Mike Vick Spent His First Night Out of Federal Custody Like Any Guy Would Have: At a Strip Club in Virginia Beach [Update]
Mike Vick, NFL, Strippers July 22nd. 2009, 10:50pm
Former NFL QB Mike Vick had been in prison for 19 months before being released into federal custody in May. Monday, he was released from federal custody. What was the first thing Vick did? The former Falcons QB went to Atlantis strip club in Virginia Beach, Virginia, according to a source who spotted him at the club and a DJ at the jiggle joint who did not want to be quoted by name. Vick was partying with NBA free agent Allen Iverson, the source and DJ both said. [Update: Vick denied visiting a strip club, saying he was "out of town." The AP reported that earlier in the week, he was in Richmond. It's a two hour drive from Va. Beach to Richmond.]
After getting a tip from a reader Wednesday, and seeing this post at YBF saying the same thing, we called the club half a dozen times until we were able to get someone on the phone tonight around 10:15 pm. “Monday’s are crazy here, it’s amateur night, and it’s packed,” said the DJ, who did not to be quoted. He checked with a few of the dancers about whether or not Vick and Iverson were present Monday and said, “yup, both of them were here. It’s the first place I’d want to go as a free man, too.”
ESPN reported this week that Vick will soon be meeting with NFL commish Roger Goodell about a possible reinstatement. It doesn’t seem as if a strip club visit would be a barrier to his return to the NFL – surely even the stern Goodell could understand Vick’s first night excursion, right?
We’ve long thought that Vick has done his time and he should immediately be reinstated by Goodell. We’ve been Vick fans since we covered his first game at Virginia Tech, when he memorably flipped into the end zone during a 47-0 shellacking of James Madison. We thought he was the best player in the country as a freshman when Ron Dayne won the Heisman, we thought Vick did some great things in Atlanta despite a lack of quality WRs, and we thought – yeah, we’ll say it – he got shafted with a 23-month sentence in jail for his role in a dogfighting conspiracy.
They key word to remember in your meeting with Goodell, Mike: contrition.

Standing ovation.
July 22nd, 2009 at 10:58 pm
Nope. Just the whole prison sentence, dog fighting and can’t-find-the-film-room-been-out-of-football-for-2-years-and-wasn’t-that-talented-NFL-wise-to-begin-with.
Cool exclusive, though.
July 22nd, 2009 at 10:59 pm
if jay cutler would have went out and appeared drunk no blogs would have covered…oh wait.
July 22nd, 2009 at 10:59 pm
You know what though, screw Goodell, the dude is allowed to enjoy a jiggle joint after spending time in the clink.
July 22nd, 2009 at 11:00 pm
I hope none of the stripper’s met Ron Mexico or there gonna be investing in a life time of topical creams.
July 22nd, 2009 at 11:00 pm
I think Jay Cutler and Hal Steinbrenner should wrestle for the title of Spalding Smails.
July 22nd, 2009 at 11:01 pm
agree 100% with Hernia, who is featuring a new avatar?
July 22nd, 2009 at 11:01 pm
If you can’t go to a strip club with Allan Iverson after 19 months in prison in America than this country has lost it’s way.
July 22nd, 2009 at 11:04 pm
no kidding, im surprised his first stop wasn’t to a tit bar
July 22nd, 2009 at 11:04 pm
We thought he was the best player in the country as a freshman when Ron Dayne won the Heisman
Reason number 156789 the Heisman is a joke. It shouldn’t have even been close that year, Vick was untouchable that year.
July 22nd, 2009 at 11:04 pm
that has to be a clipper…probably kaman?
July 22nd, 2009 at 11:04 pm
He’s bankrupt though, right? I wonder how much juice The Answer charges for loans?
July 22nd, 2009 at 11:07 pm
good for vick
sox have hit about 10 line drives right at the rangers tonight…brutal offensive stretch
July 22nd, 2009 at 11:09 pm
This is going to sound over the top homerish, but Joe Hamilton deesrved the Heisman that year. Vick going to a strip club is understandable, but you’d think that his agent or handlers or somebody would’ve put the bug in his ear that low profile would be the way to go until he’s reinstated. Partying with Iverson at a peeler joint doesn’t fit into that category.

