John Calipari Learns Politics and Basketball Don’t Mix
College Basketball, Politics September 11th. 2009, 3:30pm
Kentucky coach John Calipari recently sent Barack Obama a Kentucky jersey with the President’s name on the back. Then, he wanted to let the world know, so he posted a photo of it on his website, and then did the same on Facebook. Gotta spread the word! His Facebook post was met with bile and contempt from readers, and he quickly scrubbed it off the web and profusely apologized. Welcome to the party, Cal! Stick to skirting the rules and staying one step ahead of the NCAA, John. [Courier-Journal, Lexington Herald]

One thing we are all learning from Obama being the president is that America is racist as fuck.
September 11th, 2009 at 3:35 pm
He’s been pissing me off all day, talking about his fucking book sales and how he’s in NY, but no mention of 9/11.
September 11th, 2009 at 3:37 pm
I dont give a crap if he gave Obama a jersey or not, who cares?
September 11th, 2009 at 3:38 pm
yeah i know, i mean who elects a guy president just because he is black?
September 11th, 2009 at 3:39 pm
How dare you criticize a wartime president? Don’t you scumbags have respect for the office of the president if not the person?

+1, but this isn’t the place to bring up race. ONE BOTH SIDES.

If that fucking Taylor Made Ad pops up on my screen one more time I’m going to lose my shit. Fuck.
September 11th, 2009 at 3:44 pm
I bet people went to the polls saying Im not gonna vote for that guy because hes black. Everything he does creates protest! Why? because hes black.
This is my Favorite Clip form the campaign.

Shouldn’t Cal know this is what would happen? He is coaching at Kentucky, not Stanford. People in Kentucky are not Obama fans. For the love of god they voted Mitch McConnel into office more than one time.
September 11th, 2009 at 3:46 pm
Oh please, Tampa.
Yes, everyone hates Obama because he’s black. Nothing to do with his policies, The way he’s carried himself so far, nothing to do with crazies on both side of the political spectrum. It’s only, ONLY because he’s black. That’s why he was elected, to show just how much us white people hate blacks.
September 11th, 2009 at 3:46 pm
fixed.
September 11th, 2009 at 3:48 pm
Also, when you’re in KY doing anything for a democrat (outside of Louisville and Lexington) is death. So just because some dumb hillbilly rednecks think that God hates Obama because of some convoluted reasoning doesn’t mean the entire country hates Obama.
I mean Christ I work at a right wing station and I know better.

back after a nearly 3 hr run to the airport in horrendous weather. good times. what’d i miss?
September 11th, 2009 at 3:49 pm
Same folks that didn’t like Tubby — but not because he was black.
September 11th, 2009 at 3:49 pm
And just as many people only voted for Obama b/c he was black, “I’m going to vote, and tell my kids some day, I voted for the first black president.” It goes both ways. These type of people are like sheep, and shouldn’t be voting…period.
September 11th, 2009 at 3:49 pm
Imagine the outrage in Kentucky if Bush asked for a jersey and he didn’t give give him one.
/Fox News Developing Story’d
Kentucky fans are idiots. I’m guessing having Obama in a jersey would create a positive impression for many of the African Americans he recruits. I guess they’re supposed to play for them but keep their mouths shut.

@spencer, The R9 is crazy expensive. If I didn’t get a great deal on the 909D3 I wouldn’t have been able to afford that.

I stand corrected, Shatner.

Yep sparty thats what I said. Every white person in America is racist. FALSE! Im saying people are showing their true colors.Jack Wilson Blow up(Never happened before). People protesting his speech to kids. Im saying its visible.
September 11th, 2009 at 3:54 pm
I don’t hate Obama because I am racist I just hate him because he only thinks in the now and can’t see the future ramifcations of all of this spending. The time to add another trillion a year to the budget is not right now, healthcare reform does not need to take place at this moment and be passed as quick as possible without anyone actually reading the bill like the last stimulus.
The only reason I hate having a black president is because everyone says you are a racist if you stand up against him.

what comments do i need to read for the racist/political junk?
September 11th, 2009 at 3:55 pm
yea, it’s pricey, but DAMN it’s tempting. you hit one yet? i thought the original r7’s were cannons…damn the r9 is incredible.
i saw you said you had a 909 earlier this week with a voodoo…how do you like it? ive only hit a used one with a matrix.
September 11th, 2009 at 3:55 pm
@Wally – I’ve been giving his facebook page shit all day because he’s in ny doing a book signing and wants everyone to know about how it’s selling and what a nice hotel he’s in. Nothing about it being 9/11. I really dont care if he sent a jersey to Obama, Pat Robertson’s family, i dont care.

