Drew Brees’ Mother … Yeah, This One’s Strange
1-liner, Courts, Legal, NFL July 29th. 2009, 10:45amDrew Brees’ Mom: In a story that could only be described as bizarre, the mother of Saints QB Drew Breese fired off a letter to a bunch of Houston restaurant owners, essentially telling them that their name had ‘expired’ (a 10-year law in Texas), and if they wanted to get it back, they’d have to cough up 20k or 25k. “It looks like a weak attempt to do something like cyber squatting, but the law in Texas is such that — with trade names and trademarks — first use usually prevails,” [a lawyer for the restaurants said.] “Why they would send a letter like that … doesn’t make any sense unless they were trying to take advantage of a restaurateur who does not know the law.” Make sure you read to the end to hear why Brees and her son aren’t close. Carassco has been scratched from his start, meaning phillies might be about to make the Halladay or Lee trades.

That about sums it up.
And she keeps referring to the plaintiff as “my client”. Who the hell is her client? If she applied for the names, then she’s talking like….well, Rickey Henderson.

Oops I guess Taylor is. Marson and Donald aren’t though.

Jeff Clement got pulled from a game yesterday too. Which means Washburn is likely on the move today.
Also means it should be a nice package deal since Clement is a pretty good prospect. I’m saying they both end up in Detroit.

Everything I’ve read says he’s further away than Drabek/people have less faith in him than Drabek, so it would be a minor win for the phillies if they’re moving him and not the other guy. Prospectus says that “he’s worse than the sum of his parts” whatever that means, and Law was kind of down on him in a chat recently.

Huh, Law’s top prospects by system list (last updated in January) has carrasco 2nd in the phillies system and no mention of Drabek at all. He did either a top five or top ten for each team, I guess based on if he thought the system was deep enough to warrant one. What’s changed phillies fans? I also just read yesterday that the Jays “have no use” for Carrasco. neither guy is in Law’s top 100 prospects, recently updated, either.
