Is Mike Vick Really the 2nd Best Backup QB in the NFL?
1-liner, NFL August 21st. 2009, 2:00pmRanking the Backup QBs: Don Banks knew he’d generate some chatter with this one … Jeff Garcia’s first, and Mike Vick’s second. Yes, the same Mike Vick who has been in prison for two years. The same Mike Vick who still has to beat out Kevin Kolb for the No. 2 spot (though at least one Philly media member doesn’t see that as a challenge)? But the further you look down the list, the more weak names you see … Seneca Wallace in Seattle … Todd Collins in Washington … Jon Kitna in Dallas … there are a lot of weak QBs in that Top 10. Hell, by the time you get to the 2nd page, you’ll really begin to wonder why nobody else pounced on Vick. (Then again, last year at this time, Matt Cassel must have been in the low 20s. After tossing the ball around to Randy and Wes, he signed a $63 million deal.) Wonder if Banks will re-think Brodie Croyle based on the recent news that he might be challenging Cassel for the QB job in KC. [SI]

Chaz Batch is far too low on that list.

I was surprised at how good Jeff Garcia’s and Seneca Wallace’s numbers were.

Sorry, but that isn’t news, that is Whitlock. Cassel is starting provided he doesn’t get hurt.

Ha, that’s what I was thinking.

Neither Todd Collins nor Seneca Wallace are “weak names”…they are what they are, a pair of the better backup QBs in the league.

This is putting my foot in my mouth, but shouldn’t VY be rated as one of the better ones?
And if you can tell me where Caleb Haney went to college you will receive a gold star next to you cubbie hole.

Shoneys! YAY!!!

August 21st, 2009 at 2:27 pm
@SC – There’s a Ponderosa in Aurora, IL.
August 21st, 2009 at 2:28 pm
We still have Ponderosa, but Shoney’s has been gone for years. I am also without Ground Round and (inexplicably) Dunkin Donuts.
August 21st, 2009 at 2:28 pm
fuck a ponderosa. Sirloin Stockade is where it’s at!
August 21st, 2009 at 2:29 pm
Ponderosa’s are everywhere in Missouri, at least the east to upper central side of the state.

How about the column John P. Lopez wrote All-Indispensable Team He has Brandon Jacobs as the G-men’s most indispensable player but then you look at Banks’s story has David Carr as number 27 on the backup list. Jacobs’s backup is Bradshaw who looked pretty good against the Panthers. Hands down Eli can’t go down for a long period. I know that goes for a bunch of teams but for a team with new WRs, there is no way they have a great season if Eli were to go down for an extended period.

I honestly didn’t know it was a chain. The only one I’m aware of is in Rolla, MO, used to go there as a child because relatives are from the area. Went back recently, lived up to childhood standards.
August 21st, 2009 at 2:36 pm
i used to go to sirloin stockade when i had drill on the weekends. pretty good stuff.
August 21st, 2009 at 2:37 pm
fuck yes.
when i’d be dieting, i’d always have my weakly, 3,500 calorie cheat meal at GC’s steak night. love that place even tho the food sucks.
August 21st, 2009 at 2:39 pm
jdeeser: Lopez didn’t include QBs in that indispensable players column. It was stupid for other reasons though.
Taguchi: A friend of mine said Dunkin Donuts is opening like 5 stores in the St Louis area soon. I don’t know anything else about it though
August 21st, 2009 at 2:41 pm
Father recently told me the same. I don’t know what the fuck happened. We had them before I went to college and I moved back and they were gone.
August 21st, 2009 at 2:44 pm
dunkin donuts coffee is the shit.
August 21st, 2009 at 2:48 pm
after watching Carr in the preseason game, i can see why his OL hated him in Houston. throw the fucking ball or run.
August 21st, 2009 at 2:51 pm
they don’t hate him for holding onto the ball too long…it’s the mittens. it was always the mittens. except when he didn’t wear the mittens, then it was because he held the ball.

Vick has yet to prove he’s the second best QB on the Eagles roster (and I’d throw Brian Westbrook in as the Emergency QB).
Vick has had exactly one decent year as a QB, and that was when they weren’t asking him to do anymore than “run around and make sh*t happen” (AKA The Buddy Ryan Offense). When asked to make good decisions and precise throws (you know, actual QB stuff), he stank. Why do people seem to keep forgetting/ignoring this?
