TBL’s Own Little Cultural NCAA Tournament
2007 Culture Tournament March 14th. 2007, 7:00pm
Youre probably wondering what the heck this tiny, unreadable bracket is. Click here to see a normal-size version.
Last year, during the Final Four, the New York Times came out with a political/cultural version of the NCAA tournament. We were so impressed that we clipped the piece and vowed to blog about it at a later date.
Now is that time. We tweaked the idea a bit were not witty enough to name the regionals but the overall flavor is culture, sports, politics, and current events. The NYT broke split up their sectionals into politics and culture and the like, but we mixed them all together because a first round matchup between 3rd seeded Gay Marriage and 14th seeded Tim Hardaway is too rich to pass up.
We thought the Times assigning God as a No. 2 seed was awesome irony (and you thought UCLA felt snubbed?), so we kept that. A few featured matchups:
8 Barry Obama vs. 9 Hillary Clinton
6 ESPN vs. 11 Jason Whitlock
8 Kevin Durant vs. 9 Greg Oden
4 Making it Rain vs. 13 Pacman Jones
Many, many thanks to the commenter known as G-Man’ for his amazing work on all the art. Further proof that there are some good people trolling around the net – can you believe he turned down our offer of $72.39 (grand total of cash weve made off this site through google adsense)?
Feel free to disagree with our No. 1 seeds:
Tom Bradys Out of Wedlock baby (overall top seed)
Antonella Barba
Gilbert Arenas
Jessica Biels ass
We didnt do a last four out but they probably would have been Al Gore, Syracuse, Bridget Moynahan, and Dick Vitale. Enjoy!

Looking ahead, Gay Marriage has an interesting road to the Elite Eight. Assuming they get past Tim Hardaway, they’d face potential matchups against Peyton Manning (OH NO YOU DIDN’T!) and John Rocker.

That is assuming, of course, that John Rocker gets past God.

potential sweet 16 matchups:
God vs Gay Marriage
SA’s acting career vs HRs lawsuit
Brady’s Baby vs Bald Britney
but real clash is regional final of Jessica beil’s ass vs Oprah

Nice bracket, TBL. I don’t know all the particulars but I’m calling Gay Marriage in the Final Four right now. Tim HARDaGay loses against God first round. FABULOUS!

My big upsets:
HPV over Harold Reynolds
Winthrop over Friday Night Lights
Boise State over Manning, then destroying Gay Marriage and God on the way to the Final 4
Topless Mena over Britney\
Bruce Pearl over everything
Final 4: Boise State, The Mavs, Bruce Pearl, and Antonella Barba

this thing made me realize how out of date your header is. kournikova, kobe in a No. 8 jersey, jeff gordon, and lance armstrong. two of the four are retired, one’s got a new uniform, and the other, well, isn’t as good at driving a car anymore.

An 11 seed?!?!?! How can I be on the 11 line? That means I was one of the last four in!!!! I deserved an 8 seed.