I couldn’t agree more with this. But I think Vick has pretty well established that he doesn’t give a fuck
July 22nd, 2009 at 11:21 pm
low profile? it would be bigger news if he DIDNT go to a titty bar. as someone who used tom work in a prison i have no issues about him going to get titties rubbed in his face. i dont care if it was with a.i. or someone who isnt famous. you get cooped up with a bunch of dudes for 2 years and see if you wouldnt accept an all expenses paid trip to a strip club
July 22nd, 2009 at 11:22 pm
Joe Hamilton was good; Vick was indeed untouchable. Has there been a more dominant college football player in the last decade? Reggie Bush was pretty damn impressive – vince young was, too.
IMO, Vick trumped them both.
July 22nd, 2009 at 11:24 pm
kurt “Cannon Arm” kittner?
July 22nd, 2009 at 11:25 pm
anyone read the comments on the ESPN big ben story (finally)?
http://myespn.go.com/s/conversations/show/story/4349253
over 1000, and i just went through a few pages – anger. lots of anger.
July 22nd, 2009 at 11:27 pm
Like I said mrejr, I get going to the titty bar. I probably wouldn’t do it on my first day of freedom if I was trying to get back in the NFL though, especially with the way Goodell’s been suspending people. He’s gotta think big picture, and this type of thing shows he isn’t.
July 22nd, 2009 at 11:27 pm
I agree with your lists. Cedric Benson was pretty good too. Tim Tebow, and he’s still got a year left.
But I do have an honest question… take away all his failure in the NFL. Does Matt Leinart at least get mentioned in that discussion?
My list:
Vick > Bush > Young
July 22nd, 2009 at 11:28 pm
the big ben story has mcnair like intentions written all over it
something tells me they probably fooled around alot, since i think he was a regular there..he said game over..she freaked
i heard somewhere she claimed her co workers laughed at her when she said she was raped
i find it hard to believe people suck that hard
July 22nd, 2009 at 11:30 pm
Overzelous anger in comments? never happens
July 22nd, 2009 at 11:30 pm
Larry Fitzgerald was incredibly unstoppable. looked like a grown man playing a bunch peewee football players out there.
July 22nd, 2009 at 11:31 pm
leinart wasn’t dominant – just had weapons around him.
tebow’s a good one. vick was elusive and fast – tebow’s powerful. in terms of sheer unstoppableness … i lean vick.
July 22nd, 2009 at 11:32 pm
and by mcnair intentions i mean hurt the guy who ended a relationship..not shot someone
July 22nd, 2009 at 11:33 pm
calvin johnson was pretty ridiculous
July 22nd, 2009 at 11:35 pm
I had to watch that no talent ass clown get legitimate NFL starts in 03 when Vick got hurt. He sucked.
July 22nd, 2009 at 11:36 pm
A couple of things.
/If Vick did this he should be suspended for stupidity.
/This is a scoop that could be a game changer for you TBL. Nice
July 22nd, 2009 at 11:36 pm
It’s a stretch because he left in 1999 and we’re talking last ten years, but Ricky Williams could fall into the discussion too. He was unreal at Texas.
July 22nd, 2009 at 11:41 pm
Like I’m gonna pass up a chance to link this.
July 22nd, 2009 at 11:42 pm
Nebraska fans can attest to this. He was a favorite of mine. I still like him, but why couldn’t he just smoke after he retired?
July 22nd, 2009 at 11:44 pm
Hakeem Nicks was pretty good.
July 22nd, 2009 at 11:47 pm
Absolute stud. One of my favorite players of all time. He went to a rival high school, but after I left. I always wanted him to go to UGA. If he had a good QB, he would have set all-time records.
July 22nd, 2009 at 11:48 pm
BAM!
And on that, I’m going to sleep. Good scoop, TBL. Let’s see how long it takes ESPN to pick up this one.
Bet Florio is all over it by morning.
July 22nd, 2009 at 11:48 pm
Hi-yo!!!!
+88
July 22nd, 2009 at 11:50 pm
You from Fayetteville, GotG? True recruiting story: Johsnon was offered by UGA, but they told him he’d have to sit behind Fred Gibson and Reggie Brown. Feel free to go all Simmons and light yourself on fire now.
July 22nd, 2009 at 11:51 pm
The game CJ had at Clemson as a frehsman was ridiculous.
July 22nd, 2009 at 11:51 pm
YES!!!
July 22nd, 2009 at 11:54 pm
Wow, that makes me so sad. Yeah, I went to Starr’s Mill. Where are you from?
July 22nd, 2009 at 11:56 pm
I was in Reuben Houston’s class. He was the dude who got caught in the huge pot scheme. Like 100 pounds or more. He was gunning for Nate Newton’s record.
/Way to go Big Reub!!
July 22nd, 2009 at 11:57 pm
Snellville. Went to Brookwood. My old roommate went to Sandy Creek.
July 23rd, 2009 at 12:00 am
I remember the Houston thing. What a moron. Some girls that lived in our apartment complex were cheerleaders when they went to Starr’s Mill, and knew him when they were in hs.

Small world.
July 23rd, 2009 at 12:30 am
wow kind of scary how espn has dealt with the roethlisberger allegations
July 23rd, 2009 at 12:36 am
Katherine Heigl and Gerard Butler star in “What Sandra Bullock and Matthew McConaughey Said No To”
July 23rd, 2009 at 1:10 am
What is scary about espn not covering the trial? They could genuinely be trying to follow a code of ethics instead of reporting on a lawsuit that could damage someones reputation without any sort of proof. They should be applauded for waiting until they had their facts instead of just trying to timestamp a damn article
complimenting espn?
/ thats a bannin!
// insert illiterate espn bashing from paolo here

Charles Rogers was as good if not better than both Calvin Johnson and Fitz in college.

