7.5
Baseball August 22nd. 2009, 12:30pm
Hahahahahahahaha. This afternoon, Junichi Tazawa tries to prevent the Yankees from taking a 8.5 game lead in the AL East.
And in the other series in the other league with playoff implications, the Giants beat the Rockies 6-3.
* Oh, and Jim Rice said he was misquoted. Whatever.
* Despite those boozy photos, Josh Hamilton will remain on Christian billboards in the Lonestar State.
* Sad: “Oakland Athletics pitcher Justin Duchscherer has been diagnosed with clinical depression and will miss the rest of the 2009 season as he undergoes treatment for the condition, his agent said Friday.”
* Joe Mauer is officially in a massive slump. After all that MVP talk earlier in the week, he’s gone cold – he’s just 2-for-10 in the last three games and his OPS has cratered from 1.101 to 1.088. He is, in fact, human.

Rice makes a great point. Jeter’s dreadlocks have ruined MLB.

Jeter’s hairplugs have ruined MLB.

Just got back from a round of golf where I got paired with two guys that were probably in their late 50s.
Witnessed my first ever hole in one. It’s definitely a double take moment. And quite humbling to shoot an 88 and be made to look foolish by two guys twice my age who shoot fucking 75 and 79.

It was the old fart who nailed the hole in one. Not me. After reading that, it looks confusing.
If it was mine, I would’ve used the Billy Mays button.

SC: That’s cool. I hope the dude at least bought you a cold one.

TST – He’s talking about the guy in the Nick Collison post from Thursday who bashed him. I posted the audio.

never seen a hole in one on a course. i’d imagine the guy went nuts. when hit the flag from 90 yards out with the wedge (on a bounce), i was doing cartwheels

It was his second career ace, but he was still obviously jacked. These two old guys were using wheel carts and walking… I was using a cart. I felt like such a pussy.
They did buy some beers at the turn. I like playing with the old guys. They’re entertaining usually.

bill brasky has hit 36 hole-in-ones and has only played golf twice

tbl: I had 2 in one week when I was 14. (two Fridays in a row playing Jr. Golf). On the first one, I ran all the way up the fairway, because we couldn’t tell for sure. I got up, looked in the hole, and I threw my bag about 15 feet in the air . It landed upside down, and I broke three clubs. My father was gonna kill me, but he relented because of the ace.
That next Friday, I played about 54 holes, trying to make one three Fridays in a row. Not even close. Never have had once since, 30 years later

Does this mean there’s another ‘depressed athletes are pussies’ post in the pipe?

I fear that will be the case, unfortunately. It also means there will be the moronic statement, “he gets paid millions of dollars to play. What has he got to be depressed about?”
Cl;inical depression is a disease, and does not discriminate by paycheck. I hope he can get better.
