movie form possibly Matthew gonna spell it wrong’s only good performance besides Dazed and Confused.
July 10th, 2009 at 11:45 pm
Just to pipe in real quick before hitting the sack…Buffy was fucking amazing TV, and if you didn’t like it, you obviously lack any sense of good television.
July 10th, 2009 at 11:48 pm
see i know he is comedian but this shows you how hard he is trying to stay relevant.
July 10th, 2009 at 11:49 pm
Last five good fiction books I’ve read: Margaret Atwood’s “Oryx and Crake”, Neal Stephenson’s “Snow Crash”, Faulkner’s “The Hamlet”, Neil Gaiman’s “American Gods”, and John Updike’s “Rabbit, Run”.
July 10th, 2009 at 11:52 pm
i know this is gonna sound sexist but i dont read fiction books from women. they usually have women doing completely unrealistic shit that is so far from reality that it is ahrd to take the book seriously. butch karp novels are pretty good also.
July 10th, 2009 at 11:53 pm
Someone named after vicodin that is far away disagrees.
I just don’t understand the why he wouldn’t be relevant with a dem in instead of a Republican. Plus, Obama has in nearly every case done something that should be mocked.
July 10th, 2009 at 11:55 pm
Generally also not a fan of women writers, but that’s more a product of extremely feminist literature professors I suspect. The Atwood I just recommended has a completely believable male protagonist.
July 10th, 2009 at 11:56 pm
because he totally lost his credibility with me during the election when he licking democrat nutsuck. he got what he wanted so now if he changes hos stance then he is just looking like a fool
July 10th, 2009 at 11:57 pm
Plus they really try to shoehorn women and minorities in the canon when the reason they aren’t in the canon in the first place has far less to do with the evil patriarchy of every century and society up til 1993 and far more to do with the fact very few women/minorities had the opportunity to be educated until recently.
July 10th, 2009 at 11:58 pm
sanchez, six innings, still perfect, only 69 pitches, facing the padres.
July 10th, 2009 at 11:59 pm
i dont care about male or female protagonists just dont have the women taking on an army of skilled killers with a one high heel and a hair tie by themselves.
July 11th, 2009 at 12:00 am
Agree he wanted Obama (something I’m not faulting him for) but he runs a comedy show, he should mock whoever is in power if he can find an avenue to mock them. Wouldn’t it be worse if he just blew him like Olbermann? And wouldn’t that be a worse show?
July 11th, 2009 at 12:02 am
So you read Kill Bill the book a lot?
July 11th, 2009 at 12:04 am
Also, I don’t really think anyone loses there credibility unless there saying something they don’t believe. I never get the impression with stewart that he’s not just offering his opinion. Olbermann and Hannity on the other hand bend over backwards to invent a reason to support whatever there predetermined side is saying. If you think Stewart did this I didn’t notice it, though it’s possible.
July 11th, 2009 at 12:05 am
Also, I am now completely incapable of using the there/their/they’re’s correctly.
July 11th, 2009 at 12:06 am
ifhe acted impartial then i wouldnt care what he said but he was over the top with his agenda of how a dem will save us from everything. it makes him look spineless
July 11th, 2009 at 12:08 am
actually no i didnt…but i enjoyed the violent ass movies.
July 11th, 2009 at 12:08 am
I want my news shows to act impartially. I don’t expect it from John Stewart. I suspect he really did think that, if not a dem could save us from everything, that McCain could not. Personally, I suspect we’re screwed either way.
July 11th, 2009 at 12:09 am
So in a film badass women killers are acceptable?
July 11th, 2009 at 12:16 am
Sanchez 8.1 innings, still perfect, just had an error, first baserunner.
July 11th, 2009 at 12:17 am
i dont really know how to answer that other then when i watch a movie like that it is only like 2hrs and that i dont become invested in the movie like i do a book. does that make sense?
July 11th, 2009 at 12:18 am
That does indeed make sense. I’m not disagreeing with your general complaint.
July 11th, 2009 at 12:21 am
…so, not so perfect anymore, sigh.
July 11th, 2009 at 12:33 am
well i guess male writers do the same thing though. in the butch karp novels his wife does some pretty crazy shit. i dont know really maybe her charcter is just really built well by the author or something.
July 11th, 2009 at 12:42 am
no hitter, only base runner reached on an error in the eigth. Juan Uribe can officially kill himself.
July 11th, 2009 at 7:11 pm
Rock-Hogan 1 and 2. It covered both sides of my fandom, stupid kid/Hogan fan= stupid young adult/Rock fan.
