By now you’ve surely heard – earlier today, a website (it is completely NSFW) posted some grainy video of a blonde who everyone thought might have been ESPN’s Erin Andrews, naked in a hotel room. (She’s doing mundane things like curling her hair. The video is still out there – cached – but we’re not going to link to it for a variety of legal reasons.) Well, the video is of Andrews, her legal team just confirmed. It appears to us as if this was completely premeditated – as if people knew where Andrews was staying and holes were drilled in the wall. This is equal parts mind-blowing and sickening. Moments ago, Andrews’ legal team, through ESPN, sent a press release wide.

LOS ANGELES, Calif., July 17 /PRNewswire/ — With respect to recent Internet postings of Erin Andrews, she has authorized her attorney, Marshall B. Grossman of Bingham McCutchen LLP, to issue the following statement:

“While alone in the privacy of her hotel room, Erin Andrews was surreptitiously videotaped without her knowledge or consent. She was the victim of a crime and is taking action to protect herself and help ensure that others are not similary violated in the future. Although the perpetrator or perpetrators of this criminal act have not yet been identified, when they are identified she intends to bring both civil and criminal charges against them and against anyone who has published the material. We request respect of Erin’s privacy at this time, while she and her representatives are working with the authorities.”

We don’t even know where to begin, so we won’t. But the Erin Andrews fanaticism just veered from fawning and sad to downright disturbing.