Put yourself in Vick’s shoes and just appreciate that he is re-living this classic film moment minus going back to school:

classic film moment in back to school
July 23rd, 2009 at 7:07 am
sigh…he was…he was.
July 23rd, 2009 at 7:22 am
what trial? just report that a lawsuit was filed accusing him of sexual assault. this is a fact. the headline of their article is “no criminal look at roethlisberger allegations”. why is that even relevant to the civil suit? and yet this is the headline they go with. no idea if he did it but you can obviously see why the woman doesnt want to deal with a criminal suit. she realizes there is basically a 0 % chance that roethlisberger would be found guilty in a criminal case. she saw what happened in the kobe case and knows its much easier to just collect a settlement in a civil suit like the girl in the kobe case.
July 23rd, 2009 at 7:35 am
You are so brave to say that.
July 23rd, 2009 at 7:51 am
Sparty: we get into it sometimes… but even this makes me excited when I watch it. I’m looking for one more stupid catch he made vs us.
July 23rd, 2009 at 8:00 am
i know which one you are looking for, i can never find it. i always end up coming across the following Battle catch. that one hurt…oh did it hurt. pat fucking dillingham?
July 23rd, 2009 at 8:02 am

Lake Dawson > Charles Rogers
July 23rd, 2009 at 8:05 am
God this might have been like 9 years ago. But if I’m right, back of the endzone, highest point, foot as inbounds as you can be without being called out. That was a great fucking game. But yeah, ND’s like 5th string qb that season. How much I do not miss the Davies years, thats for damn certain.
July 23rd, 2009 at 8:06 am
TSH-you are a funny guy.

no, that was Willingham’s first year. Stovall was a frosh.
July 23rd, 2009 at 8:12 am
Sparty, remember Lake? He was always good for a random bomb. Great football name.
July 23rd, 2009 at 8:15 am
.
Until the commenters turned it into a race thing with Kobe. So boooorrrrrring. They do the same stuff every time there’s a T.O. story.
That’s one of many reasons I go to this site.
July 23rd, 2009 at 8:15 am
Right, my bad. Still in high school at the time. That was the year lovecchio quit right. Fucking bergen catholic kids.
July 23rd, 2009 at 8:17 am
of course i remember. lou was still there. that is when we couldn’t beat ya.
July 23rd, 2009 at 8:17 am
Randy Moss was the most dominating college player ever. Against DII comp year 1 and DI comp year 2.
Scored every game against every double/triple press safety over the top kitchen sink scheme.
July 23rd, 2009 at 8:18 am
i live less than 2 miles from that school. good place to go catch quality high school ball. even better when Don Bosco visits and tears them up.
July 23rd, 2009 at 8:20 am
Wow, Matt LoVecchio, forgot about that disgrace.
July 23rd, 2009 at 8:22 am
Barry Sanders calls you a liar.
July 23rd, 2009 at 8:24 am
On the Vick front, ain’t nothing illegal about going to see strippers and I have no problem with that. But he really needs a P.R. guy or agent to tell him not to be a fucking idiot.
July 23rd, 2009 at 8:27 am
it’s a little late for that.
July 23rd, 2009 at 8:27 am
I could look Barry in the face, not laugh, and argue my case. Lose none the less, but I don’t wouldn’t be embarrassed.
July 23rd, 2009 at 8:29 am
July 23rd, 2009 at 8:31 am
Yeah, but he lost some of the “maybe he changed–let’s give him a second chance to play on our team” vote last night.
Even though strippers have nothing to do with dog fighting–I absolutely agree with that. And I’m not saying that’s my opinion. I know what I hear from the talk radio idiots out there.
July 23rd, 2009 at 8:33 am
You’d think after the Ron Mexico thing, flipping off the home fans and the trick bottom water bottle incident he would have hired a P.R. person to help him out, but here we are.
July 23rd, 2009 at 8:56 am
It’s Bergen, they’re all disgraces.

can’t fault a guy for going to a strip club after being let out of prison, but seriously, use some discretion with it.
July 23rd, 2009 at 10:16 am
what kind of country is this where a guy would be better off killing another, driving drunk and killing someone or sexually assaulting a woman rather than killing a dog?
July 23rd, 2009 at 11:24 am
Strip clubs in VB are bikini dancing on stage. It does not make it less stupid for Vick to go, but it is different form the image that I am sure most people have in their heads.
July 23rd, 2009 at 1:16 pm
Jersey, I don’t know about you, but most ND fans don’t miss ALL the years in which ND is not in the title hunt, as was the case EVERY year through 1993 with a brief run in 2002 that failed miserably after a key win at FSU.
Nothing as far as championship material or a strong run for it has come out of Notre Dame since the Holtz years, so add Willingham and now Weis to Davie.
With the players intact, it is no wonder if the expectation on campus has drifted to perhaps “rebuilding year,” but traditionally at Notre Dame any season with even one loss is not a good season though sometimes a single loss came at the price of the national title to make still a good but not great season.

+1 Wilhelm, see my post 49

Answer: A country with misplaced priorities as we have had consistently more than ever since about 1991.
