ny_nyp0618-thumbPhils 9, Mets 7: The first inning of this game featured Ollie Perez surrendering two three-run bombs to Ryan Howard and Jayson Werth before getting the embarrassing hook after throwing three straight balls to the dangerous Pedro Martinez. The game ended on an Eric Bruntlett unassisted tripe play. Only the Mets, only the Mets. Unfortunately, we left about 43 seconds before this happened. Gary Cohen could not believe the runners were going. His call is after the jump.

atlantabravesphotoday5xqoj-iv3aelCards 5, Padres 2: John Smoltz struck out nine over five scoreless innings, further proving that pitching in the NL is really easy. Pujols hit his 40th. Also, is Smoltz auditioning for something here?

Rockies 4, Giants 2: The Rockies got to Tim Linceum with runs in the sixth and seventh, and Ubaldo Jiménez settled down for the win after giving up an early two-run shot to Renteria. Colorado leads the wildcard by three games. Still in utter shock that there are three teams over .500 in the NL West.

david-priceRangers 4, Rays 0: Scott Feldman gave up just three hits and struck out 11 in seven innings of work. He’s now 13-4 and just yesterday I was saying how Texas has no pitching. David Price certainly pitched well enough to win, but he was much more fun as a reliever, just like Joba.

Braves 7, Marlins 5: Brian McCann had a three-run homer in the first inning on his way to a 5 RBI afternoon. Both Lowe and Nolasco were shaky, but Atlanta’s relieving trio of Kris Medlen, Peter Moylan and Rafael Soriano threw four scoreless innings. Where’s Wes Helms when you need him?

carl-pavanoTwins 10, Royals 3: Carl Pavano got his 11th win. It’s kind of amazing that he’s pretty much made it through a full season. To sum things up for the Royals, Bruce Chen is one of their relievers.