September 11th, 2009 at 3:57 pm
Im with you on this. Something needs to happen though.
September 11th, 2009 at 3:58 pm
Tampa – I was completely against the whole “outrage” because it didn’t make sense. People thought that he was going to go on a political tear to our kids in his speech, even AFTER it was published. Presidents had done the speeches before him and no one cared. Well, maybe Bush…
I’m just tired of people I know who are moderates being labeled racist everytime they don’t agree with Obama (which if you read the Herald Leader, they’d have you believe it, too)
September 11th, 2009 at 3:58 pm
Jack Wilson Blow up(Never happened before).
It may be rare for a member of Congress to heckle the President in the chamber, but there’s been fistfights, cane beatings, and spitting contests have all occured on the floor of either the House or the Senate in this nation’s proud political history.
September 11th, 2009 at 3:59 pm
by the way more stuff on the Kentucky program should be out next week, won’t implicate Cal unfortunately, but may result in them reporting some infractions.

Which is, there aren’t many fans of SEC schools who’d like the idea of sending Obama-drama a jersey. You can take from that what you will.

September 11th, 2009 at 4:00 pm
@spencer – I’ve hit the R9. It’s fucking sweet. Taylor Made does come out with some expensive ass woods about every month it seems, but they know their shit when making woods.
The 909D3 is nice. I get a low traj, but not much spin. That Voodoo shaft is badass though. I’m around 108-112 with my swing speed and i can’t feel the thing give one mm.
September 11th, 2009 at 4:01 pm
Shit, at least Obama’s trying, albeit blindly trying to pass a bill.
I still haven’t seen any of that stimulus money going towards KY’s infrastructure, except on Interstate 64
September 11th, 2009 at 4:01 pm
I love how him and the guy he is running against have raised almost a million combined in campaign funds the last two days. Sadly outbursts might become a regular occurance when they see it as a way to cheap press.

and you just broad stroked that as all racist. wilson was an idiot, but the entire democratic party booed Bush during a State of the Union address.
September 11th, 2009 at 4:04 pm
If that’s so, why the hell happened to Alan Keyes!
September 11th, 2009 at 4:04 pm

September 11th, 2009 at 4:04 pm
I don’t hear that. I’m not denying you do. But what I hear is a bunch of right-wing extremists (NOT ALL REPUBLICANS) who call called anyone who dared criticize W. “nut-job unamerican unpatriotic conspiracy theorists” now refusing to let Obama talk to their kids or deifying politicians who call him a liar while addressing Congress.
September 11th, 2009 at 4:05 pm
Wasn’t Alan Keyes a black republican?
September 11th, 2009 at 4:07 pm

September 11th, 2009 at 4:08 pm
yeah instead of putting stimulus money towards hiring more prison guards(the prisons in illinois and im sure every where else are horribly understaffed) they are giving money to companies who already are fully staffed to fix roads or setting up some stupid program. fuck that put the money into places that create jobs. the taxes that people pay out of their new paychecks and the stuff they buy with their money will help end the recession
September 11th, 2009 at 4:09 pm
Keyes left the party in 2008.
September 11th, 2009 at 4:10 pm
Yeah, so. If the only reason people voted for Obama was that he’s black, why couldn’t we have had Alan or Jessie or Will Smith.
September 11th, 2009 at 4:10 pm
Bush is a fucking retard though.
September 11th, 2009 at 4:10 pm
You give people money now and you know what will happen, mrejr? They save it, because the economy is still shit. They’re not spending anything right now, just ask any truck driver.
September 11th, 2009 at 4:10 pm
legalize drugs and then you won’t have non-violent drug offenders in jails. then tax drug sales and reap the double rewards.
September 11th, 2009 at 4:10 pm
Democrats said the exact same thing as republicans when the first George Bush gave a similar speech, think it was in ‘91.
September 11th, 2009 at 4:11 pm
If you listen to the survey conductors, the recession’s already over. Nevermind unemployment will still be buggered for at least a year, probably two. I might move to Makanda, Illinois and become one of those forest people living in a cabin among the trees with no electricity or running water, just smoking home-grown marijuana all day.
September 11th, 2009 at 4:11 pm

great answer, bo. we know racism is an issue in this country, but that’s not what is going on in our capital. it is still just a left and right fight.

