pmlb2-2312207dtCards 3, Astros 2: Joel Piñeiro has not lost since June 28. This should help you understand why St. Louis has a comfortable nine game lead in the Central. Yesterday he went eight innings and gave up two runs. Just another day at the ballpark for Joel. Matt Holliday has 44 hits in 30 games since joining the Cards. Yes, that’s a Joel Piñeiro collage, which pretty much confirms there’s a collage of you somewhere on the Google.

Dodgers 6, Rockies 1: Order has been temporarily restored in the NL West thanks to a great start from… Randy Wolf? He gave up one run over 7 1/3 and has won four straight. I give up.

milton_looksCubs 9, Nats 4: Milton Bradley had a two-run shot and finished with three RBIs. Here’s Milton on Milton — “I feel love for me. I love me. I look in the mirror and I go out there and play.” If you’re going only by his past two games, he’s totally lovable.

Blue Jays 3, Rays 2: Sorry, but when your only offensive contribution comes from Gabe Kapler, the only thing you’re winning is road beef. This one does hurt though, as the Rays had a 2-1 lead going into the ninth. Following a pinch-hit homer from Rod Barajas, J.P. Howell loaded the bases with three walks and then threw a wild pitch. Game over.

Red Sox 3, White Sox 2: Would’ve been nice if the intense Victor Martinez stayed put in Cleveland, or at least away from Boston. Big Papi hit a walk-off shot for the first time in what feels like forever. Here’s Papi — “Victor, man, he just pushed me for every at-bat. He got in my face and started screaming at me. I liked it. It got me in the mood.”

Giants 4, D-Backs 3: Bengie Molina’s clutch three-run shot in the eighth put San Fran to within three games of the wildcard. This is the last division anyone expected to be fun.

saving_private_ryanPhils 4, Pirates 1; 10 innings: Ryan saved Ryan’s ass. Madson served up a game-tying solo shot in the ninth, but Howard came to the rescue in the 10th with a three-run blast. Philly’s bullpen is shaky.

Orioles 5, Twins 1: The door in the AL Central is wide open, but so far everyone’s pretty bashful. Jeremy Guthrie shut down the Twins for seven innings, however Joe Mauer still managed to go 2-for-4. He’s batting .373. Disgrace.

Angels 4, Tigers 2: Edwin Jackson hadn’t lost in over a month. He was due. The Central is on fire.

Something to Ponder: With Billy Wagner and his beard now in Boston, just how hairy does he plan on getting?

Astounding Mets Stat of the Day: $88 million of the Mets’ $149 million payroll is rotting on the disabled list. Ollie Perez and his knee are the latest to join.

If you don’t scream ‘charge’ at the end of this video, you’re clearly in an awful mood.
