Adam Carolla Says Bill Simmons Has Been Banned From Adam Carolla Podcasts, Bill Simmons Says Otherwise
1-liner, Bill Simmons September 3rd. 2009, 2:25pmBill Simmons: ESPN’s Bill Simmons has been banned from appearing on Adam Carolla podcasts, this according to Adam Carolla. Bill Simmons, however, told us via email that it is not true (and he didn’t even address us as “Young Jason!”). Nevertheless, an avid listener of Carolla podcasts pointed out to us that at the 42-minute mark here, Carolla goes on a rant about how Simmons and a guy named Dave Dameshek were recently “banned from doing this show [by] their bosses.” Carolla went on to surmise that the last podcast with Simmons was too “jizz-laden.” Carolla then bashed ESPN, calling the guys who made this decision “retards.” Based on the four minutes we listened to, Carolla really enjoys using the word “retard.” We can’t be the only person to find him terribly unfunny. And yes, we had to google Dave Dameshek. Apparently, he’s a big deal on the LA talk radio scene. [Adam Carolla]

Carolla has his days. He’s very hit or miss, much like Jimmy Fallon.
Oh wait, Fallon’s never funny.
Point still stands on Carolla

This discussion has taken place like a dozen times on here. And Corolla’s podcasts are hilarious. Sometimes the guests are a bit crappy, but the one from last week or the week before with Chris Hardwick was funny as fuck.

It must be a east coast – west coast thing. I can’t stand Stern at all. But I think Carolla is hilarious.

I like Carolla and listen to his podcasts, but I have my limits with him where I can’t take the ranting and whining (i.e.–his signature schtick).
I liked the Simmons ones and would not doubt that Simmons would be prohibited from appearing on them, but not necessarily because specifically because it’s Carolla and the content was off-color, but because ESPN doesn’t want their talent going on anything that they didn’t originate, make money off of, or approve.

I enjoy his podcasts as well. The problem is that Corolla’s fastball is the 15 minute free-form rant, which doesn’t really translate well anywhere except a podcast.

We can’t be the only person to find him terribly unfunny
You aren’t. If the word retard is your standard goto diss, then you are a Fail.
Never heard of the Dameshek.
September 3rd, 2009 at 2:34 pm
lefty – we’ve had the carolla discussion, or the dameshek one? i have never seen the latter
Al – where are you located?
September 3rd, 2009 at 2:35 pm
Agreed. They are very entertaining. Not always roll around on the floor funny, but always almost better than anything else on the radio, satellite or otherwise. The guy does have a relatively interesting opinion on just about everything. DellaBate was also on the one referred to by Younglefty. He also did one recently with Jerry O’Connell that was very amusing.

If I remember correctly, I think they had a 10 minute conversation about whether they would rather have their daughter be a standard porn star or do like the jizz fetish porn and have buckets of fake stuff dumped on them. So, I’m not surprised ESPN might have been troubled.
September 3rd, 2009 at 2:35 pm
Dameshek was on a bunch of early simmons podcast. I have no clue who he is either, but he appears to be a big deal on espn’s podcast page

/prepares Mike Francesa post that no one cares about

Heavy on college football indeed.
September 3rd, 2009 at 2:37 pm
I find Carolla hilarious at times. The old Loveline episodes with him and DR. Drew are must listens. I listen to the Carolla podcast every day. Dude entertains me. The one with Mr. Skin was fantastic.

@TBL
Dameshek – Comedy Writer for Kimmel -> Co-hosted first year of Corolla’s Radio Show -> had afternoon show for ESPN in LA which was good but had low ratings -> still under contract with ESPN, doing podcasts and occasional stuff for Page 2.
September 3rd, 2009 at 2:38 pm
Carolla > The stuff you listen to
September 3rd, 2009 at 2:38 pm
@TBL: Dameshek. Can be found here.
September 3rd, 2009 at 2:39 pm
Whenever you are ready to somali pirate one of these posts, I’m game.
September 3rd, 2009 at 2:39 pm
I wish Simmons would write me emails
September 3rd, 2009 at 2:39 pm
this IS retarded, Artie was on Simmons’ podcast this week and they talked about the suckingcock.com joke for like 10 min. but since all you heard was su——–.com its ok.
September 3rd, 2009 at 2:41 pm
Vote for Carolla here.
September 3rd, 2009 at 2:42 pm
big thumbs up on the carolla podcasts, especially his new car casts. when he has outside the box guests, they’re usually pretty good, such as the italian-asian mobster/porn director, the developer of some online game, and a guy who is in product development.