Alan ran as Republican in 1992, 1996 and 2000.
and 2004, the republicans moved him to Illinois to battle Obama for the vacant Senate seat.
September 11th, 2009 at 4:16 pm
I’m saying, bsanders, he had no shot as a republican candidate. Shit, Colin Powell, for all the white people that the news surveyed who claimed would vote for him, would’ve had no real chance.
Obama ran the best campaign in history. Jesus would’ve won, but the vote total would’ve been 50.1% to 49.9%

2nd best…Bush and Rove in ‘00 and ‘04 wrote Obama’s gameplan. Of course, Bush and Rove didn’t have the Democratic party as an anchor around their necks, but still, gotta give the nod to the originators.
Oh, and if you think the cries of racism are bad now, wait until the public gets a hold of the current trends in Obama’s approval ratings. Black: >90%, Hispanic ~85-90, White 45 and falling.
September 11th, 2009 at 4:41 pm
I dont think Bush in 04 was that great a campaign. He ran against a block of wood. Bush in 2000 was a feat in itself that he beat McCain, who REALLY should have been the candidate except the Republicans wanted to get back to their “base” and McCain was too moderate.
September 11th, 2009 at 4:42 pm
I approve of this message.
September 11th, 2009 at 4:43 pm
…and Rove used that ol’ “McCain has a black baby” trick in South Carolina
September 11th, 2009 at 4:45 pm
Bush’s 04 campaign was okay, but his 00 campaign will be studies for a long time. Of course he lost, but the Supreme Court disagreed, but he and his crew were always running for re-election. His staff was very disciplined in that regard. Too bad they were all batshit crazy.
September 11th, 2009 at 4:45 pm
That f’n slander is the reason why I hate and can’t respect Rove as a person, but God Damn can he work a campaign.
September 11th, 2009 at 4:46 pm
in 04 Bush didn’t have to DO anything. Kerry had no chance, especially with that “I voted for the bill before I voted against it” gaffe. Also, he was still riding the 9/11 train.
September 11th, 2009 at 4:47 pm
Come on over to the left coast, we are getting pretty damn close.
September 11th, 2009 at 4:47 pm
Can I crash on your couch?
September 11th, 2009 at 4:50 pm
Very true. What Rove and Co. did to McCain was the most classless thing I’ve seen in Presidential politics. Of course the family values people still love them both…but that’s because they are (mostly) idiots.
September 11th, 2009 at 4:52 pm
and 8 years later Rove was gushing about how great it was that the McCain family adopted this (darker skinned) child from Bangladesh. He is a f’n prick.
Bush should’ve crushed Gore in 2000 and he barely won, didnt even get the popular vote. I dont see that as a great campaign. Not as bad as Rudy 08, but then what is
September 11th, 2009 at 4:52 pm
It didn’t matter who the Dem’s nominated in ‘04, Bush won it when he pushed the prescription drug plan through congress. It’s pretty hilarious that Bush accomplished more in terms of health care reform than Obama will this term. Of course, Obama is only slightly to the left of Bush, so maybe that’s not that unexpected.
September 11th, 2009 at 4:55 pm
say what? You mean a guy that had a tremendous battle in the primaries should’ve crushed the vice president of an extremely popular two-term president who effectively ran unopposed for the nomination? Gore should’ve won, handily, especially with the restrictions of the electoral college. Now if it’d been popular vote, yes, you’re right, Bush would’ve crushed him.
September 11th, 2009 at 4:56 pm
Truer words have never been spoken.

