Vince Young’s Cocky. You’re Not Surprised, Are You?
NFL August 6th. 2009, 10:01am
A slightly unstable backup quarterback full of braggadocio chipped in on Esquire’s “What I’ve Learned” issue and made some unintentionally funny proclamations. Super Bowl. Hall of Fame. This is really nothing new – he’s always been cocksure (maybe overconfidence cost him!) since his rise from humble beginnings. Are people really surprised?
I don’t know when I’ll start again. But I will be the next black quarterback to win a Super Bowl. And I will be in the Hall of Fame.
Absolutely nothing wrong with this statement. Would you want your players to not have confidence? Ok, maybe he needs to tone down the confidence, and perhaps keep it in-house instead of chirping to a magazine, but knowing Young, shouldn’t his agent have not let this interview happen?
Is he delusional? Not really. Nobody thought he could beat USC and he did it himself. In his second year in the league he helped lead the Titans to the playoffs (yes, he stunk up the joint; like that’s never happened). We said it in the offseason and still feel this way: Vince Young will get his starting job back this season.

Somewhere in a corner, August West weeps quietly.

So, that’s just the stock photo for any VY post, right?
Jason Campbell has a better chance of being the next black QB to win a SB than Vince. By which of course I mean that Vince Young will never win a Super Bowl.
Book it.
August 6th, 2009 at 10:08 am
I’d rather my quarterback say he’s happy being a back-up and not having the pressure of playing. Damn that Vince Young for being self confident, how dare he.
August 6th, 2009 at 10:08 am
so you want them lying?
August 6th, 2009 at 10:10 am
Notice that he didn’t say he’d lead the Titans to a Super Bowl win. He said HE would win a Super Bowl — for what team though is the question unanswered.
August 6th, 2009 at 10:11 am
I suppose he could get a ring carrying a clipboard.
August 6th, 2009 at 10:12 am
We’ll always have this. Still gives me chills.
August 6th, 2009 at 10:12 am
Vince Young is a more glorified Tavaris Jackson…granted I could still be proven wrong but after watching him throw the ball like Lamar from Revenge of the Nerds against USC I was pretty sure he wouldn’t be great in the NFL
And if he does make it into the Hall of Fame somehow I want his bust to be modeled after that photo
August 6th, 2009 at 10:12 am
I want them to be self confident bordering on cocky, so what if they say it? We criticize athletes for being bland and then we criticize them for speaking their minds. Who cares? He’s got confidence and was honest about it. Good for him.

i love the comments from vysausage. i will never turn on vy since he finally got tx a natl championship. i do wish he would give fewer interviews and put a shirt on in the club.
August 6th, 2009 at 10:16 am
Hes going to get another chance. Kerry Collins sucks ass. Maybe Vince can step it up and make some shit happen. Its not like he has good recievers or anything like that. He should also try not trying to kill himself after eating chicken wings with his boys.
August 6th, 2009 at 10:19 am
yea…he should totally fire up the delorean’s flux capacitator and go back in time and fix that photo.
August 6th, 2009 at 10:20 am
Clown- College football died on that day…and was resurrected after Boise State beat Oklahoma.
August 6th, 2009 at 10:21 am
Ever notice how overrated quarterbacks never have good receivers? I remember when all of the skill players in Atlanta weren’t good enough for Vick but somehow learned how to play football once Matt Ryan showed up
August 6th, 2009 at 10:24 am
Am I possibly the only person that doesn’t care for Keith Jackson’s commentary?
Give me Musberger (minus the Holy Buckeye incident), Verne or Nessler anyday.
August 6th, 2009 at 10:25 am
fail.
/mora jr’s fault
//and the fact that WR’s don’t get dump off passes when vick can just run instead therefore inabling them to pad their stats to look respectable
August 6th, 2009 at 10:26 am
yes. you are, LITERALLY, the only person in the entire universe who thinks this.
August 6th, 2009 at 10:26 am
But is he selling shoes?
August 6th, 2009 at 10:26 am
I may be in a grumpy mood today, but it bothers me when comments look like they are a text instead of a comment.

Yes. You also hate the Hawk, love the Cubs and you are a shitty Fantasy Baseball GM. You have the worst judgment evar!
August 6th, 2009 at 10:29 am
Yeah, those Titans receivers were great with Kerry Collins! Their top true receiver had 34 catches last season.
August 6th, 2009 at 10:30 am
Judges?
And, as far as Jackson goes, it was little things that irritated me. Like insisting on saying, “The University of Southern Cal-i-forneyah” instead of USC.
August 6th, 2009 at 10:31 am
It also helps that passes are hitting them in the hands these days as opposed to the tops of their feet
(Although I should add that I fully support the Packers signing him…those fans once killed head coach Dan Devine’s dog after a bad season so they’re in no position to judge)
August 6th, 2009 at 10:33 am
so then you hate eli manning and tony romo too? cool…we’re getting on the same page then.
god forbid college football have a little pomp and pagentry.
sinner.
August 6th, 2009 at 10:33 am
Agreed here …it’s not going to happen unless he gets a whole lot of work done UPSTAIRS. That means either next year or the following or some end of career late bloomin’ like John Elway should he make it that far. Do they have an over/under on how many more seasons he will play?
August 6th, 2009 at 10:35 am
Wha R U tlkn bout?
August 6th, 2009 at 10:38 am
Agreed with Spencer for once here on Keith Jackson …I had no idea he had such haters …how much you want to be they are all under 30?
Great points by Clown and then Tampa but only on that Boise State-Oklahoma game.
August 6th, 2009 at 10:38 am
I’m still amazed that Eli got that deal yesterday…unless he’s using some of that money to buy Plaxico’s freedom it seems excessive for a guy who pretty much played one month of great football in his pro career
August 6th, 2009 at 10:40 am
that’s no excuse…freedom only costs a buck o’ five.
/still a hefty fuckin’ fee

Brent Musberger calling the Rose Bowl the last couple seasons made me sad…watched Badgers-Bruins again the other day on the Big Ten Network and Jackson was just great during that broadcast

Somewhere in a corner, August West weeps quietly.
Miss you too, Mikey. VY has a long way to go, but those who follow the Titans can definitely tell that he’s growing up. Who knows what the next turn in his story is, but it’d be a great one if he could resurrect his career and fulfill the potential he showed his rookie year.
August 6th, 2009 at 10:45 am
Alge Crumpler was a bum with Vick as a QB.
August 6th, 2009 at 10:47 am
I do appreciate this moment in Keith Jackson history though.
Spencer, you’ve probably rubbed a few out to it.
August 6th, 2009 at 10:47 am
sorry pki. i am still a novice and not computer savvy.
August 6th, 2009 at 10:50 am
SC…i wouldn’t go that far.
August 6th, 2009 at 10:51 am
Fantastic.
To answer the earlier question: yes, VY is delusional. He will be lucky to start a whole season in his career. He throws like a bitch and likely can’t outrun half the DEs in the NFL.
August 6th, 2009 at 10:53 am
vicks last year- 20 TD 13 INT
ryan- 16 TD 11 INT
August 6th, 2009 at 10:55 am
likely can’t outrun half the DEs in the NFL.
wow. Just… wow. You’re kidding right?
August 6th, 2009 at 10:57 am
I do appreciate this moment in Keith Jackson history though.
maggs is going to kill you in your sleep
August 6th, 2009 at 10:58 am
you might wanna take the next few plays off there champ.
August 6th, 2009 at 11:00 am
Look like MATTRYAN=bigben
August 6th, 2009 at 11:02 am
He throws like a bitch, period. But the outrun part was just exaggerating the fact that he will not be successfull in the NFL running. He’s fast, but he’s not quick enough to get away with that as his only weapon.
And I don’t think anyone needs to be reminded of the NC game… ESPN already told me it was the greatest individual performance ever in college football. And I won money on that game- most exciting bet I’ve won to date.
August 6th, 2009 at 11:07 am
He throws like a bitch, period.
That’s just, like, your opinion, man.
August 6th, 2009 at 11:21 am
no one is at all curious what ellis burks is doing next to vince young?
August 6th, 2009 at 11:53 am
damn. Can’t believe I slept late this morning…
August 6th, 2009 at 1:53 pm
The potential to complete 50% of his passes, throw more picks than TDs, and generally look completely lost as a professional QB. Maybe someday, man… maybe someday.
Vince sucks. Always has, always will. He has made some exciting plays, benefitted from having the most talented team in the nation around him in college, benefitted from the most comically inept defensive performance in recent sports history in the NC game, and was exposed to anyone with functioning eyes, ears, and brain as a complete fraud during his brief tenure as a starting NFL quarterback. Also, he’s an asshat. So, it’s been an entertaining career arc, but as a QB, he’s a level below garbage.
August 6th, 2009 at 3:44 pm
why shouldnt he be confident? hes also the next joey votto
August 6th, 2009 at 4:29 pm
VY till I die.