Corolla > Stern
WC>EC
September 3rd, 2009 at 2:44 pm
TBL – I’m in Portland
September 3rd, 2009 at 2:46 pm
This made me laugh.
September 3rd, 2009 at 2:47 pm
Yeah get it on, gotta get it on, no choice but to get it on.
Corolla > Stern, and I’m an east coast guy.
September 3rd, 2009 at 2:48 pm
stern isnt funny.
/O&A pest
September 3rd, 2009 at 2:49 pm
I’m a Carolla fan (since the Loveline days) and also listened to his morning show the past few years until it was canceled. I’ve also become a Simmons fan of late. I wonder if Carolla has been also been banned from doing Simmon’s BS Report?
September 3rd, 2009 at 2:53 pm
Carolla is a fucking genius. I wish he had taken over for Jackie Martling when Howard offered him the job, instead we got got stuck with the unfunny hack otherwise known as artie lange…i listen to all the carolla podcasts but the funniest one of all may be when he interviewed “Jack” from Jack in The Box.
September 3rd, 2009 at 2:54 pm
none of the shock jocks are funny o&a,stern, bubba the love sponge and mancow. the we are so edgy because we say fuck and fart on the radio and ask our guests about their sex lives bit is outdated but unfortunately it has invaded almost every radio show. another reason why i never listen to the radio.
September 3rd, 2009 at 2:55 pm
Never heard Carolla (besides the man show) until his podcast, I love it. Still think Stern is better though. If Stern leaves Sirius when his contract is up Carolla should get his spot.
September 3rd, 2009 at 2:55 pm
If he wasn’t before, he certainly is now.
@younglefty – good to see you are a fan. When I lived in the Midwest, hardly anyone had heard of Carolla and Loveline (except for the MTV show, which was completely watered down).
September 3rd, 2009 at 2:58 pm
sponge – if Stern leaves XM/Sirius, I wonder if the company survives. Sure, they get out from under his massive contract, but the subscriber base will probably flee.
September 3rd, 2009 at 2:58 pm
Am I smelling new blood around here?
September 3rd, 2009 at 2:59 pm
People look at my like I’m crazy because I listen to his podcast on the Metro to and from work, and I can’t stop from laughing out loud at some points. Oddly enough, I was clued into his podcasts from when he was a guest on Simmons’ podcast in the early days of that thing.
September 3rd, 2009 at 3:00 pm
I agree, Carolla uncensored would be terrific radio though. I went to click on the link to hear the rant and it was the same podcast I’m listening to right now. Freaky Deaky.
September 3rd, 2009 at 3:02 pm
TBL – something is telling me that I am supposed to see the movie Extract. I have no idea how I got that in my head.
September 3rd, 2009 at 3:03 pm
i agree, that shit was hilarious
September 3rd, 2009 at 3:05 pm
I’ve been thinking about that a lot lately too. Any idea when it comes out?
September 3rd, 2009 at 3:05 pm
Anytime Carolla pitches “Pediph Isle” as a reality show makes for a great day.
September 3rd, 2009 at 3:05 pm
i was reading somewhere that his long term impact on subscriptions has been pretty exaggerated. the number of people that only have siriusXM because of him probably isnt as high as you would think.
when i got sirius it was because of him, but i find myself now listening to more of the music and or carolla or bill simmons podcasts
September 3rd, 2009 at 3:11 pm
He pitched it as a movie on Simmons’ podcast.
September 3rd, 2009 at 3:13 pm
Maybe this Friday? Just a guess
September 3rd, 2009 at 3:15 pm
Mmonmast – good point on Stern. But I think XM/Sirius is so close to the edge that I could still have an affect. They need to find a way to allow users to customize a channel or two (similar to Pandora). I know, easier said than done…
And Pediph Isle is a riot. Although my wife just shook her head and walked out of the room when I tried to explain it to her.
September 3rd, 2009 at 3:16 pm
The Carolla podcasts are hilarious, for the most part. Everyone once in a while guest sucks ass, but that’s par for the course. The Dameshek podcasts, more often than not, are actually pretty solid as well.
September 3rd, 2009 at 3:20 pm
Love the jerk of the week segment, if for nothing more than the theme song.
/probably said the same thing in the thread I linked above
September 3rd, 2009 at 3:20 pm
Carolla is great. Funniest of that crew, but with the least amount of social skills.
September 3rd, 2009 at 3:23 pm
@lefty
Haven’t listened to Dameshek in awhile, but does he still do Jerk List/Creep of the Week? I thought it got banned, like Just Shut Up on Mike & Mike?
September 3rd, 2009 at 3:25 pm
Not sure. I haven’t listened in a while either. I don’t listen to daily podcasts too much (other than Carolla’s), so he worked his way out of my rotation. If they killed that bit, that’s a shame. They should still use the theme song though.
September 3rd, 2009 at 3:27 pm
that rant was fantastic.
September 3rd, 2009 at 3:27 pm
Re: Extract, I listened to that Terry Gross NPR interview with Jason Bateman last week–it seemed like they spent half the interview talking about his half a season on Little House on the Prairie. She didn’t even ask him if he f***ed Sandy Duncan in the eyehole.
September 3rd, 2009 at 3:36 pm
Thanks broseph – was supposed to be paying attention to a conference call when I erupted in laughter.
That interview was brutal. Even the questions about the movie revolved around “how was it working with the creator of Beavis & Butthead?”
September 3rd, 2009 at 3:58 pm
i’m so used to satellite radio there’s no way I’m going back to terrestrial. it came with my car, so it’s just normal to have it in there. i haven’t listened to stern in years though.
September 3rd, 2009 at 4:30 pm
Love the Carolla podcast and Carcast. I can count on him to give me 30-60 minutes of laughter at least three times a week. The other three shows tend to be amusing and occasionally they’re boring, but for the most part it’s great entertainment.
September 3rd, 2009 at 5:05 pm
Anthony Cumia > Stern > Carolla
I do find all three funny, so I’m not shitting on the other two. Anthony combines his quick wit with very good impressions, he’s also banging an 18 year old (he’s 48).
