Jack Cust Calls the Mitchell Report ‘a Joke’
1-liner, Baseball, Mitchell Report, Steroids August 19th. 2009, 12:40pm
Jack Cust: The portly Oakland slugger – a shorter version of Dave Kingman? – makes a point about the Mitchell Report that should have been made by a player long ago. “To me it was kind of a joke, the whole thing … With all the other stuff going on, with a lot of the guys coming out recently – big-name guys – to me it’s kind of funny they spent all that money on the Mitchell Report and a bunch of hearsay and the guy who made all the money off it happened to work for the Red Sox.” We’ll set the over/under on his fine at 10k. It’s about time someone said something.

Jack Cust is NOT the first one to say this. I can’t quote who exactly said this first, but I know that I have read/heard this one repeated by a player before.

I’ll take the under. I’d be surprised if someone is actually fined for criticizing the Mitchell Report. Bud Selig is no Roger Gooddell or David Stern.

Sounds liek something that a player on the Mitchell Report would say.

Kinda true.. Why pay money to someone that profits from one of the teams? Baseball has handled everything “so bad” yet the sport continues to grow. I mean I don’t watch it but I think the steroid publicity seems to benefit it. It gets more people interested in it, and the diehards watch it anyways even if it bothers them

Unfortunately for the majority of the diehards life expectancy is coming up.

Cust career OBP .372
Kingman career OBP .302
August 19th, 2009 at 1:19 pm
Cust has 80 hrs in his first 8 seasons
Kingman had 204.

Instead of hitting homers, Kingman should’ve tried to walk more.

Doesn’t overcome the OBP difference. Cust is a better hitter.

Jack-O loves to bring this up.

Selig is a genial car dealer from Milwaukee. He is simple. He has no authority. He should never have left Milwaukee.
David Stern (a) would never have let the steroids problem linger (b) would never have dealt with it in so stupid a manner as the Mitchell Report and (c) would have dropped a six-figure fine and or crucified Cust for disparaging the league in such a manner.

Got to this late but was going to write the same thing. How in the hell is Jack Cust on this report, given that he sucks terribly?

I hate the Red Sox…
That said, George Mitchell has more integrity than 99% of MLB employees (including players, front office, and the commish’s office).
Baseball chose to ignore Mitchell’s suggestions about how to treat the report, basically to let it go because sins were committed everywhere and to start fresh.
Instead, everyone (MLB, Media, Union, Fans, etc…) chose to ignore those suggestions and worry about who was on The List. Mitchell didn’t even want to put information suggesting a list into the findings, but was asked to by his employer, Major League Baseball.
This garbage is old. Everyone should leave the past in the past and look to the future, which right now looks bleaker every year because of the sheer ineptitude of everyone involved in baseball.