September 11th, 2009 at 5:00 pm
say what? You mean a guy that had a tremendous battle in the primaries should’ve crushed the vice president of an extremely popular two-term president who had been impeached and lied under oath and who many said didnt have “family values” for who effectively ran unopposed for the nomination? Gore should’ve won, handily, especially with the restrictions of the electoral college. Now if it’d been popular vote, yes, you’re right, Bush would’ve crushed him.
September 11th, 2009 at 5:01 pm
Hell yeah.
September 11th, 2009 at 5:03 pm
If Obama could suit up for UK and hid a jump shot…it wouldn’t be a problem
September 11th, 2009 at 5:11 pm
Did’t Gore win the popular vote?
September 11th, 2009 at 5:12 pm
Ninobrown: how was the economy in ‘00? Was it great, or the greatest? Hell, does anyone remember how awesome 2000 was? It was so awesome, people were bitching about $1.30/gallon gas prices. Gore should’ve won that election, period. Bush ran a great campaign, raised a tremendous amount of money, made great strategic decisions…but all in all, Gore still should’ve won.
September 11th, 2009 at 5:21 pm
Funny thing, popular vote isn’t important, therefore it’s ignored. You focus your money on the “swing states” in get out the vote efforts. That blunted Bush’s money advantage. If it was a popular vote election, suddenly both candidates need to spend shittons of money everywhere. Not only would Bush be able to leverage his money advantage more fully, but he also had a better chance to pick up vote due to the current rural/urban divide.
I.E. suddenly California is in play for Bush, and he would’ve gained massive votes there. Same with New York and the rest of the Northeast. The states that would come into play for Gore would be the South and the midwest…rural states where you have to spend more money per vote in get out the vote efforts.
Thus, if the popular vote was in effect instead of the electoral college, I’m fairly certain Bush would’ve won by ~3-5% points. Moot point, but still, I do get irritated whenever I hear someone talk about Gore winning the popular vote. That’s like if a losing baseball team complaining that they had more hits and should’ve won, when then winning team got walks and hit a couple of HR’s.
September 11th, 2009 at 5:31 pm
I’m just tired of me who is moderate being labeled racist by clown and Tampa everytime I don’t agree with Obama.
/pretty much how it is
September 11th, 2009 at 5:35 pm
Ok I see the theory behind the statement now. Intersting thought. I agree that hearing people whine about Gore getting the popular vote, but not winning is very irritating. It’s not like the rules were just invented.

My dad: I lost my job to NAFTA
Me: don’t you have a much better job, with a higher salary and more benefits?
My dad:…
Job outsourcing is good for the economy. The local congressman brags about how he’ll protect NC jobs because he lost his textile job after NAFTA, so he had to become a teacher. My question is, do you really want your sons/daughters working in a textile mill? I certainly don’t, there are better things to aspire to.
September 11th, 2009 at 5:56 pm
the world needs ditch diggers too. and if my sons or daughters arent smart enough or inclined to go be something other than a textile mill employee than more power to them. some people could pay their way through college with a textile company job because i know you’re gonna find this hard to believe but not everyone’s mommy and daddy can afford to send their kids through college and just give them a spare credit card. and some people dont aspire to be more than a a person who works at a textile mill thats why they have textile mills. and if you really believe that jobs leaving america is a good thing then go back to duke or whatever college you went to and demand a refund because you’re an idiot.

Sorry if stating a fact pissed in your cornflakes, but losing shit jobs to Mexico certainly isn’t something to be against.
September 11th, 2009 at 6:27 pm
you’re not pissing in my cornflakes junior but you are obviously someone who has never had to go without anything or struggle. i know you think everyone should be rich and should be doctors or lawyers or actors but it just isnt possible. some people rely on those ’shit jobs’ . is that too hard for you’re obviously big brain to comprehend?
September 11th, 2009 at 7:08 pm
Did you miss the part about my dad losing his job because of NAFTA? We almost lost our house growing up because of it. Guess what, he got retrained, got a better job, and is now more than comfortably well off. You act like it’s a zero-sum game, which it’s not. Trade benefits both sides, and the freer the better. The number of American jobs increased during the NAFTA era, but all people whine about is “dem mehicans are stealin our jobs.” Yeah, there are individual sob stories, but overall NAFTA has been a huge boon for the American public. Protectionism is stupid, and in the end, pointless.
September 11th, 2009 at 7:24 pm
what about the people who dont have the ability to get retrained for a better job? i like how you think because it worked out for you it automatically worked out for everyone else.
