Newspaper Publishes Home Addresses of Cards’ Players (Including Pujols), Has Credentials Yanked
Media Gossip/Musings July 17th. 2009, 3:15pm
Last week, the Riverfront Times in St. Louis put out a special All-Star week section in which the paper inexplicably ran the home addresses of former and current St. Louis Cardinals players. Literate denizens of St. Louis, of course, could have gone here and, for no fee, found the information themselves. Nevertheless, Albert Pujols wasn’t happy.
Last Thursday afternoon I got a call from Brian Bartow, the St. Louis Cardinals’ director of media relations. Bartow said the team had seen and loved the Riverfront Times Guide to All-Star Week, a special supplement this paper had published the previous day — all except the part where we revealed the home addresses of some current and former Redbirds luminaries.
The players, Bartow said, were particularly peeved, especially Pujols. So upset were they, Bartow told me, that the ballclub felt it had no option but to instruct Major League Baseball to revoke the credentials they’d granted Riverfront Times to cover the All-Star Game, and to rescind our credentials to cover the team over the course of the regular season.
Seems a bit harsh, no? We’ll agree it was unnecessary for the paper to print the information, but to punish them for the remainder of the season? Why not just meet the writer for dinner, and then when he walks out the door, have Pujols et al waiting to put a trash bag over his head and beat the guy up?

Who at this paper thought this would actually be acceptable?

A hipster doesn’t need to follow the man’s rules. These addresse’s were published ironically, kind of like Albert’s plan to open a sports bar where liquor wasn’t going to be served.

harsh? no. as private as pujols is the last thing he(or anyone else ) would want is fat slobs in cardinals gear taking pictures of his house and shit. and ecspecially nowadays im sure pro athletes do not want their adresses listed so any criminal can just pick up the paper and find out who they are gonna hit next.

Hey mrejr, the blackistone post was excellent, very well written. You can really see you improving in just the four pieces. The only one I didn’t really like was the cartoon one, didn’t feel a. exactly what you were listing was well established and b. that you had much reasoning beyond “these are shows I like” for the list. You did a good job trying to be funny without overwelming your thoughts, especially in the blackistone one, and I don’t think you overlooked any point that needed to be made about why his critique was not only ill informed but ridiculous. Also, Leonard Little is a worthless piect of shit that should have been at least honorably mentioned. Who drives drunk again after killing somebody?

When I was an undergrad my awful college town’s Lion’s Choice closed to make way for White Castle. And this during the great Arby’s rebuilding of ‘04! It was a dark time indeed.

On the good list, you know Albert’s got a kid with Down’s syndrome right? Also he’s very hands on with that foundation, plays in an annual game with kids with Down’s Syndrome in the Dominican and is by all accounts extremely generous with his money (easy) and time (not so much) regarding it.

LOL idiots!

that is why he it was easy to put him on the list even though i’m a cubs fan. he seems like just a good dude . who happens to be one of the best , if not the best, baseball players in the world.

I say yank his personal credentials forever, and the paper’s for a year. How anyone could think that posting their hmoe addresses would be a good thing is a mystery. Sure, you could probably find them with a simple white pages search, but giving that information out is asinine, and I’m a bit surprised it got by the editors desk intact. This isn’t a map to celebrities homes in hollywood.

Perhaps the paper was just doing a clever lead in to the new Patton Oswalt

Being a DC native, and long-time fan, Patton must be inconsolable with the demise of the Mike O’Meara Show on WJFK-FM(the all-talk station, along with , will flip to “Sportsradio 106.7 The Fan” as of Monday, July 20. WBCN in Boston is making the same move next month. Another brilliant move by CBS Radio).
