Heading into the All-Star break, the Dodgers have the best record in the NL, the Red Sox have the best record in the AL, the Yankees lead the AL Wildcard and the Nationals have fired their manager. Crazy! One story that sticks out for me — even with Barry Zito being Barry Zito, the Giants are leading the NL Wildcard by two games and have the second-best record in the NL.

Red Sox 6, Royals 0: Josh Beckett gifted his bullpen with an extra day off in the form of complete game dominance (9 IP, 3 H, 7 K) going into the break.

Dodgers 7, Brewers 4: The Dodgers cruise into the break having won seven of their last 10. They’re 24 games over .500. I will now pick my nose in honor of Joe Torre.

Tigers 10, Indians 1: Verlander won his 10th and Clete Thomas, who might very well be the owner of the best profile pic in baseball, drove in five runs.

Cubs 7, Cards 3: Zambrano went yard in the first game of a day-night doubleheader.

Cards 4, Cubs 2: Ryan Ludwick hit two homers, Wainwright went eight strong and Ryan Franklin struck out the side to save it. His facial hair and ERA continue to be tremendous.

Mets 9, Reds 7: Frenchy is batting .444 since becoming a Met!

O’s 4, Blue Jays 2: Marc Rzepczynski, an up-and-coming student at the Doug Mientkiewicz school of spelling, pitched decently in his second start of the year, but the Toronto bats couldn’t do much against Brad Bergesen and the O’s bullpen.

Twins 13, White Sox 7: The Sox, and Mark Buehrle in particular, received a beatdown at the hands of Denard Span, Brendan Harris and Carlos Gómez, who combined for all 11 Minnesota RBIs.

Angels 5, Yanks 4: The Yankee heading to Anaheim for three before the All-Star break reeked of an Angels sweep, and that’s exactly what happened.

Phils 5, Pirates 2: Pedro Feliz hit a grand slam in the first and the Phils never looked back. J.A. Happ improved to 6-0 with an ERA of 2.90.

Rockies 8, Braves 7: Brad Hawpe hit a walk-off RBI double to win it for the Rockies, a fitting way for him to head into the All-Star game. Ryan Church is batting .111 since becoming a Brave.

Padres 10, Giants 4: Barry Zito gave up 10 hits, 9 earned runs and two homers in 4 1/3 innings of ‘work’. A rather fitting way for him to go home for the All-Star break.

Marlins 8, D-Backs 1: Josh Johnson has been insanely consistent this year — he’s given up three runs or less in 18 of his 19 starts.

Astros 5, Nats 0: The Nationals have 26 wins.

Nothing tonight will come close to topping the jheri curl mullet sported by Juan Gonzalez in 1993:
