Sager Bombs. Not Shots, Either. He Really Screwed Up.
Uncategorized February 13th. 2007, 6:10pmThis should be an instant classic: TNT’s Craig Sager interviews a man. The network claims the man is Chris Webber’s father. Minutes after the ‘interview,’ TNT cuts back to a humiliated Sager, who is interviewing another man … this one is actually Webber’s father. The other one was C-Webb’s AAU coach.
Good stuff from Marv Albert and Steve Kerr after the foul-up.
You make the call: Was this worse than Jim Gray going on air earlier this season with ‘an exclusive,’ saying that he just spoke to Allen Iverson – back when Iverson demanded a trade from the 76ers – when in reality he spoke to someone who was simply pretending to be Iverson?
Live TV, it’s a bitch.

maybe chris has got two dads.

My favorite part was how he didn’t take the clue of the AAU coach saying “Well I’ve known him since he was a little boy…”

I’ve met Webb’s Dad. Real cool with a strong presence. His Mom is the silently beautiful type.
When this was going down, I was thinking (WTF?) maybe this was his grandfather, but I think he’s deceased (not certain).
Yeah, Sager messed up. How could that happen? Some intern is crying somewhere I’m sure.
If you really look at his Dad, he resembles his friend and former Michigan mate, Juwan Howard–down to the midwestern accent.
It’s uncanny. Chris had them both on stage during his charity weekend in Vegas last July and it was a pretty funny moment.
Got a great pic with three of the Fab Five–minus Ray Jackson and Jalen Rose–and Coach Steve Fisher.

Watch out for Detroit. They aren’t getting the respect other teams are getting….bad for the rest of the league.
My crystal ball is out…seeing something….Detroit over Dallas in a game seven epic, as Webb averages 17, 9 and 8 assists in the finals..exorcising two demons in the process.

Sager bombs always make for a bad night

No one is worse than Jim Gray.
I wonder if he asked “Iverson” if he bet on baseball?

I partied with Sager in the Bahamas a couple of years ago at Spring Break. He was walking around double fisting a beer in one hand and a yellow mixed drink in the other. The man can drink. Good guy, too.

Jealous sports bloggers who constantly mock those in TV sports media out of a sense of shame and jealousy and inadequacy, they’re a bitch.

I would be interested in what Barkley had to say about that flub.

You nailed it, Neil. The shame and jealousy I have through my 12-hour days blogging about sports — it’s… it’s just too much. I’m not sure I can go on.
If I kill myself tonight, blame Neil.

Me thinks Neil is actually Craig Sager. Or Jim Gray.

Barkley just poked fun at the whole thing Jarrett. The normal Chuck stuff. “That is not Chris Webber’s Dad!” Nothing special.

The fact that 10 of your 12 hours of daily blogging consist of kvetching about Skip Bayless, Jay Mariotti, Chris Berman, or anyone else higher up than you on the rung of sports media is actually the saddest part of all this.
No, actually, it’s the fact that you took time out of your busy schedule to make a snarky follow-up to a comment from some nobody who reads sports blogs in the first place.

That last bit sounded way more rude than I intended, my bad. Lemme put it this way: sports blogs are unbelieeeevably negative, to the point where I can’t even read some, like firejoemorgan.com. I hate to see it; it gives the entire sports blogosphere a bad name. And makes people like Jay Mariotti almost seem *right* when he picks on the medium as a whole. There’s a reason sports blogs aren’t as widespread and respected as other kinds of blogs.
That’s my $.02, I’m officially done, so you may have the last word if you wish
